My first CB 750f project has started

True.  The blasting soda was very effective compared to the stuff I sampled with the Arm and Hammer.  What a mess.   :)

The paint went like this.  Body work, primer...sand...primer...sand. Final sand with 500gt.  Then sealer, wet on wet.  Sprayed the black first.  Masked off the areas to remain black.  But started with masking off the 1 inch wide stripe that pretty much encapsulates the dark charcoal mini flake mix.  After that stripe was masked off, I then went in and taped off the large field of dark charcoal M/F mix.  Then I sprayed a ground coat of grey over everything.  Sanded with 800 wet to take dirt nibs out.  Mixed up a batch of silver with heavy alum flake and added about 3oz of silver miniflake.  Reduced 2:1 and sprayed two coats till covered over areas needed.  Let flash off for 15 minutes.  Then mixed up a batch of large as bass boat silver flake and mini flake to add a bit more depth.  Mixed it with PPG DBC 500 and reduced 1;1 with medium reducer.  Then proceeded to spray over the silver two wet coats and then a light dusting backed off the surface to get the flake to stand up a bit.  Let dry over night.  Next day, unmasked the larger area protecting the charcoal M/F mix, leaving the black stripe in place.  Then I masked off the silver and protected it and sprayed in the charcoal.  Then I removed all of the tape on the sheetmetal.  Then masked the red stripe that exists in the middle of the larger black stripe.  Airbrushed it in with HOK roman red striping urethane.  Then it all went back into booth and was cleared 3 wet coats of high solids urethane to help lock down the topography that flake gives you after it's binder recedes.   I let the first round of clear dry a week, then sanded with 500 and recleared with 3 more wet coats.

Tonight the motor is in...Time to get busy drinking beer and losing tools.

Thanks Shawn.  It feels good to be this far.  The electrical has me feeling like i did  when I started the lacing.  A bit unsure and hesitant.

You'll figure it out.  It's not that hard to wire one of these bikes.  Just take your time and test as you go along.

I am debating if I should start from scratch or start with harness.

Tonight I went around bike  figuring what hardware went where and went through all my reference photos.  Unfortunately, I didn't take one of reAr master and pedal assembly.

I pick up wheels tomorrow.

I think your shock covers could use some black..but either with masked off diamond running up and down, or dots...  Jmo..

I am not going to put any more effort into the shocks until I decide if I like how they ride or not.  But I agree.  Original plans were to powder coat springs and cover black

Rear wheel installed only to find out that the O ring chain I have had no master link.  . So now I need to remove the entire rear and swing arm assembly on order to install chain.

I think I will just cut the chain and install a master link.  I really do not see any benefit for my running a chain with out a way to take it off when needed, with out dis assembling the entire rear.....

This eve, I mounted front wheel and started on the brake plumbing.  I pressed out metal center of the speedo drive and used that as the spacer on that side of the wheel instead of spending the 30 some for the billet spacer.  That's ok.  Call me cheap.

Hey Bud...No speedo...Yet.  Not going to run a mechanical one anyway.  I rode for almost 20 years with out one on my FXR.   I have a long beard and can tell how fast I am going by how badly it is #$%* slapping me.  In fact the FXR didn't even have turn signals.  :)

Take a closer look at the tail section it is right under the rear.

I've had to replace the speedo on my bobber about four or five times in the last ten years.  I've ridden a lot of miles without a working speedo.  I could tell how fast I was going by what gear I was in and the sound of the engine and the wind in my ears.  The bobber never had turn signals and neither does the CB750.

I couldn't tell if that was a tail light or the mounting surface on the frame?  Is it a blacked out tail light?

Nothing that I have done, but it is a darker plastic.  It is bright as day lit up.

I am fabricating one that will be apart of chain guard. If I do not like that, I will make one that mounts off shock.

Nice!  Mounting a plate is always the part that kills me.  Take a great looking rear end and gotta stick a plate on it

Totally agree with that.  Thank God the plates aren't the size of regular auto plates.   :)  Either way I go with, will be vertical with out any lighting.

ugh, I hadn't even considered a plate... I'll probably just keep it in a backpack and tell the officer I was on my way home to put it on (every time I get pulled over)

Your bike is coming together really nicely!
If you can't fix it with a hammer, it's an electrical problem... If it's an electrical problem, it's Cal's problem.

You don't have to have a license plate light in CO?  You get a ticket for that in Texas.  In fact my cousin got a ticket for no plate light after I warned him.

While not on a motorcycle at the time thankfully, had 50-70mph gusting crosswinds south of Tucson to Benson, AZ travelling SW to S direction. Was stopped by State Trooper because of lack of license light. Was needing some bushing work on the car and was being blown by the gusts and he probably suspected me of being drunk.  Saw where he came out off the ramp but didn't realize he was on the ramp until later. He gave me a fix it ticket, no fine if you turned in evidence of fixing vehicle violation within 7 days and submitted evidence to St Trooper post/office or mailed it in. He was nice and it was blowing sand and other crap and nearly everyone was getting blown all over the road.
Not even an hour later I was pulled over by Huachuca City Police, overly aggressive police known for speed traps and tickets for anything and everything. He was going to write me up and ticket me for the license plate light. But I had the warning ticket earlier that got me out of a ticket requiring me to pay!
With modern LEDs you can put a couple LED strip lights of 3 LEDs on a bracket over the top of the plate and it will be lit up like daylight. Small gauge wires in a good water-resistant sleeve can be traced back along inside of swing arm or under swing arm where it can be hidden, made less obvious.

They make weather resistant strip LED lights that can be cut every three LEDs to whatever length you need and comes in various colors, white, blue, etc.   Some states have restrictions on height of plates above the ground, so find out the laws for your state, lest any zealous/over-zealous police officer decide to add to the revenue stream for the state/locality.  These height regulations I don't think can be enforced on out of state bikes when you don't live in that state. They may ticket you for it and only way to defeat is with appearance, the bank on fact you won't be returning to fight it.
David- back in the desert SW!
