Oh dear! A fuel thread... Popcorn at the ready!
What? That's a stinky topic?? Nevermind then, I don't need to know  :P

Depending on how long it will be idle. Run it till  it dies with the tap turned off to drain the bowls. I forget if OEM carbs have drains or not. My Mikunis don't.  Keep the tank as full as possible to reduce condensation.

Fluids are up to you.

I have tried all the products and found Startron to be the best fuel stabilizer ever made. After a 1 year sit my fuel is still good.

Thanks. The stockers do have drain screws. What I do on my ride back home, is I shut off the gas once off the main streets and just make it into the garage. Usually won't idle past a minute after that since the bowls are empty. Probably not the smartest thing to do :-\

Star-Tron came up a lot when searching but again, it doesn't solve the moisture absorption issue which typically causes corrosion. Have you tried leaving it in for a while on a regular running bike with carbs? I'm just curious if it actually kept that nasty white powdery crap from forming in the carbs...

That's what I do (did) also. Nothing wrong with it in my book, and keeps any fuel mishap from occurring while parked.

Ed, Guys,

I just posted up an article I wrote and researched for our old bikes. At the end, you'll see that I choose Yamaha's storage conditioner and tell you why -

Wow! Thanks Gordon, pretty detailed and informative. I knew of Fuel Med RX via a conversation a long time ago between Mike Rieck/JMR and Lisa/Mooshie. I haven't found that thread yet, but once JMR highlighted that FM address both major issues, it was pretty much engraved in my head, and that's how I remembered to go with it.

Yea, when you think about what Yamaha puts on the line compared to Star-Tron and Stabil. These last two give your purchase price back - Yamaha replaces the engine, boat, waverunner, snowmobile, motorcycle, or ATV.

My money and bet is on Yamaha getting it "Right".

Interesting topic.

Dorothy, I would shut fuel on half a mile from home and she would run the same, while K3F goes to higher rpms with fuel shut off - I turned her off first, than the fuel.  I guess that's the difference between stock air filter and DIY.

I like to have normal idle when I put the foot down in the driveway to glance at the oil pressure gauge and see all is well and around 20 psi.  Could be my OCD kicking in, lol?

Turning off the petcock doesn't empty the bowl, it just lowers fuel below the float enough so the motor starves. Drain the bowl afterwards to get all the fuel (if you opt to store "dry"). A full bowl actually promotes less evaporation/corrosion than a low level. Plus, some believe it's better to leave the carbs wet for prolonged storage to keep seals and o-rings saturated to prevent dehydration and dry rotting.

Another option is to run highly saturated fuel and leave it in the tank and bowls for storage.

Many ideas, many approaches, lots of different experiences. Popcorn ready yet???  :)

I'm happy for you man, just watch yourself and NEVER leave without your gear, even for a 2% milk run to the 7/11 two blocks over.

I can't believe its November and we're seeing days in the high 60s. Hoping to get another long ride in tomorrow after work, possibly a couple more in the next week or so. Then, its hibernation time :(

BOTY voting has begun fellas, and quite a line up this year, definitely check it out and vote!

53F and sunny so I went out on my usual ride, Belstaff jacket is plenty to stay warm but the jeans didn't cut it, legs damn near froze off early on, but once the engine warmed up I was actually relieved on seeing a red light so I could stop and warm up ;D ;D It was one fun cold-ass ride (nowhere near as some of the hardcore Dec rides of others, but a first for me). Forecast shows next Sunday to be similarly clear and sunny but cold, not bad for Nov. 920 miles, so hoping my next 90 miler will roll it past 1000, then I can winterize it.

Quick Q: Yay or nay on using EMGO oil filter?

Stopped by my local motorcycle shop to pick up some Spectro, same one where the guy was just blown away looking at my K2 :) Picked up the oil and he insisted I take the EMGO filter too. I can't remember exactly but I recall there being some issue with those? I couldn't say no to the guy, he was just too happy ;D ;D

Also, he finished up his 76SS (with spoked wheels), and I gotta say I love the color. Couldn't get a good pic as it was small shop and no room to move far back. He also has a nice Z1 with a yoshi pipe on it too. He wants 4K for the SS which is mostly original. I was too afraid to ask the price of that Z1 ;D

I have used Emgo filters for years, as they are in stock at my local independant shop,  They seem to work ok.  The center grommets dont fit that tight, so you have to be careful not to push them out when sliding the center bolt through.
If it works good, it looks good...

Have to be honest and agree with Cal...I would not put an Emgo filter on my bike either. Always stick with the OEM brand and quality. I thought there was a thread on here a few years back that a member cut one apart and it was pretty minimal quality in the filter folds. With the amount of $$$ and OEM parts you put into that bike why take a chance and save a couple bucks on an oil filter. Just saying'...

+1 Emgo = CCC (cheap chinese crap)

Mo - I'm a little disappointed, you're asking us of it's ok to put aftermarket filter on the famous NOS bike?!

Want me to send you a Honda filter?

Haha thanks guys ;D

@Johnie, that's exactly the thread I was thinking of but couldn't remember, which is why I thought I'd ask first.

@Stev-o I really didn't wan't it but the shop guy was too happy and I didn't wanna bum him out, so I just took it. Thanks for the offer though!

I'll just get me a bunch of the OE ones, they aren't that much and I know the K3 break in will go through a few ;D For now, I'll just have to find a polite way to return the EMGO and not ask for a refund...
