I got mine off ebbay. I bought an original with dings then painted silver to give it a real "survivor" look.

Franken,
Do you have an O.E. Air filter assembly for it ? They look nice.I use to try to race a guy that weighed 15 less than I did in 9th grade..,he had the S90 & I had a CT90 & w/ both of us laying flat he would easily walk away from me and top out at over 60 mph.
75' CB400F/'bunch o' parts' & 81' CB125S modded to a 'CB200S'
I love the small ones too !
Do your BEST...nobody can take that away from you.

OK. I am going nuts with this. It starts with the first kick every time but.....ug. I suck at fine tuning and cant find what I am overlooking.
I started it up this afternoon and it ran full throttle with choke off, turn choke on and idle is smooth. I figured there must be an air leak somplace so took it all apart and cleaned then sealed all mating surfaces carb-tube-head.

Started again and still full throttle. I figured the new throttle cable must be the wrong length or somthing so I remove the little brass adjuster fron the top of the carb (it threads out of top of carb while holding cable)

3rd try and it starts with a bit more control but still.....weird? I have the air screw about 1 1/2 turns out. Idle screw I have been just turning like I am trying to get the shower hotter. WTF!!

OK, so tell me how to get back to zero and what to slowly do to fine tune this fine little baby so I can go tear it up on this fine American Holiday weekend.

Thanks for your service.

Smooth operation at the throttle grip?  Does it feel like it's sticking?

Not sticking but does feel slack. It doesnt snap back, and there is a little play in the twist. The 90 has that funky cable slide pull deal in the bars so I really just thought that it...is what it is. The cable moves free, not sticking.

I also noticed while pushing the bike that the speedo shot up to 30 mph and wobbled there for a bit...so after this whole carb thing, I have more issues.

Are you say it runs at full throttle when you start it? Try putting the carb slide round the other way. I made this mistake on a Yam TY80 and still have the scars after I bump started it. :)
'Then' and 'than' are completely different words and have completely different meanings. Same with 'of' and 'have'. Set and sit. There, their and they're. Draw and drawer. Could care less/couldn't care less. Bought/brought FFS.

Check to see if the slide locating pin is sheared off.

My CL 90 sat a long time, and it took me a very long time with scotch brites to get that slide to move freely in its bore. It was sticking all the time.
Also, make sure your timing advance plate is free to move around.

I just found this thread.........on your carb......the idle screw has a tappered end that allows the slide to rest at various levels........so if you back it out it may not idle at all.  You say the slide only goes in one way...... Be sure the cut-out on the bottom of the slide is facing the air-cleaner and the slide is resting at the bottom of the carb intake tract.  Your cable may be too short and it may be holding the slide partly open........lower the adjuster on the top of the carb to allow the cable end to get closer, practically into the cap if necessary. Be sure the cable is properly attached to the top of the slide and be sure the needle is resting IN the emulsifier tube.....NOT next to it or hanging above it.  You should have about a 1/4 inch of free play on the throttle before the slide begins to lift.

Set the air-mixture screw at 1 turn from a gentle bottom.  Adjust to no more than 1.5 turns as needed.

I sold my S90 a few years ago. I have a line on two others. Good Luck......and carry a spare inner tube when you travel.

Remove the air cleaner.
Look into the intake.
Make sure the slide is all the way down.
Twist the throttle to see if the throttle opens all the way.

Then remove the slide form the carb.
See what position the clip is on the needle.
Put it on the middle position if it is not already.
Make sure the float is adjusted properly.
Turn the mixture screw in all the way and back it of 1.5 turns.
Back the idle screw off all the way.

Make sure that the idle jet and main jet are the correct stock size.

And last look in the carb again and make sure when the choke is off the butterfly is open all the way.
Then pull the choke on all the way, and make sure the choke butterfly is all the way closed.

If all of these steps are correct then start it and immediately adjust the idle.

If it still will not run right, then the slide and or needle is the wrong one.

Ye old throttle slide issue. There is a fix for this exact issue, and it can be had at any local hardware store for about 2 bucks. I had "cruise" control throttle issues on alot of this Honda style throttle assemblies. The cure is to help the throttle hand slide back to the park position every time. And to do this, you will need a small spring, a rubber bottle stopper, and a metal cap on the end of the spring. You remove the grip and throttle slide, install the spring into the handbar end with the rubber stopper/spring/mtal cap out. Reinstall the metal hand throttle tube/slide and grip and the throttle will snap back exactly like it does on our CB's everytime guaranteed. HTH

Well I followed your advice and did the adjustments. It runs and idles now but takes a few kicks to get it running when before it always started on the first kick but.....full throttle. Either way I am happy. Still sounds a bit funny.

Felt good riding around and honking the horn. I now have everything working except for the headlight and speedo. The speedo needle does a "tick tock" the whole time in motion. Not a gentle tick tock at all.

Pull the speedo cable and remove the inner cable...........reinstall the sheath and be happy with a quiet speedo that looks good when its parked.  Someday you will find a replacement speedo or inner cable (which ever is the culprit).

Check the ground wire on the headlight.............its usually something simple.

Hard starting may have more to do with spark & timing.  After you have a few miles on the motor, check the compression. They are touchy about having the spark gap set correctly. I've had good luck with Iridium plugs.

Turn that speedo head upside down and spray it up with a ton of creep oil. Wait a day. Hook the drill to the drive end of the cable and spin it awhile.. Then, turn it right side up and let the rusty goop out. Shoot tri-flow in , reassemble. The panel will be discolored for a little while, but it'll come back

Just pulled the old girl from the shed and wiped a winters worth of wd40. I am so in love with this bike. I see it as the essence of motorcycling. Like a pure capsule of what it is all about...but in a 90cc form. Can't wait to get it back on the road. Any thoughts about using antique plates? Or use limitations here in MA.?
