Branden,

Did a little fiche digging and I'm stumped. I couldn't find those seals?? I even tried looking on a GL fiche like I did for the oil pump seals. I am surprised! You have the size of the one, can't we just plug that in as a search and see what happens?

Good idea, I went back and did just that:

Do I see new/NOS long engine mount bolts?!?!

Cases together! Went together without a hitch except I went a little thick with the Three Bond. Now I just need some expensive stuff to finish the engine.

Really nice work brandEn!

Question for you: The longer APE main bearing studs... were they long enough to engage all the threads in the nuts properly?

I did a dry fit on my build, and noticed the longer studs didn't protrude as far as the other studs when I put the bottom case on.  Almost seems like they should be another 5-10mm longer.

A long time ago, back when I worked for in the engineering department of a chemical company, I thought I remember hearing that at least two threads should protrude past the nut as a general rule on properly bolting things up..... or maybe it was they should at least be flush... I don't remember.

I didn't take a picture, but I'm pretty sure the longer studs were flush with the top of the nuts when I did my dry fit.

Definitely interested to know if you experienced the same.

Thanks!
Chris

The bigger seal I found through a forum search. The smaller seal that I pulled out reads 4.8 x 15 x 4 but I happened to have a new tach seal that is 4.8 x 14.6 x 4 . I believe thats what I used on my F3 and so thats what's going in here.

No those bolts aren't NOS. They are the old ones just hit with the wire wheel and then the buffer.

Thanks Chris,

The APE lower studs fit perfect. I have one thread protruding past the nuts. In the aircraft maintenance world as long as at least one thread is past the end of the nut your good to go. The main goal is making sure that the threads of the nut and the threads of the stud are fully engaged and they are. A dab of blue loctite for security and I don't anticipate any problems.

Just bought a 18 x 2.15 Excel rim from FFJmoore! Gonna slap it on the front and gonna go with either 18 x 3.0 or 18 x 3.5 in the back. Anybody have tire size suggestions that they know will handle with this setup?

You shouldn't have too much problems finding tires to fit mate...  These conti's are a new style tire for older style bikes and have tires fin the sizes we talked about   ;)

Man those look like great tires.
There might be a last minute change of plans....
I may be buying a set of CB750 F1 forks completely rebuilt with Race Tech suspension components. The only thing is, it has -1 fork tubes. I am not sure -1 tubes combined with an 18" front wheel  would be a safe idea. Any thoughts on that? Seems like its changing the rake a lot. I don't want any tank slappers.

Maybe I will just run the WM3 Excel 2.15 x 18 rim on the rear (it is the stock size after all) and get a stock size front rim to match.
Thoughts or input would be great!

You are already going to be slightly lower with the 18inch front, i would buy new stock length tubes if it were me or even 1 inch over tubes so i had room to get the suspension right. Using 1 inch under forks is going to lower the front nearly 2 inches with the 18 inch front wheel..... Something to think about..

Yea my thoughts exactly. hmmm, might have to pass on the front end. I have some 78K forks I was going to use on this build with progressive springs and a fork brace. Might have to stick with that plan.

You should be able to find a taller aspect ratio front tire to go with the 18" wheel.
Compare the OEM tire sizes between a Triumph Bonneville & Thruxton for example.
You could also use shorter area shocks if necessary.

Yea I thought about making up some of the room with a taller tire. I just bought new Hagon shocks at the stock length so I don't really want to shorten them, not to mention I am 6' tall so going any shorter in no good. Thanks for the input Jim. I have no idea what I'm doing when it comes to suspension set up and planning so any input you have is greatly appreciated. Keep the knowledge and input coming!

This is what I am thinking.....

FRONT
(suspension guidance needed)
WM3 Excel wheel 2.15" x 18"
100/90-18 tire

REAR
Stock length Hagon shocks
WM6 Excel wheel 3.5" x 18
130/80-18 tire

Why go to the trouble of putting nice wheels and tires on your bike then lowering it..? Kinda defeats the purpose of having good tires in the first place..  It will handle much better at the correct ride height..

Bike looks great man. Thanks for the pics.
The suspension travel does look limited up front though. Have you ridden like that ?

Looks like those Conti tires you linked Retro don't come in 100 wide for a 18. Bummer.

One more piece to the puzzle got installed today.

The 754 chain oiler plug.
THANKS FRANK! I took some pictures for you.
 ;D

I thought about installing it with some Hi-Temp RTV on the threads but it was such a tight and perfect fit I don't think its really necessary. I just lubed the o-ring with engine oil.

OK.. Where do I get one of these? Did I miss something!?

The plug was machined by member 754. I am not sure if he is ready to start producing them, I consider myself lucky to have gotten one of the two he made...
