The 240Z was/is a magnificent car...

It truly is.   Back in '70 when it came out, it was a lot like what the CB750 was to motorcycles  [reliable, inexpensive, better than British and fun to drive/ride!]

We are toying about buying this one...

The 240Z was/is a magnificent car...

It truly is.   Back in '70 when it came out, it was a lot like what the CB750 was to motorcycles  [reliable, inexpensive, better than British and fun to drive/ride!]

 Wow a 240Z with an all aluminum small V8 would be a screamer and a handler. I've never seen a roadster either. Had no idea they made a kit.

Toyota had a JDM 240Z back in the day with a V8 from memory, that was used by their cops. I’ve never seen one, but would love to drive one. ;D

I leased a new Ford Territory SUV in 2015 Simon, they had a 2.7 litre V6 Turbo diesel that Ford used in the later Landrovers and Rangerovers. My boss, being a pom, leased a new Range Rover with the 2.7 litre turbo diesel engine. I asked him how much his new car cost, and it worked out around twice that of the Territory. He looked gutted when I told him that he'd been ripped off. ;D

Triumph used that same basic motor in their TR8 as well...

That's my understanding too, since the rubber bumpers began to appear they were V8 ready. Chrome bumpered models required a long list of mods to make them V8 ready.

It's not too hard, when I was in the MG Car Club there were quite a few chrome bumper cars with the Rover V8 and some 302 Fords with aluminium heads and intake manifold. Another motor that is easy to install is the GM 60° V6. The 2.8L/3.1L/3.4L series V6 motors weigh within 20lbs of the stock 1.8L four cylinder. A stock 3.4L V6 makes 180hp, I have built my 110hp 2.8L V6 up to 240hp which is a nice output for an MGB. Currently I am building twin 10 to 1 compression MG motors with ported heads and lightened rods for our two MGB GT's.

i used to hate working on mgb v8s . spark plug changes were a particular pain !

A lot of front wheel drive V6 cars are worse, with ridiculous methods required for removing the rear plugs, like undoing the engine mounts to rotate the engine forward etc. one of the Toyota Camry’s was so bad it was almost an engine out job just to replace 3 fcuking spark plugs! Most V6 FWD engines are fitted with iridium spark plugs just because it’s such a pain to replace normal plugs every 10,000 miles or so.

I wanted to buy an early V6 Camry because I’d owned the 4 cylinder model and liked it but wanted more power, but my boss at the gas station who ran the workshop told me to expect to pay up to a thousand bucks for a major service that included a plug change, and that was in the 90’s. Needless to say, I didn’t buy it….. ;D

Modern cars have these stupid covers over the engines trying to impart the "nothing to see here" feeling for the owner.

i work for a toyota dealership and i can assure you they don't miss a thing, they make very sure that not only the owner but a lot of small workshops can't do much on any vehicle, you pretty much HAVE to bring it in to a dealership for service and while its there they'll 'persuade' you that it needs brakes, wipers and anything else they can get away with. and the way they do this is by telling you if you drive out without having these essential safety items attended to, you'll void your warranty, they'll let toyota know and you'll be blacklisted at every toyota dealership in the country for warranty work

this is also why most manafacturers 'offer' extended or 7 year warranties, you're stuck in the official channel until your car is so old its barely worth selling, but somewhere around your last scheduled service they'll start hitting you up with a great trade in deal on a sparkly new model and surprise surprise when you turn up to do the deal they'll have the upseller pop over to see you and tell you how much better an experience new car ownership will be with genuine floor mats or perhaps weathershields or maybe bonnet protector etc, not to mention your car will hold its value all the way to your next trade in experience

the best scam is the paint/interior protection coatings. the paint one is basically an acrylic coating that is just wiped over the car and will cost you $1000.....to make it even more appealing ( to the dealership ) you can never use normal car wash fluids or even go to a car wash place. you have to buy their special shampoo or guess what....you'll void your warranty. but not to worry , when you bring the car in for a service we'll shampoo the car for you and just add it to the bill

so even if you've bought a car with included price servicing, you'll find it doesn't actually include consumables such as oil, filters etc but if you NEED wipers, shampoo then that goes on top too

Seemed like a good idea at the time? Looked good while high? Girlfriend liked it? Got sick of people with the same bike confusing it with theirs? Worked at a dealership & needed to easily ID his bike?

I'd do that to a ducati just to annoy other ducati owners ( not a hard task admittedly but worth the effort )

i've had loads of camo paint jobs on my hondas and vmax over the years and if i keep the triumph R3 that may get a professional grade camo job ( as opposed to the usual mr rattle can i usually do )

Is it a “look at me” thing? You know, like fat chicks wearing really short skirts to get attention? I’ll have to find the vid I was looking at yesterday of an RC51 that the owner had done a rattle can custom paint job which included painting the seat pad silver.

Of course the paint was mostly worn off, and I could see that he’d previously painted it red, so it looked extra crap. I could just imagine him getting off the bike at his local coffee shop and walking around with a silver arse…… ;D

 They use a weird paint job like that sometimes on new machines from the factory that they may have out in the field doing testing on so magazine spies and such have a hard time seeing or picking up the details. Maybe going for something along that kind of look ??
