150mph...now that would be cool.Is the place you guys run over there called Lake Gardinere or something like that?

What is the altitude there?Average temp?

I get all curious about this stuff after running at Bonneville, wondering stuff like would i go alot faster at sea level..be interesting to try anyway.

Hell maybe i will just go to Australia and see how they do it..lol

Dennis ....... you noticed I'm a few days behind schedule! :o :(

Lake Gairdner speed week is from Sat 1st march until Friday 7th March ,  that gives me two full weekends and a few nights after work .   I forgot what a thrash around going racing is like, cant believe no matter how organised one is it still ends up at 2am for a few nights before going racing ........how does that work, we are supposed to get wiser as we get older.

Dennis if I miss the cut I should send the bike over to you to manage a team with a pintsized midget to ride ( not your big lanky frame ) call it "Kangaroo sled".

Joe speaking of temperature thats one of the late reasons,  its been hard in the shed with shed temp of 105 deg F to 120 deg F   kind of slows things , been that way for about a month, wasnt in my planning.

Last year they had the meeting this time early Feb and on the Sunday it was 113 deg F and Monday was hotter around 115 deg F.  two people were medivaced to hospital with total renal failure and nearly died from excessive sports drinks, lots of drivers and riders feinted at the start line and had to be iced up to recover , kept the doctors busy as they had approx 60 cases of heat related dramas.....so this year they delayed the meeting until march , first week of autumn... hopefully all is good as we get good weather in March warm days cool nights kind of stuff.     the sea level is a real advantage compared to Bonny although some say the rarified air is easier to push through..........not me I havent done it before so learning. ;) ;D

To be honest 150 is a number to aim for as its the class record but it is also the speed of the works CR 750 hondas in the 70's and would be nice to match.
The only thing on my mind is it is 750cc and the torque is light on and I remeber on my stocky at 120mph flat out there was nothing left in the tank so really I would be happy with 140mph and Xtra is a bonus.   Also the gearing is unknown for me and I am only taking a couple of sprockets 17,18, 43, 41 for this year and if I'm off the pace will just have to wait until next year ..............that dreaded learning proccess.

Oh if your ever crazy enough to come to OZ let me know I will help you with an itinery
Cheers johno

Dennis,

Three 750's there in 2013. The Japanese rider that didn't know how to pronounce YaMiYa. He thought it was YamiYa LOL Thanks for correcting me on that by the way. Wasn't that other clunker 750 an Aussie guy or was he a Brit? Remember, the bike that was bought sight unseen from the New York shop, they blew the engine then put in a 73 (?) stock engine and expected 120 and did 88?

This is a blast guys!

tonight was dial a cam night.

is Mega 125 / 75   so I set the clearances to .004 both in and exh

I set the cam as per card 1 deg advanced

I used a APE cam sprocket and two bolts, I normally wouldnt use a slotted sprocket as they make me nervous thinking the bolt might come loose but I'll give it a go,  the bolts are super tight and used loctite,  it certainly made dialling in cam very very easy,

Rechecked the valve clearance, got heaps, rechecked the timing marks on the crankcase the mark was 2 deg out so remarked the case. rechecked the valve timing after loctiting

All good  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D 8)

johno, I hear ya. More often than not there is some kind of crazy voodoo that works against being prepared early for a race event.   ;D

Congratulations though, it seems your engine is crossed off the "to-do" list!

Keep up the good work.

Those guys from Australia with that old cb750 with the metal fairing...he asked me to look at the bike,i go over there,it wont crank,i put my volt meter on the battery..had like 3 volts..hooked up his *ignition wires*..1.3 volts..lol..they fried a brand new Shorai battery somehow..i go get my spare battery..get it fired up,advance the timing, adjust the carbs, sounded way better..then the rain came..and when i got back in the morning they were packed and gone..along with my battery.
I know it wasnt on purpose but still..lol

Damn Johno your work conditions sound like what i used to deal with in Atlanta...hot and humid..i dont miss it...Colorado for me baby, lol

plus im closer to Bonneville..

p.s i am crazy enough to go to Australia, went to the World Superbike race at Phillip Island in 09'...

I sure hope you get the numbers you want...if you get even close,i for one would be real happy, people dont realize how hard this stuff can be!

A little present for you Johnno, a reward for going "the extra yard" in difficult conditions  ;)

It's fully adjustable , but keep it in the esky, as heat will knock it around.

Hi Joe,
I seen a u tube clip of that bike you helped out,
Any one who helps a fellow man will have good things happen.
I need to square the slate with you Joe, do you have any plans to run a 750 in the future or are you a 400 junky ?
I have some contacts in stainless fabrication so I can do some nice stainless engine mounts for you, nice and stiff, look spoofy, if you fancy some Joe let me know.

If your 5 foot nothing and weigh 60 kg you could have a run on my bike. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I had a chuckle when that guy says he's gonna do 120  ;D but hey, you never know. Forgot about that "fairing".

Where are you in Colorado again?? You should add it to your info cause I'll probably forget  ::) Perhaps you, me and Dennis can hook up along the way to Bonneville this year?! Gotta get Johno over with us too somehow. Maybe even Sam and Bill.

Maybe after Johno smokes their record he'll come attack our's  ;) Maybe I should take mine out once I get it running. It has Mike's head too with a 125-75 and the 67mm pistons with a 1000 and 1080 setups just waiting.

Joe & Jerry..........I missed the 3rd bike........and apparently I didn't miss much ;D

Johno.........LMAO about you calling me 'Big and Lanky'..........That picture is misleading because the Tiger Cub is a very small bike with a 54-inch wheelbase after being stretched by the maximum 10%.  I weigh about 200 lbs. plus the leathers.  The fast bikes have extra weight added to the swingarms.........sometimes as much as 100 lbs.............so I figure I'm already carrying the weight needed to hold traction at speed.

Did you have any problems with valve to edge of cylinder clearances?  We are concerned that the larger valves in an F2-head may not clear the edge of the deck or the edge of the piston with a long-duration cam.

We have had a few discussions about tuning #s 2&3 to run slightly cooler because of the prolonged time at WFO and the flame begins on the 'wrong' side of the mixture swirl.  Lots of jets in the tool-tray along with various plugs have been ordered. We have had good results with Iridium plugs but considering trimming the ground-strap a bit to open up the initial flame.

Ken claims his special cam-sprocket bolts will keep the sprocket locked in place.  I'll try to start my build thread in March.................thanks for taking the lead ;)

Pleasure having you on the thread Joe ;D
Keep looking over my shoulder I appreciate any advice and I hope we get to hook up some day,  your turf or mine.
If the bike handles well I could send the rolling frame over  and Billy or Jerry could throw one of their gun motors in to experience the salt fever ;) ;D ;D ;D ;D   you just never know what tomoz brings ;)

Dennis, you must be clarevoyant !      I had some issues with the 34mm valve just snicking the top of the piston lip by a few thou.  The deck height was .008 thou,  play doh shoed plenty of room all over for piston to head,  the valve to piston check showed all good at around 140 thou clearance but every third or fourth time I turned the engine over it hesitated at TDC, I had the head of and on 3 or 4 times before I worked out what was happening, I just relieved the inside of the lip ( inlet plunge cut ) about .20 thou , repainted the tops with heat proof paint, watched the wind bounce them all over the shed floor cleaned them up again, checked them for cracks and miked them up,  all good and another race engine adventure completed. ;D 8)

The edge of the valve-to-cylinder/piston clearance is our major concern for the 34mm valve-face as we attempt to build compression for this piston profile (original J&E 12.5-1) with an F2 head. We may be forced to use smaller valves and rely on duration and forced-air-induction (modest intake pressure in the air-box) to fill the cylinders to the max.

I had a similar piston or valve to 'something' clearance issue on a rebuilt 305 twin motor.........it was the head gasket. If all goes well, I plan to scribe a copper gasket to the shape of the head and have it water-jetted to fit.

You're on!! Glad you'll make it  8)  Gear that baby up! The Mountain Course will give you 1 or 2 miles to get up to speed for the flying mile. If you gear it big enough and that JMR Big Flow Head keeps on sucking wind then we can move you to the International (Sam) Course and you get 5 miles to wind her up  ;D. This is the reason I run with Webers, these arrived today ....in real terms its another set of carby's
these are the 32mm venturis and jets etc

So I have 31mm venturis in to start then will change to 32mm on the dyno.....see what works best
Looking forward to your results, Marko! I have 30's, 32's, a dyno, but no time!!!  ;D

I had the oil hole to block off so I used a speedy seal repair sleeve and loctite, and where the grub screw on balancer drive ( when balancing the crank) dug on the crank left a nick right where the seal run on the cycle x cover , so speed sleeve on there too.
