CB 750 K1 GT New Pics with a new look

I thought I was done with builds for awhile but the universe works in strange ways...  After checking out BrandEns 74 build I started to get a slight urge for a build but could have fought it off.  That was until I received a text from a buddy who was cleaning out his garage and offered my his titled K1 that was partially torn apart for $600, DAMN!  Hooked up the trailer and headed up to his place, cash in hand.  When I get there and start loading the K1 he says... Why don't you just take the K3 also...$#%#!  No cost I just want my garage cleared out.  Thanks Russ!

The K1 is complete but partially torn down and the K3 is complete but without a title.  All I really know is F2/F3 so I will be needed some guidance from the experts on this build.

Both are pretty crusty but the plan is to build the K1 and use the K3 for parts as needed.  Both fuel tanks are in excellent condition and all parts are there for both bikes.

Thanks Stev-o.   He pulled the motor because he was planning a total rebuild of the bike.

When I rebuild a bike I do a complete rebuild from the engine up, so I see this as time saved... Ha ha.  Less tear down for me.

Being so impressed with your '77 F2 build (amazing is an understatment), I will definitely be following this one for guidance VERY closely since i just picked up a '76 F1 too (and another 550 for my buddy)!  My F1 has to wait until my 550 Gulfstream is finished.....well, maybe not............

I'm sure this will not disappoint.

As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

K1 is interesting as the triple tree has the red light in the center which I believe was a speed indicator and usually only found on Japanese models.

Cant wait to see what you do with these.

Thanks for checking in Andy.  that is interesting about the red light in the unicorn, maybe I will post up a question to get clarification.  It also has a 6 hole front brake carrier that is different than the K3.

Do any of the stickers on the bike (swing arm, rear fender, oil tank) have japanese writing on them?  Could have just been a top triple swap with the changed out tach, but if there are other signs, it may be an actual JDM (Japanese Domestic Market) bike.

Red light = speed alert for Japanese domestic models mate, Andy is correct.... ;D ;)

The Plan is for a complete engine rebuild, 836, minor head work ect.  nothing like having a rebuilt engine sitting in the shop to keep me motivated.  Then I will have never2old do the paint and build the bike around that.

Tore down the 71 engine this am and have been surprised so far on how everything looks.


Soaking the studs for a few days to help with removal.


Next i will inspect all the internals and order new bearings.
