Decided to go with satin black anodised for the hubs. Would have loved to keep them raw but would only look good for a week. And now the fun starts. Will post again once I've finished lacing. Let's see how long this takes :-).

In the future if you want to keep the finished look you can get them powdercoated with Prismatic Clear Vision.

Which headlight holders are those, the ones from Cognito?

Thanks for the tip on the clear. Will keep it in mind for the next one. The headlight bracket is LSL. 48mm top and 50mm bottom. I'm using the BPF Suzuki fork and they are tapered where the brackets fit so had to go with the offset.

Had my exhaust turn up today. That's the last bit I've been waiting on so full steam ahead on the mock up. Starting to come together. Broke the forks down yesterday to get the outers re anodised. Turn around was same day. Now that's quick. Will put the forks back together this weekend. Finished lacing the Back wheel last night. Will get the tires on next week so can get this thing to stand up by itself. That will be a milestone. I'm just in discussions with a vehicle certifier who needs to see the frame welds before I get it powder coated. Can't get it registered unless he's happy. Hope he's in a good mood. It's a bit of a pain as the closest certifier is 150 miles away so a road trip will be coming up.

Brackets done for the cycle X coils. I really like how versatile these old girls are. Just took the original brackets and turned them upside down and bolts up perfectly to the new coil platform. Just figuring out the electrics. Battery is a bit of a worry still. If I do a cutout in the seat base then it will fit. I need about an inch. There maybe room under the tank but will see once I place motor back in the frame.

Coming along!  Few questions.  I may have missed it or I'm just missing the obvious, but why did you decide to go with new coils?  And which brand exhaust is that?  Looks like it uses the stock collars?

Hi Durango
As the motor is getting a large dose of go fast bits Ive replaced all the ignition and coils as an upgrade. I'm using the power arc electronic ignition which I have used before. It's a fantastic bit of gear that once set never needs touching. I have used both dyna and power arc before and find the power arc set up first rate.
The exhaust is from Lossa engineering. The collars are welded on which is a bit of a pain as I'm getting them ceramic coated and the flanges can't be removed without a grinder.

Finally decided on making some room under the seat. The hump is only 1 inch and will be hidden by the placement of the number plate and rear tail light. Will weld sides and ends on and will make a nice wee pocket for the battery. Placed the major electrical components in the back end of the bike. The new motogadget requires a bit of height compared to the older unit. Wires go in the top rather than the sides like there older unit. I think I prefer the wires in the side but we will see how it works out.

One of those 2 steps forward and 3 back sorta weeks. Took fork outers, hubs, fork brackets rear set mounts to be anodised. Haven't used this shop before. I was a bit nervous after talking to them but heart over ruled the head. Went to pick them up and they looked nice in the box. Once I was home picked up the fork outers and they were all "sticky" fork triple clamps weren't any good either. Took them back to be redone. Finished lacing and true ini the wheels. Had to cut down a few spokes to make it all neat. I have an old motor that I threw into the frame so I could mock up the exhaust and get the hanger bracket sorted. I like the look of the exhaust. Should sound nice. :-) a couple more brackets to finish off then can break it all back down and get ready for powder.

One of the things that peeves me on my bikes is when the battery goes flat and having to pull the seat off to get to the battery so I've put a tender plug onto this one. I'm going to tell everyone that asks what it is that's it to download the telemetry. That should get them scratching their heads.  8)

After doing some maintenance on my bike with a mud guard in the same position as your logo plate, you might want to consider making that a removable piece.  I was glad mine was when removing and replacing the carbs a few times while tuning.

Looking sweet.

Tail light location being calculated to the mm. Left a bit, a bit more. Hold it. I'm just going to get a beer and look at it for a while. Those things hurt when they hit you in the forehead. Hard to get good help when your creating
You've got exposed frame tubes think of doing something like this to keep the rear lines clean?

I've not the talent to do it, but I wanted to french in these - it ended up more vertical and more overlap than I wanted but it came out OK.

Because I've cut the backend off and redone the subframe I had to add rigidity to keep the compliance inspector happy. I have a set of cr26 carbies to go on and they slip in and out easily with the plate in place. I agree with the back tubes. Still working on a solution to cover them up. Number plate holder hides a lot but from the sides I can still see them. Will need to get creative I think!!

Re: drenching in your tail lights...

Get a hole saw the proper diameter. Drill the hole(s) you need. Then get or make a dimple die the needed size. Punch the hole with the dimple die. This creates the recess, you can then fab up a housing from some round tubing and flat plate (so your light will sit in it's own bucket) and drill a hole for the wiring to pass through.

From what I've seen, you have ample talent, but perhaps not the experience to steal other's ideas on making these types of "elements"  ;)

Yep I thought about frenching and played around with card board tubes of all shapes and sizes but the taillight I chose just wouldn't match the curve of the seat. If I used it it would keep me awake at night!!!

Got the battery recess finished. Turned out good and is well hidden by number plate holder. Started work on the rear set brackets to get the master cylinder upright. Still waiting on my fork tubes to be re anodised. Another week they tell me. Got plenty of bits and pieces to carry on with.

Rear sets mock up and no the screw driver isn't a design feature that I will be keeping. Just making up a new threaded shaft as the std bolt is too short by 30mm. Exhaust hanger will come off this point as well. Will give a good sturdy hold to the back of the exhaust.  Just hunting around for some exhaust springs to hold the slip on in place.

I want to fit a later model flush gas cap. Found a wrecked donor tank from a cbr250 and cut out the recess. It looks like it will fit into the cb650 tank really nicely. the lines on the top of the tank match up really nicely with the cap. The donor tank had a pipe from under the recess going to base of the tank where an overflow tube was fitted. I'm just going to block this off. The cap is vented so shouldn't be required. Will leave the top hole in place for any overfill. The only part I'm a bit nervous about is the need to reline the tank. I've been reading up on por15 and there seems to be a lot of failures. Granted there is a common thread relating to preparation issues but still not sure. Is there any recommendations other than por15 ???

Head returned from being machined so was able to get everything buttoned up. Checked valve clearances as I have the 1mm oversize valves in this head.  Degreed the cam. all looking good. Fitted external oil lines. Engine has turned out nice. So it's back to the frame to finish off a couple of bits then final breakdown for paint and powder. Getting closer.

a bit of a hold up for the last few weeks. I took my fork outer tubes in to be re anodised in black. They were gold but wanted black to match all the other black that I have happening. They had to do them twice as the 1st try was all sticky and a weird color. Picked them up after a second try and they looked perfect. Got them home and started to put them back together and found they had mysteriously expanded. The top caps wobbled in the threads and the seals would fall out!!!! A bit of discussion with the shop and they paid for 2 new outers. 3 weeks wait for them to arrive and we are underway again. Frame all broken down and ready for powder.

2012 GSXR BPF conversion all fitted up. Cognito Moto top clamp. Everything bolted up nicely. Onto the swing arm. Inner shaft is tight in the bronze bearings. Nothing in the service manual about clearances. Anyone know what the clearance should be?

Looking good there.....

There are specs in the manual for rear swing arm pivot if you look closer...specs for the collar diameter and internal bush diameter, you need a bore gauge to measure the inside correctly though.

I posted this in someone else's thread a few weeks ago...

http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php/topic,171903.msg2001361.html#msg2001361

If its tight that's a good thing, you can use a small brake cylinder hone to resize once fitted...they may just be slightly out of round after being pressed in also...clearance ive been told to shoot for 0.01-0.025mm.

I ended up having to buy a new collar which gave me a loose fit with those bronze bushes....resorted to making my own bushes out of bronze...was still a bit of trial and error getting a good fit once pressed in.
