Hi all,
I am new to this website and new to Honda. I am a britbiker and have already restored a couple of BSA's. I always wanted to build a caferacer, but it was very difficult to find a britbike to turn into a caferacer, the prices of these bikes are here very high. So I decided to go for a Honda CB750. After a couple of months searching I found a very good deal: a complete F2 from 1978, a complete spare engine, 6 extra carbs, 4 extra wheels... for the price of 600$. The target is to build a Honda CB750 Manxstyle caferacer.

I have completely stripped the engine cleaned all the muck off it and assessed what is worn out and what can be reused. For an F2 the problem usually seems to be the valves, cam, and rockers, fortunately mine are reusable, (also the parts of the spare engine are reusable)  and the bottom end of the engine is really good. The cilinders are a bit rusty, and the rings worn.
The progress so far is:
-engine degreased, blasted
-replaced all seals, orings
-balanced the crank
-new shells for crankcase
-after a chat with Voxonda all concenring camchain and primary chain is replaced
-new front sprocket
-new manx gastank from TABaker
-new wideline manx seat from WBO-racing
-new bearings for the wheels
-comstars are already painted and are now waiting for new Bridgestones
-taper roller bearings for steering
-new piston & seal kit for rearbrake
-double piston front brakes from a honda cb750 1980 rc04
-velocity stacks from Steel Dragon
-I have ordered the famous framekit and a 'dresda' swingarm from Voxonda
-replaced the complete transmission with these from the spare engine

The lower engine is now ready, the top is now going away for a complete checkup: valves, guides, pistons... Also the cilinder+head of the spare engine is going away for a checkup. Than we can decide what parts are still reuasble or if I have to go for a re-bore.

The first few pics had me depressed.....Alot of scrubbing, blasting and sanding....then the pics started looking better, then GREAT! :D

These Honda's are more rewarding than the British stuff you are used to.....parts are much cheaper, and we also have a fanatical cult following.

I hope this build convinces you to stick around here isntead of only at any of the Triton/Norvin sites where Lucas electrics is praised! ::)

Good work there Dakota, i love the F2 model and after restoring my first F2 i plan to cafe racer my second one,
I will be watching your posts as you seem to be turning out some real quality work, and i hope to get some ideas from yours, well done

Very nice work!! I like the Manx tank, looks like it still has the signature "F" length but narrower end. I'll be checking back often, again nice job!

Can you please share a bit more about the tank and the dealings with TABaker?  What was the cost?  Is the tank a direct fit on the 78F frame using stock mounting points/hardware? Petcock? Pics of the underside? Aprox fuel capacity? Thanks a bunch!

Excellent build! I am looking into a Manx seat as well, for my CB750 F1. How does it fit the frame? Just right? I thought I needed the slimline version, but obviously the wideline is the way to go. Can you confirm?

Hi,
I had to wait 7 weeks before I had the tank, about 550$, The tank has the same front mountings points as the standard tank, at the rear there is knob for a small strap.
