what is the bare minimum to start my motor?
« on: June 28, 2011, 11:45:50 PM »
ok what is the bare min stuff i need to start my motor?

starting with the electrical/spark....

i grounded the battery to the frame and motor (grounding point are clean)

positive off battery goes into the starter capacitor looking thing. then the starter motor cable hooks on to the other side.

fuse box has all the fuses in it as specified

wire harness is hooked up to all the things on the electrical box

colored wire are all lined up for the coils on both sides also the green ground off the coil section is grounded

coils have ngk wire splitters with ngk hi performance coper conductor wires with ngk xd05f 5ohm heads with fresh .6mm gapped spark plugs

i do have a multimeter and i set it to 2m setting on my multi meter. connecting the multimeter to the black and yellow, black and blue i get 0 ohm

then when i shove the multimeter leads into head 1&2 and 3&4 i get .025 ohm on setting 2m

^is that the correct? ive tried to read the how to test coils but i didnt get anything it said lol so i need help with that.

then i hooked up my right controls with the appropriate wires on the harness.

---- another problem is that when i turn my ignition key once i can hit the starter button and my starter starts going on but if i move it into the next click that says ignition my starter dosnt work.....  :o

off>click 1> click 2 (ignition) so i dont know why it only works on click 1 and not click 2....

i bought an aftermarket replacement key housing but all the wires leading out of it match all the color coded wires off the wire harness.....

i have fresh points on the bike too

...................................................................

ok fuel and air

i have a K&N filter replacment (not pods) the filters are cleaned using the K&N recharge kit so they are super fresh

all the carb boots from the airbox are mint i replaced all of them.

the carbs have all been scrubbed and rebuild

the boots from the carbs to the engine are also in very good condition

hooked up both push and pull cables and it moves like butter

i have my fuel tank suspended on a ladder 7 ft in the air over my bike with a fresh rebuild petcock on a clean tank with gas

1 inline fuel filter are on both lines (they are the super high flow kind pointing in the right direction)

motor has fresh oil filter and 10w30 oil
---------------------------------------------------------

when i opened the petcock up and fuel started to run down the line for the first time into the carbs they all over flowed out of the bottom of the carb bowls down the drip tubes......

is this normal? i had to cut off the fuel.... then when i opened the fuel lines again it was fine

if you havent read already my starter clutch gear or whatever is messed up so i can not use my starter to start the bike

the bike is in neutral and i tried to kick it with the chock on.....

nothing happened....

so i dont know what is wrong?

i decided to pull on of my sparkplug wires off and i attached an extra ngk spark plug and held it up to my engine while my brother kicked it and no spark.....   :-\

so am i missing somthing on the wire harness like a ground or somthing?

the key switch first click is igniton on,the key cant be pulled out,the second click is ignition off, parking lights come on,key can be removed,,run the battery positive directly to the coil black and white stripe wires, forget about connecting it to the starter solenoid, you wont need the key switch on,,this by passes everything, make up some small jump wires for this,if the bike starts the only way to turn it off will be to remove this wire, with all the plugs out check for spark first or you might be kicking for nothing, get spark first.

Second pic appears the start solenoid is wired to frame ground.  You are very lucky that solenoid isn't actuating.  The solenoid is wired with the big wires from batt, to solenoid, to starter.  The starter is case grounded.  The small solenoid wires are switched positive (momentary start switch) and ground.

Possibly kill switch, that cuts the spark and is quite often overlooked.

the pic might be miss leading

power from battery > starter solenoid > then to starter

thats it. the other pictures with the ground that wire is going from, negative battery > frame and engine grounding potion
