Ok, another one. With this I need your help:

Tonnie hard charging to stay ahaed of the 1000cc Laverda of the Gijs van Dijk Team which won the demo (race).
Need to put more speed in the bike for the coming edition.

Hey Brent,

You know what I am talking about. You start with something and before you know it you're in to your neck in it. I just need that little extra to give to the guys, and myself of course, to keep up with the fast(er) bikes. Not much but a little. On braking and cornering/steering we are (more than) a match, but all out speed.......
Will first put her on a dyno to see were we are and go from there.

Rob, what was the longest straight and what was the entry speed ?
Also, what speed were they reaching on the long straight ? (MPH please.)

Honestly for most I have no clue! But..............straight is about 600 meters long and the bike hit 9000rpm in fifth.

does the other side of your oil cooler route directly back to the top of the oil tank so in essence you just plumbed it inline to to your oil tank return line?

Very busy with preppin' for the trip to the Isle of Man and work that is lying around. In the mean time been working on both the racebikes. Fitted the 'test-rig' with a box swing and wire wheels, so she's ready to do battle again.
Been working on the Japauto replica too. Changed the oem swing for a longer F2 one, and changed the rearbrake arrangement. Made the 'new' Brembo caliper floating with the reaction arm to the frame.


Need to mill the caliperhanger to get rid of the excess material.

why? for the look or to reduce unsprung weight?
to reduce unsprung weight its easier to mount the springs of your shocks upside down :) :)

to reduce unsprung weight its easier to mount the springs of your shocks upside down :) :)

As you can see in the pic there is some excess weight on the hanger where the reaction arm used to be attached, that mateiral I need to remove. I know about unsprung weight but you cant mount these shocks upside down.

not many pay attention to this but with the shocks mounted the way you did, essentially the piston is working most of the time in the area where the air volume is = not good for damping. you will get much more consistent damping (good for the TT i guess) by mounting the shocks with the hydraulic cylinder on top so the piston is always working fully submerged. it did made a nice difference in my bike but i agree that the honda shock mounting system is a b@%^ to reverse

After examening the bike and studying pic's off several demo runs we entered come to the conclusion we need more ground clearance. Bike is steering very well and has grip. despite not using real racing tyres but, tho very good, normal BT45's. Could use a somewhat wider rim/tyre combo. Bike is already raised about 1" higher than 'normal'.

When we get a little 'overboard' think we'll be having a prob with the alternatorcover grinding thru.


Any suggestions?

 I think KUBOTA makes a small alternator, if you visit a rewind place, ask about the smallest they know of.
 Then you can mount off the crank snout run Alt, inboard or outboard, ahead or behind motor using a toothed belt.
 cover your  cranksnout, and seal up the oiling, and have gobs of ground clearance.
 The starter clutch oil hole should be blocked off, I push on a sleeve with a flange (for install, and removal) If you run a flat block off plate, run a floating seal reatainer outside of that. I used 2.5 OD aluminum by about 5/8 thick, with a 1 inch ID seal (remember, I have a thin sleeve over the oil hole). By using 1/64" over holes in my seal plate, it lines itself up to the cranksnout, and position of the flat blockoff plate, does not need to be precision drilled and dowelled..
 I found out the hard way, after I missed a race, I spent about 8 days getting ready for...

Here's a couple of pics of a Kubota alternator. If I recall correctly, this is a 25 amp model. These have an internal rectifier and regulator. You will need to wire a small light in series with the switched ignition lead, to tell the reg when to energize the field (this also acts as an idiot light). The units are made by ND, I think.

I don't personally know if this works.........Ken has several 'test mules' in action.

Do you use both headlights at the same time or is one a backup?  Could they be lower wattage?

You might want to check into one of these Rob.  I'm using a three phase version (modified for the XS) on my sidecar.  Similar to the CycleX product but with more output.
