Double final chain.......and a new project 750 K0

Picked up another CB750 K0 that comes with a double final chain.

Heared about that but never seen it.

Was this a common conversion in those days?

Eagle landed last week.
Been  in a farmers barn somewhere  in the Black Forrest, out of use since 1977.

Hi. The double row chain was offered in the 1970's to try to remedy breaking chains on the CB750.I would say they are an unnecessary power robbing option now as any premium 530 chain of today will handle any amount of power these bikes can muster.

The First 750 Honda I bought in 1979 had the double row chain and sprocket, they were common at the time, I remember seeing them at my local bike shop back then... ;)

What serial number ?...dont need last three numbers.

VIN is 160xx
So when was it made aprox. (there are no production stickers on German KO)?

That orange stripe was poorly made by the previous owner.

I think I can mount the genuine lamp holder and still use that Habermann handle bars (like them).
If so, you will get the clamps.

They will come with an old Ceriani sticker, mate.

Nice 8) Looks in good shape. How did you find it Sgt. Those KO side covers and air box look mint. If you decide to part this thing out I sure could use that KO air box. Just joking of course ;) I thought I knew the old Honda's pretty well but the double chain is new one on me. My original KO pipes are stamped HM300 only on all 4 pipes. My K4 and K6 pipes are stamped HMCB750 SR341,SL341, lR341, and lL341. But yours are only HMCB750. Is the HM300 stamp on the pipe but in a different area. Sgt. is your daughter going to want this bike once you get it back on the road ;D

The right hand side cover has been painted and does not match to the rest.

The upper airfilter box has the usual cracks.

regarding pipes:

German, Netherland (and France?)  K0 and K1 had "HMCB750" pipes.
Hard to find, as only 503 in total CB750 had been sold in Germany in the years 1969/1970 (K0 and K1).
I assume in Netherland even less.


Sound is similar to "HM300" but baffles dont fit. Hard to find. I am lucky to have a apare set of HMCB750 baffles

I like the double color.

I would just clean it well and kept it like this, original patina is great.

Next weekend I'll start cleaning. But how do I get this engine clean?

Started cleaning.
Had a rough cleaning of the engine with a little Kärcher.
Put the pipes off.
Polished some "8" srews and nuts.  Learned, there are marks on the nuts.
Started to un-rust the fuel tank.

Sgt. the condition of those pipes look almost identical to the 341's that were on my K4. My pipes were solid just years of baked on oil and crud. A lot of elbow grease on cleaning and came out looking almost new ;) Im sure yours will to.

My wife gave me a great household product to get that grime off.

4 hors later, only little elbow grease, looks reasonable.

No. 4 pipe seems to have suffered from acid. I assume, that came from the battery.

If you look in the Honda parts manual the German spec  K0 exhausts had a different part number to USA or GB bikes. Probably something to do with emission control. The carb jet needles are different part numbers too.

As said the pipes are "HMCB750" and different to "HM300" and therefore have other part numbers.

As far as I know needles are different due to long high speed possibility on Autobahn.

And the "guess what" answer from me is;  Where is the Cotter Pin on the Axle Nut?????  and What is that Cap Nut on the Brake Rod supposed  to do???  :)  :)

That's funny.... I couldn't imagine ever breaking a chain, they were really made that terrible? I did fracture a master link on a dt175 once but that was an old chain.

She gave me that cleaner. Normally, we clean the glass of our oven. That plus very fine steel wool did the job. Very easy!

The item I meant is that early KO chain tensioner (without hole).

Does anybody know until which VIN they used those?

Finished cleaning the pipes.

Certainly not perfect but I wont find new ones and this will not become a showroom bike.
