Cross Country on a 750F!
« on: August 22, 2011, 10:01:23 PM »
Okay, so I left home (just south of San Francisco) on the 10th (3:30 pm 8/10) and just arrived at my brothers house in Lancaster, PA about an hour and a half ago (11:30 pm, 8/22). It's been about 5,000 miles so far and I still need to ride back! I took a ton of pics and have a few adventures to share but for now I'm grabbing some much needed grub and a good nights sleep. I'll provide more details tomorrow.
So much to do, so little time.

Here's a shot of my set-up. I randomly crossed paths w/ a buddy of mine in the middle of Oregon and he took this photo.

This brings back memories for me. In 1974 I bought a new 550 in L.A. and rode it across the heartland of America to NY.  Twenty years later I rode the same bike from NY across the Northern states and into Canada and then down to our home in San Diego, where we had moved in 1985. It's an amazing experience, and I hope to do it again in 2014, albeit on a different ride.  Enjoy your trip back.

Cool picture!  The desire to own a Westy is what initially started the idea of taking my Honda across country.  We had an amazing time and I bet you did too. Can't wait to see the rest of the pictures!
Nice looking bike, too!

Awesome fatmatt 8) Can't wait to see all the pictures and comments of your adventure. How are you and the 750F holding up over the long haul, any problems so far? Hope not.

Good luck, be safe, and have fun

RIGHT ON! A fellow skater as well, I'm sure you found some spots to shred. Although mostly these days I stick to cruising and longboarding, easier on this old body.

Watching!
Ride safe,

Well done!! Looking forward to more details and pics!

There should be a SOHC Cross-Country Club ;) ...or at the least a Ride Reports section where the Cross-Country Club could be stickied...any takers?

cheers
Andy

I think I'll be busy going for a ride.

Hey Bender, I lived in Wilmington, NC for a while about 10 years ago and Tony came to town for the Mid-Atlantic Sound, Surf and Skate Symposium. I was watching San Diego band Buck-O-Nine at a little club when he walked in and leaned up against the post next to me watched the rest of the show. I gave him the "wassup" nod, he nodded back, surreal.
Dedhed, I skated many parks and even found a full pipe. My run-in w/ my westy friend in OR was great, he pointed out about 5 parks on my way that I hadn't even heard about.
Dhall - The bike and I held up great. The only real comfort issues were the result of skateboard and white-water rafting related slams. I brought along a bunch of vicodins just in case but never needed them. A few minor bike issues that I'll relate in a bit.
JB - I've been cross country in busses a few times now. In fact, last year I was coming down the Beartooth Pass in MT with my gf in our 72 hightop camper and realized I needed to come back on a motorcycle.
Gordon - Not sure if that things a synchro or not, I know he schmobs it offroad a lot but it might just be jacked up. I'm more of an aircooled guy and don't know how to tell them apart.
So much to do, so little time.

I'm jealous, I'd love to make a ride that that...or even close to that! I've pretty much resigned the fact that I'm going to be doing contract IT work now so at least I have a job that's conducive to making long distance rides. Now I just have to figure out what to do with the wife and kids!!
