Well, Phase 1 is essentially finished.  I just need to clean up the bird's nest in the headlight bucket to make room for the new headlight.  I have new LED turn signals wired up correctly now.  Of course, they do not flash - they stay on when switched.  So either I need in-line diodes or replace the thermal flasher relay with an electric one.  Which is the better way to go?

While waiting for the custom 4-2-1 pipes to be finished, I stuck back on the GPWerks exhaust so I can ride.  It runs a bit rough until warmed up.  So Blaster will get a tune-up - points, valve adjust, carbs cleaning (the float valves were sticking a bit) and synch, etc.  I haven't really pushed it yet, but it handles better than I anticipated on my mountain roads.  It's fairly "lively" and I like the feel of the 110/130 Bridgestones.  Not a "lean machine" like the 550, but no complaints.

Once I complete the 550 build, my plan is to pull the engine for a 836/Stage III balance/rebuild.

I'm pretty sure it's a House of Kolor light blue custom mixed by eye with some grey and another blue.  My paint guy freestyle mixes.  I show him a color I like and he tries to match it.

I'm after a similar color for a K model i have...Shouldn't be too hard a color to mix.. ;)

You could probably go either way on the flasher. Since the electric relay doesn't rely on thermal reaction, I'd say that's probably the easiest. Why fake out the wrong type of flasher? 

I didn't read - is this bike stock wiring?

836 in a 550? Does that mean you're gonna use a 750 head er?  (I don't even know if that's possible...)

Absolutely beautiful bike. Ya'll do some killer werk up there.

Told 2 more weeks.  The GP Werks pipes have the exact sound I wanted.  They will have to sell as "used" now.

I am loving ridng this bike.  My only little annoyance is that with the Tarozzi low-rise clipons, the angle is too perpendicular to the bike in order to keep the fork tube clamp from hitting the tank.  I think I may use another set of clipons to sweep back the bars a bit more.

I finally installed a new flasher relay (dumping the thermal one which is on the ground) and now the LED turn signals work great!  All I have to do now is slap the headlight back into the bucket.

You've built a real stunner there! Am particularly taken with the paint scheme and execution of it. Some bikes just look "better" with stripes, and some don't manage them well. The 750 seems to look best (to my eye) with a bit of stripes on it. One of my all time bikes from this forum right there!

Thank you, Cal.  Given some of the builds here, that is quite a compliment. But all I've really done is slightly fab a seat, paint, and slap on a bunch of shiny new parts.  Lucky to have gotten a great starter bike and ideas from sohc4.

Put on new clipons.  They are about 2" lower than the low-rise Tarozzis, but the swept back angle of the bars more than makes up for it.  For me, it's a very comfortable riding position with the Tarozzi rearsets.  I think they are a keeper.  The edge of the clipon tube clamp does hit the tank before the head tube stops, so I will have to be a bit careful.  Should not be a factor when riding; only when maneuvering off the side stand.

I live by the adage "#$%* happens" and I'd be waiting for that dented tank moment! Forgive me but could you drill & tap a hole for a short 5mm screw in the lower triple steering stop to limit travel to at least make me feel better?  ;D

A proper steering damper won't limit fork lock to lock.

The tapping the lower tree lug and screwing in a 5mm (I used a 4mm) screw works great, I have done it.

Hey K, don't hate us man! I know it's hard to go back & redo things just when you think you're finished. As you know with custom work it takes lots of this stepping backwards before they're completely finished.

Or just go ride it as is, we'll all survive.  ;)

Appreciate the clarification, but I'm already aware of their abilities and limits. It was a suggestion to help protect the tank as in everyday use. Perhaps I should have been more specific in the intent of my advice.
