Attempted to remove kreem from tank today, this stuff should be outlawed! I assumed acetone would turn the kreem into a liquid and it would just pour out .I think its is now a bigger mess than when i started. I have a few questions for those who have successfully got this crap cleaned out of their tank. How much acetone should be used ? i started with one Gallon. Should i fill the tank completely with acetone or some other removal liquid? I wonder if anyone has tried boiling water??
I have removed Kreeme with water soluble furniture stripper in the past and it ate it out quickly. Very delicate operation as I was working with original paint.  The bad news is the stuff I loved has basically been outlawed now thanks to our government and the EPA.

Methyl ethyl ketone (MEK) is the recommended chemical for removal of Kreem. In some places it is getting hard to find and instead they sell MEK substitute, so watch the label closely if you try it.

I used to contract with a radiator shop a while back to line fuel tanks for motorcycles and after a few years of my small business, the Harley shop, etc. That radiator shop told me,for the price I was paying them,it wasn't worth it for them to do it anymore.I think Al was getting sick(he used MEK) plus we were overloading him with motorcycle tanks.

Ouch Terry! Get the doctor to give you some Silvadene cream (unsure in spelling) it is designed to help heal bad burns. Tefla non-stick pads too are your friend. Very easy to get severe burn an nasty infection, do keep it well wrapped and monitor for infection until scar can heal enough.
I rode my C70 years ago and one night got home late and was unloading rack from right side outside my apartment and stepped too close to the hot muffler and when I straighten my leg was rewarded with a stripe burn across the shin equally as disgusting. I didn't have the nerve deadening elixor at my disposal...just over the counter meds.
Well, I hope it heals well...

Truly horrible story about John, stuff of nightmares.

Yeah, take care of that as pipe burns that size are serious as they can easily get infected.  Years ago, before I even wanted a motorcycle, a friend of mine thought he would have a ride on another friends new powerful dirtbike.  He was wearing shorts and got a big old pipe burn when he inevitably tipped over.  He didn't keep the burn clean enough, it got severely infected, so bad that he developed a high fever and began hallucinating.  He had to be hospitalized and still has a huge scar from it.
If it works good, it looks good...

Thanks guys, I put a fresh dressing on it yesterday and am too scared to try to remove it as I think the pad has adhered to the wound, so I'll wait until I'm in the shower tonight and hope getting it wet will do the job. I'll have to google that burn cream David, and see if I can buy it here.

I did the same thing 5 years ago while moving my hot VTR1000F into my garage. That was the catalyst for my current health situation. It became infected, so I went to see the doc in Canberra and she said that while she'd treat me for the burn and infection, she wanted to know why it became infected, so sent me off for blood tests, and it turns out I was a borderline type 2 diabetic.

At that stage I was around 340 pounds, so started to think about weight loss surgery, but didn't have sufficient private health care to cover the $17,000 insurance contribution, plus the $7000 "excess" that I would have to pay out of my own pocket, so I changed health funds, took out top hospital cover and waited the minimum 2 years before I could have the surgery. It was a good thing that I did too, as while I was recovering from the gut surgery I was going back to hospital every couple of weeks for a gastroscopy due to complications from the surgery which meant I couldn't take solid food for the first four months as I couldn't swallow anything, even large pills. While all this was going on, I woke up one morning and couldn't pee, so back to hospital for an emergency TURP to remove some of my prostate.

During one of my gastroscopy's, the anesthetist casually asked me when I'd had my heart attack? I replied that I hadn't had a heart attack, and she said, "yes you have, it's here in the ECG you had back in 2015." Ooops..... I do remember collapsing in my garage on the AFL Grand Final night in 2011 and staggering into the empty house with massive chest pain, but didn't think to call an ambulance, and after a couple of hours it just went away, so I didn't think much about it? Maybe I should have, my big brother died of a massive heart attack in 2016....

That was in 2018, then last year I had liver surgery in October, then facial reconstruction surgery in November after I copped a clutch plate in the face, so this year, I've been pretty lucky. A few cuts, bruises and burns, but I'm much healthier than I've been in years, so fingers crossed, I'll live long enough to finish a couple more projects, and do 21 rides in 2021........ ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Will these bearings be OK to use? I think they might be sandcast.

The "new" engine I bought for my K2 bitsa needs to come back out so I can fix the gearbox. It'll only select 1st, 2nd and third gears, then..... a whole lotta neutral.

I don't mind, buying an old engine is always a gamble, but it would have been nice if I didn't have to. I should have it out, fixed, and back in the frame and running in 2 days (I'm only gonna flip the engine and split the cases without removing the head and cylinder block etc) but I can't decided if I have time to do it now, or whether I should wait until after Christmas. I've got a ton of yard work to do before our annual Christmas Eve BBQ so really can't afford too much time for wrenching, but at the same time, I want to get the bitsa going properly and riding it.

Indecision is the enemy of success, and being indecisive pisses me off. ;d

Thanks Per, I've ordered a "Skip Bin" (dumpster) for next Monday to throw all the excess car parts from my son's recent car revival, plus all the cartons from the various deliveries of motorcycle parts, weeds, garden clippings, etc etc. That gives me 3 days to do the bitsa engine rebuild, so I should be able to do both jobs and make the place presentable for Christmas.

The good thing is, I've got enough parts to rebuild several engines, so no need too buy anything, but lots more booze.......... ;D

" I've got enough parts to rebuild several engines....."
I bet you have even more parts, only a  frame or 2 with registrations/titles you need ;)

That's how my brown K2 was born and soon it's a few months older K2 brother's frame I bought in August.
I could not resist a bare frame with registration to mount the parts I planned for the brown bike that entered the fantastic CB750 stock route.
But, the last frame is not cut so  the brown will get that frame for future value.

The brown's frame will get other parts and 890cc engine, VM29 carbs. 4-1. Freedom Green tank set. GS1000-78 fork w dual brakes and 81 cast front wheel, Henry Abe 16" rear wheel if not changing my mind.
Most parts in my garage except fenders.
GS1000 front fender cost silly money, around 300 Euro. Alternatives on eBay look like from totaled bikes, cost way too much and look like scrap metal.

I'll see if the last K2 will get CB750 fork and wheels. Only fork I need to find ;)
I need to remove stuff in my garage, making room for 3 bikes.
If my wife will get space for overwintering flowers under lamps, everything will work out fine!

Do you have any skill with fiberglass? FunJimmy on his Cafe Interceptor showed how he took a Suzuki fender he liked and welded in a strip to widen it I think and made it perfectly snooth because he then made a mold from that and did a carbon fiber cloth and fiberglass cloth front fender from that mold. It had the fork mounts molded in, he likely put washers in the layup at the fender mounts beneath a layer of light (2 oz/sq yard fiberglass ) The 2 ounce cloth provides a nice smooth outer layer which is nit difficult to fill the weave of the cloth.
I can tell you how to do the layers if you need more info...

Jimmy painted his fender but with a UV stable 2K urethane clear over the Carbon fiber fender the fender could be left carbon fiber or partially exposed. Hard to get twill carbon fiber to lay flat and not need cut out sections in layup as fender curves and you are also dealing with curves in two directions, wheel radius as well as  febder in cross-section.

Thanks Per, part of the reason that I pushed the Z1-B project back is that I’m having second thoughts about the wheels. I’ve got those beautiful Lesters meant for a CB750. (Rear is for a CB500, but I can make it fit) I bought the remains of a K1 (my favourite model CB750) last year, and have since bought a good front and rear OEM Z1 wheel, so I might put the Lesters on the K1 and stock wheels on the Z1. Decisions, decisions...... ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

I vote for stock wheels on the Z1B, hopefully that doesn't piss you off. The bike is more valuable and harder to find then the lowly CB750.

Thanks Eric, I don't disagree, the Z1-B is such a beautiful bike it doesn't need lesters to enhance it, it just means that I now need to buy a pair of brake discs, calipers, MC, etc etc so I can put it back to stock(ish). The Lesters will look good on the K1 and as I had new Stinko tyres installed on them, one less thing to buy for the K1, which will be a bit of a mild hotrod (albeit with original paint etc) anyway.

I'll have a spare 18" rear Henry Abe wheel (with a new Stinko tyre) and an 18" front Lester out in the garage too, so I might need to make another "Bitsa" with a K6 frame that needs some rust repairs, and I'll build another engine out of the spare 4 or 5 engines I have scattered around the garage. Why? well as Robert Kennedy once said, "Some men see things as they are, and ask why. I dream of things that never were, and ask why not". This is the whole philosophy of building Bitsa's.......... ;D

Gumnuts!  I didn't see a pile of them on the edge of the footpath, and subsequently took a tumble.  I stepped on them with my good leg, which slipped out from under me, and resulted in my bad leg (missing most of a kneecap) getting twisted.  I reckon there's not many undamaged tendons left in my bad leg.  This all happened a week ago, and the bad leg is slowly getting better.  Some motorcycle related injuries haunt you for years...

There's a K0 "Expert" on the Aussie CB750 FB page who was selling a 12/69 K0 a couple of days ago. Just a bare frame, engine with the top end off, wheels, tank and seat, for "$8000, not negotiable". Having just finished building my K0 I said it looked good, but made the comment that by the time someone found all of the "unobtainium" parts, they'd be up for at least another $8K, plus engine rebuild and restoration costs if they had someone else restore it for them.

He went mental. He posted several sarcastic remarks then sent me a PM telling me to "Get Fcuked", so I explained to him that he certainly wouldn't say that to my face, or I'd shove his teeth down his throat. To be honest, I couldn't get over his attitude, I wasn't being rude, I just stated the obvious. If I was in his shoes I would have agreed that the bike as it stood was just a starting point for an expensive restoration, but no, he went berserk, and pulled the ad. Kind of a pity, I actually thought about buying it. Weird. ;D
