Went to see Mike yesterday who very generously helped me put new sprockets and chain on the VStrom. After this we (his son, Mike and myself) installed the 1000cc megaton engine - the photos dont do it justice - this is a beautiful looking engine. And check out that swingarm :) bling bling!!!

The hard part is over...

And the swingarm...

I cant wait to see this bike run as the previous version (the 915 that produced 98 bhp) was like riding a modern sports bike - sooooo smooth and powerful.

thanks Mike!

cheers
Andy

Mike - can you do a block / piston kit that would come out at 945cc.  That's our class displacement limit for the P3 sidecars.  If that's possible, I'd do a swap.  Someone (Stan-2?) buys a block / piston / gasket kit from you, I ship them my 1060(?) complete kit.  Possible??

Looks like I'll get to use that 1060 kit of mine after all.  Word is that AHRMA is / has changed the P3 sidecar engine rule to 750 - 1300cc 4 stroke any configuration. 8) ;D ;D ;D

After wanting one since you first started advertising, I finally get to buy.
Sign me up and send me a bill.  I'll buy a full cylinder+pistons+gaskets set.

Folks, I already have one of Mike's special heads and some fancy carbs.  I sent off my Crank to Big Jay for some Carillios and his magic touch.  Now I need one of these cylinder sets.   Will post pics.

G'day
Are these blocks suited to street use or only for track.
I tried sending a PM but couldn't get it to work.
I need to get a good engine built for a bike and would like to start working out a rough price
Thanks

does that mean you see one when you walk out to your garage.
If so how good does it look, and do you mind if I ask round about what I may need to spend to get a good engine for street use.

Scott,

In all seriousness you COULD spend over $7000 (3 zeroes) USD on an engine BUT ONLY IF YOU WANT TO. I wanted to  ;D

Tell us what your goal is and we can fill in the numbers for you.

Mate it's to go in a Rickman I'm slowly putting back on the road.

I've got other bikes to ride so I don't think it will get used all that often.  But when I do ride it I want it to go better than what most people would expect from a CB750 .

I want it to be fun (quick) but because it will only be used on the road it needs to be able to putt around at 30 to 40 MPH on my way to the good roads.

I have no idea what the best combination of engine size, head work, crank work, carburation or anything but I don't think $6000 to $7000 is unreasonable plus it would cost me $600 to $1000 to get it shipped out to Australia if I can't find anyone here to build it
I guess one last thing is that the engine may get swapped out of the Rickman and put into the K2 for a bit of fun on special occasions (trip to Phillip Island)

Scott

Gday Scott, mines still in a box but its 1000cc with Nikasil bores and is dead sexy.... 8) 8) ;)

To go with what Jerry said, I have spent around 5-6 grand on engine parts already and have a few thousand to go, Mine WILL go better than anyone expects a 750 to go... ;D

You don't need to get an engine built overseas at all, plenty of good builders here, some expensive, some not...
Hang around here, do your homework and you'll have a good engine, there's a few fanatics from Aus right here and we will help steer you in the right direction, just depends on how much money you want to spend, its not about money for me, its about getting what i want, and doing it properly...

Stage IV head ~ $2000
Crank work with Carrillo rods installed ~ $1500
Cam, sprocket, Tsubaki chain and KA Tensioner ~ $700
Tranny work ~ $400
915/970/1000 Bore kit and stock cylinder work ~ $1500 (if over 849cc)
MRieck cylinder stuff ~ $?
Primary chains and tensioner ~ $250
Gaskets, bearings, o-rings, etc ~ $500
Carbs ~ $800
Powdercoating engine cases ~ $400
Etc

Oh yeah, it'll run better than a 'normal' 750 - MUCH better and have 50% more power at least.

I've contacted Mike and will start looking into it a bit more seriously now.
Seems to me I could have a heap of fun with an engine like this
