I dropped off the chrome bits at that plater and got a quote.  I'm glad I found these guys.  I did end up not having him do the gauge backs because they were too badly pitted.

19 pieces for $460 out the door is a smokin' deal in California.

I live in the Sacramento area, whats the name of the chrome shop. I have mufflers for my CB500 I may have chromed.
thanks, Mark

It's called Electro Forming, in Richmond California.  They're open I think from 8am to 330pm, and aren't great at answering the phone sometimes.

Stev-o, I haven't gotten them back yet, I expect it'll be another couple weeks.  I'm guessing left side mufflers? ;D ;D

Started working on my spare K0 hubs...it started out like most do: yellowed and dingy looking.  That factory clear coat is TOUGH!  I let the spray on Air Craft Paint Remover work its magic for about half an hour, and it still didn't break through all the clear.  But, under that clear is a real nice looking hub.  I should be able to just lightly clean up the rough spots, and re-clear at least this front hub.

Here is the other hub I already had clear coated...too flat looking.

It's because of the way I prepped it, but he put a lot of clear on them.  I think I'm going to coat them myself when I get them looking right.

Another day of "Nothing is easy on this project..."

We borrowed a hone from a shop my dad is friendly with, and honed the .50mm overbored cylinders to find that one of them is pitted beyond usability.  Instead of boring all four cylinders and buying all new pistons, I'm going to bore a standard sized sleeve from another cylinder and swap it with the one bad sleeve in my sandcast set.  It's a lot more work than I was expecting, but it's the most cost effective solution.

The bad sleeve...pits can be felt with a fingertip.

A good sleeve for comparison

I reinstalled the shifter mechanism pieces, but it doesn't feel right to me...I'm going to disassemble it and do it again more carefully.

Does this look right?

I disassembled the shifter mechanism and started over..something was off with the roller pins that clamp onto/into the shift drum..everything feels nice now.  I pulled the engine covers off the K1 that came in this sandcast frame, and started working on finishing them.  The shifter (mission) cover is cleaning up very nice with green scotchbrite, but the valve cover is going to require some sanding.  It started oxidizing the moment I cleaned off the clear coat with paint remover.

Cylinder/sleeve swap is done.  It took a little over an hour between heating up two different sets of cylinders and swapping a good sleeve into the sandcast cylinder set.  I'm definitely going to have to repaint the good set when they come back from boring.  Just the one cylinder has to be bored .50mm to match the others.  That took up most of my time today, but I also got the handlebars wired with the new switches, and bead blasted all my engine covers...it was taking too long to get an even finish with sandpaper and elbow grease - now I'm starting from the same place on all of them.

The head is out at a machine shop still, but should be ready soon.

The 'new' sleeve is pretty obvious when set against the others...

The valve cover is a real pain in the ass to get an even finish on.

And, the alternator cover has some deep scratches I can't get out...crap :-/

Sandy head is back from the machine shop, and looks the business :D :D

Looking for ideas on how best to fix the busted spigot without heating up the head and replacing it...

Try applying heat from the inside..............If no, put ice on inside after minor heat on the head............they have a sealing-agent in the threads to overcome.............then be sure to seal the new unit.

Thanks OS!  I knew there was some sealant to overcome.  Any ideas on what to use on the new one?

Gotta love Yamiya for some stuff.  Even with shipping, I got four OEM grips for less than the price of two from the Honda dealer.  I stocked up on extra fork copper crush washers in case I need 'em later.  I don't know where else to find them.  Also got the correct K0 single cable throttle tube, ten exhaust spigot screws, and an extra starter button.

The cylinders are off to be bored, and we're going to replace the busted intake spigot.

Yes, Yamiya is quite a site, some stuff is worth more than the entire US space program and other stuff is dirt cheap, I think their pricing officer likes acid..... 8)
