bad cb550 starter?

so im getting my bike all hooked up to run and this is what happened...... ^

i know the starter isnt bad because i took this starter out and then put it into my other motor and it worked fine

the teeth on the starter motor is good

the teeth in my motor where its having problems are fine

bike is in neutral idk what to do.....

the one way sprag clutch inside the gearbox might need to come out.

well i can spin the gear inside my engine and it doesn't sound like the video just when the starter is on....

not a real sprag but a term used,does the gear inside turn both ways,or just one way?

i went through the really big manual thing and i could really find anything on it about the starter and trouble shooting it

my '77cb550 starter was making similar noises when cold, worked fine when warmed up. the starter bench tested fine, another good starter made the same noises. i was advised that the starter "sprag/clutch" was in need of repair or replacement. access could only be made by splitting the cases. i later sold the bike, advising the new owner of the particulars. the bike was tuned well, and started first kick every time, so he didn't seem to mind.

It's hard to tell from the audio, but it sounds like the starter solenoid is chattering. Do you have a good, fully charged battery, or are you trying to crank the motor with a shot battery and a battery charger?

battery is fresh i just bought it and did all the steps to turn it into a battery and all that

took a multimeter and everything was good

see the thing is, is that i have 2 cb550 motors. one is the main one and the other is a parts motor.

when i try to crank the engine thats in the video ^ that happens

when i stuck the starting motor on my parts bike and cranked it the bike was perfect i could hear all the cylinders moving and some tappet covers are off and could see them moving and i can feel the air coming out of the exhaust holes

Try using the solenoid from the parts bike.

no no literally i have the spare engine siting on chair

take out the 2 bolts holding on the starter

move the physical starter on the parts motor put back in the 2 screws

then start.

i dont disconnect anything i literally just move the starter to one to the other. i also take some heavy gauge wire and ground the parts motor that is on the chair to the frame of the bike with the motor that is making the noise

im looking at a blow up view of the internals and all i see is gears.... i dont see anything that moves or anything mentioned above........

then again i have not idea lol

where did you get this diagram i cant find it in the shop manual

tdc is top dead center?

from what im getting part #46 is what the starter connects too and part #48 is the thing with the 3 ball bearings that could be locked up?

what would taking out the primary shaft do? what do you think is wrong dave500?

what about using the other motor? otherwise i would just kick start it to atleast see if the motor you are having the troubles with even fires up

the primary shaft goes through the middle of that drive clutch,it has to come out if you want to access that one way clutch,have you turned this motor over by hand yet?removed the pan and looked up into that area?it might have more troubles than obvious.
