First experiment with fiberglass - big pics
« on: September 22, 2010, 09:06:18 AM »
Sorry about the micro pics in the first post - I think this will fix it.

I didn't really like the way that the molding looked on these aftermarket sidecovers I have, mostly because I'm running pods instead of the airbox.  So I decided to try my hand with a little fiberglass to do some reshaping.  A pretty minor modification really, but I think it came out pretty decent for a first try.  Hoping it holds up...

Here is the best before pic I could find-

And here's after:

I just used a dremel and cut my front edge off. A bit of wet sand and it was good for paint.
Can't quite see what you did with the small photos.

All I really did was remove the molding that is supposed to match up to the original airbox.  No big shakes really, after seeing what some guys on this site can do with fiberglass.  The after market covers I had were pretty busted up, so I reinforced the tabs all around, patched a hole, and trimmed them down as small as I could get them.  The only remotely tricky part was carrying the contour of the edge around to fill in where the previous molding was not...  The last picture says it best I think.

I saw earlier that you were selling these.  Wish i had noticed about 6 months ago - looks like a real fair price - but I'm still pretty happy with the way mine turned out.
