Farthest distance in one day
« on: November 06, 2013, 02:15:02 PM »
Just read the "first long ride" topic and did not want to hijack it. What is the farthest you have rode in one day? Mine (a long time ago) was 750 miles in 10 total hours on my 750K2. Stopped to eat twice. Cruised at 95-100 all day long. Yes, I was tired. Dan

Could not have ate more than a few minutes to average 75 mph for 10 hours straight.

Summer of 1983: 1,190 miles in 21 hours (all Autobahn) with my CB 750 from Barcelona harbor (coming from Ibiza) to West Berlin (having to go through East Germany, being with Berlin Brigade), and with my wife as a passenger.

I thought I lost it, but:

October 2013: 960 miles in 17 hours with my BMW RR from the U.S. Regional Medical Center in Landstuhl, Germany, to Aosta, Italy (mostly Autobahn but also driving the Grande Saint Bernhard Pass) and back due to a failing exhaust cam shaft (the intake cam shaft had been replaced three months earlier).

20 miles. Epic run to Zippy's Gas Mart for Ex-Lax. My constipation fueled my legendary journey.

Not sure of actual mileage (1800 +/- a few miles), but my first long trip (on my first bike, a 1988 Honda Shadow- great bike!) was from Sacramento to Minneapolis with a friend for another friend's wedding.  My buddy stayed and I made it back to CA in 2.5 days, as I had nothing better to do than ride.  Roughly 750 miles each day for 2 days, then the remainder on the 3rd day.  I loved that trip!

Peace,

About 380 miles, the round trip to my Dad's, which I have made 5 or 6 times via motorcycle over the past 3 years.

It was my Montreal-Vancouver excursion and I was in a hurry to reconnect with my girfriend that had moved out five months earlier! This was in 1975, I was twenty, horny, & still had a strong back!  ;D

890 in one day but it was on a V-Strom so it was pretty easy. Baltimore to Dallas on a Wednesday-Thursday then back to Baltimore Saturday-Sunday. Just under 3k round trip. That was fun.

You must have taken a lot of breaks to only average 56.6 miles a hour at Autobahn speeds of 100 MPH+???

There are constantly toll stations on the Spanish and French Autobahn. And while there is generally no speed limit in Germany, most Autobahns have only two lanes. At times, you are happy to go 30 miles an hour, passing the backed up traffic on the very right. The word "Stau" is one German word everyone knows who is stationed here. And, if it is clear, you have situations were 200 mph meets 70 mph. Finally, going to West Berlin, you had to stop (paperwork involved)  at our checkpoints (checkpoint Alpha and Bravo), as well as at the Russian checkpoints when entering and leaving East Germany. You can never make up for the time you lose at these stops.
My BMW motorcycle goes about 190 mph before the limiter kicks in--although I usually limit my travel speed to 150 mph. Still, I always need at least (!) one hour for 100 miles of German Autobahn. Now if I would have it all to myself...
Gas stops with my 77 Honda at 100 mph are about every 110-120 miles. Drop the speed 20 mph, and it will go considerably longer.

I have been to Bitxxche several times with my 750 Honda since I live only about 90 minutes away, and it is a beautiful ride (I love Europe: 30 minutes, and I am in another country). It has a very impressive citadel. It isn't too far from the Maginot Line either. Google it and you find some interesting historical facts. I would like to post a link but the software used here does not permit. Just replace "XXX" with "che" and it works. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BitXXX

I did the Iron Butt Saddle sore ride on my Vespa. 1000 miles in 24 hours or less. I did 1024 miles in 19 hours. All documented. I also once did about 1500 miles in 36 hours undocumented.
Ride it like you stole it from your ex-wife's new husband.

Right around 1150 miles...   Alberta Canada back into Colorado Springs.   Seemed like it took forever.  5am to midnight or a little after.

Had the 'ol girl just about pegged through Montana.    Pretty sure I will never ever do that distance again.
Yep, I'm the kid that figured out how to put things back together...eventually.
