Have you had any joy with the self-generating ignition yet Rob?

That bike sound awesome by the way! I would like to hear it going flat-out down the Glencrutchery Road ;D

@Nick,

Well had a go at the self-generating ignition today. Mounted the lot, But....................no starting >:(
Not sure what is wrong. All connected as per fitting instructions. But nothing (yet). Looks good tho.

One very nice feature is that the right ignition side is narrowed.

When fitting a full fairing, this will benefit.

Next step is to call in some assistance.

No Simon, this is a HPI stator kit. Virtually the same as the electrexworld ones.

This is fixed in this configuration. But you can improve by changing over to other 'boxes' and have a go at curves and rev limiter.

I am not riding at Spa this year, so no bike this year. Still hope we have the chance to meet. I'll be there Saturday.
We can exchange cellnumbers if you want.
First I will make the ignition work as is, and then want to grade it up.

Cheers, Rob

Hey Rob,

I 've heard that the HPI is not the most reliable ignition and that you have to use  resistor spark plug types , with resistor spark plug caps.
Our Accent ignition with 3 Ohm Dyna coils and a planemodel battery works great.
And we don't use resistor spark plugs , we use ND irridium racing spark plugs, expensive but a spark like a lightning.
I removed the resistors from the sparkplug caps and replaced them with iron pins. No resistance anymore.

Hey René,

Have not heard of problems with the HPI, am using the R-type sparkplugs and NGK caps. A must have for these types of ignitions. We'll see, rather experience myself than from hear say. You are right about the Accent/Dyna combo. Used that in the 'rig' with great success. Use that in the Japauto replica for now. No more Dyna ignition until they get their act right.
Maybe will try these irridium plugs too in the Japauto.

Thanks for the info.

Cheers, Rob

Hi Rob,

About the HPI relialibility, I heard it from different people in the classic scene.
I ordered the ND's irridium race by Frank Lemstra , each € 49,=.( = Hoco parts price)
Search on the internet for them, much cheaper , very reliable plugs. type = IXU01-31
Gerard v.d.Brom is using the same plugs for 3rd year.

If my 'gut' feeling isn't right wil change back to the Accent ignition. In order to, maybe, participate in a classic 3-hour Endurance event busy making preps to the test-rig. Mounted a quarter fairing and double lights like back in the days.

I like that you build a sweet bike out parts that are just lying around. Just to test things on.

It's just that there are so many thing you can do to these bikes...........and has been done. Have a few years under my belt and have been inspirated on numerous occasions. Add that up to the fact that there are a lot of pieces lying around....voila there's a 'new' bike. But the biggest thing is, I like to do what I do.

Well "VOXONDA Classic Endurance Team" has signed up for the 3 hour Endurance race-demo on septembre 10th at Aalsmeer in the Netherlands. So the test-rig will have to proof itself. Happy to say that my two heroes of the past will ride the bike. Myself as a back up rider.
Really looking forward to this.

Here both, Tonnie and Harrie, during last years revival at Oss. Now again together sharing a bike after 38 years! Both are way in their sixties, R.E.S.P.E.C.T.

I feel proud to have the opportunity to work with them.
