Sweet!  From what I've been told, the sleeves drop out if you heat (bake) the block.  No need to press.

I think what you're calling "the head" might be what's called the cylinder 'block' which includes all 4) liners and the outer aluminum part w/ all the fins,correct?

D'oh! Slip of the tongue, sorry.  Block is what I mean.

Sweet!  From what I've been told, the sleeves drop out if you heat (bake) the block.  No need to press.



I've only replaced sleeves in 2 strokes and every one I ever did had to be pressed.  I would have to have a definite commitment to buy before I take apart the cylinder...Larry

Larry, that works for me!  I'll still allow sbeckman first dibs as this is his thread.  But if he's okay with it I'll happily take two.  Are you able to mic the I.D. of the sleeves so I can ensure fitment?  I'm looking for ~1.85" (47mm) I.D, the STD bore.  Thanks so much for your help!

Do not have a bore gauge or an inner mike but I do know they are stock as I have the pistons.  There will be enough sleeves for both of you, at least there should be.

Gotcha.  Thanks sbeckman!  I'll snag two sleeves from Larry.  Try not to get too down about your cylinders...I know I did for a bit but you just have to keep trucking!  It'll all be worth it in the end, and the uncertainties are really half the fun :) though maybe not for the wallet  ;)

I went down this road a few weeks ago.  Opted OEM and tracked down a set.  They were pricy and hard to find, but so far I'm glad I did.  I can't speak either way about the eBay set.  It could turn out to be a huge money saver and just fine for the quality.  Or, it could lead to your bike constantly pumping oil and giving low compression figures.  I wanted to guarantee my work was worthwhile, so I bit the bullet and went OEM.  IF you can find them, I wouldn't hesitate to purchase.  I had success searching for the part number (13101333010) on Honda dealers websites.  Sometimes they have old stock lying around.  EBay showed a few as well.

This isn't to make you feel either way about either set of rings.  I just wanted to bring you along my thought process and where it got me.  Only time will tell if I made the right choice.  Good luck :) and let me know if you need any help!

Good finds!  Interested to see what Hastings has to say.  Could save yourself some $$$ going this route.

Thanks man, I'll let you know.  It's been a while since anything happened over here but sometimes making money is more important than spending it  ;D  I just left a message with the tech at Hastings Pistons to see what they charge for a set for the 350F.  She gets back on Wednesday so I have to wait until then for an answer.  If it's a large amount I'll say f**k it and go the eBay route.  What's the worst that could happen?  ;)

I have no personal experience, but piston & ring kits from cruizin image have been used quite a bit by 750 owners here, as well as  500/550's & other models. From what people have written, they seem like decent quality.

Last night I decided to just go ahead and order the eBay rings; they should be here in 1-2 weeks.  In the meantime, I'm working on another exhaust option.  The MotoGPWerks Yoshi Replica is no longer an option as I learned after the exhaust was completed that the actual price is $500 and not the $100 listed on the website... That was a real bummer but it gives me the option to take a much quieter route, which I think I'll enjoy after riding the loud Triumph for a few months now.  I know I still want a 4-1 so I'm thinking the MAC header and muffler for the time being, but ultimately I may look at different muffler options.

Back in the garage and it feels great  :D   Look what came yesterday:


I began installing them this afternoon when a question popped up.  On the packet it says to instal rings with the marked side facing up (both compression rings have a "T" stamped on them, no "R's" to speak of) so I did that, but the two compression rings themselves are noticeably different.  One is all black and is more "expanded," and the other has a silver coating on the outside and is more closed.  I figured the all black one would be the top ring as it will have the most compression force, explaining why its slightly more open when uninstalled.  Do you guys buy that?

Also, I re-honed the cylinder with the scratches in it.  After a few more passes the scratches are visible but I can't really feel them with my fingernail so I'm going to say it's ok.  Measurement of the new rings after the hone is impressive with 0.3mm end gap!
