I am sure it would only be if he did not disable the oiler.  Yanno, the oil seeping through the holes and cleaning it more often.  I have seen them with much larger holes and not even there.

I have to say I'm curious about this "mystery oil" that seeps through the holes of sprocket covers as they are not actually in anyway attached to any "wet" part of the engine or in any way designed to hold back liquids. Their only sole purpose is to "cover the sprocket" hence the name. Other than dirt and "goo", which shouldn't be any issue as I will not be tearing around old salvage yards and off road courses; what precisely will incur the wrath of this oily enigma?

Seat's Done! Its EXACTLY what I  was going for, Didn't want to do a cafe or a bobber (maybe next=time)  ...just wanted something nostalgic looking, but original and unique that will be comfortable riding. Think Vintage/Custom.

Added Bonus: I get to keep the functionality of the stock hinges and lock because its on the stock seat pan.

Here its is:

My ass can't wait. lol

Got the Parts back from powder coat today too.

The Frame and rims will have to wait as a large wad of dough went towards much needed parts from Cycle X...
Fork tubes, seals, progressive springs, handlebars, gaskets etc...and there's still stuff I missed (forgot to get).

anyway...to the Black Bits!

Yes...I had the engine mounts painted RED not PINK...I have a crappy camera phone! They are definitely red.  :P

In the center of that sprocket is the oiler for the chain.  Prolly how a lot of that gunk got in there that you cleaned out.

In case you think I am crazy, attached is a part of the manual.

Wait...so you can disable it? Is that something you would WANT to do though? Doesn't it serve an express purpose? Or do you just trust your gut to know when it needs oil?

I saw a thread where someone put a little piece of rubber in there and it was enough. Then I think you oil your chain every 500 or 1000 miles. Not sure exactly but the thread is out there somewhere.

Disable the chain oiler...
http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=10817.msg101695#msg101695
if you're gonna run a modern o-ring etc. type chain you won't need it, it really over oil's the chain and makes a big mess.  If you're gonna run an old school non-o-ring chain I would consider using it.
If it works good, it looks good...

Well, its official. I will be plugging up that "OIL THING". Thanks all for the info and support as always!

Now... I am no where near done. i just wanted to mock up the covers to see what they'd look like w/ the new bolts and the Sprocket cover. It was also to see how I liked the color I chose for the sprocket cover w/ the Black..since I'll be painting the whole engine that way. Overall...I have to say I'm quite please thus far. Once again, I apologize for the quality of the pics. Phone camera, bad lighting and to much caffeine:

This one wasn't too bad.

Got the Anti-Seize and applied it w/ my girlfriend's old makeup brush..worked like a charm:

Put the shocks together w/ the new seals, Dust-boots and progressive springs from Cycle-X...Just need the right oil.

Finished the last coat of engine paint:

Here's a couple of shots from when I cracked the top open to discover...OH MY GOD!!!
Just kidding..it was actually in pretty good shape (so far) I'll no more the further in I go as I replace all the gaskets.

Well, the darn seat's been stuck in Oklahoma since Wednesday due to the recent snow storms...Ugh..Snow storms in Texas!?! Who knew? So I've continued to apply my Anti-seize to all of my bolts and I figured it was time to start back on the gas tank. I went ahead and wet sanded it and added my pinstripes and I've begun the next round of clear coating.

Here's a pic!
