Yes, if...........
No after market cold air intake (needs to have a C.A.R.B. number). Any changes on the intake/exhaust require a Calif. Air Resource Board approval number that is specific for that part on that vehicle. Drop in air filters are not a problem.

A friend took his Escalade in with a cold air intake and FAILED. Same motor and setup as a bazillion Silverado pick ups and Suburbans, but was never "tested" to see if it would work on an Escalade. Go figure 😕 . That's commiefornia for ya,eh comrad!

One other thing, in Calif. you can't get a loaner code reader at the auto parts store, some Buford at ASE screwed that up. If you get the codes read before you take it in you will know if they all cleared. Ask the smog shop to throw a code read on it before they put it on the test equipment,  most will do that for you because they don't want it to fail either.  Most smog shops are test only and cannot touch any adjustments by law.

The only auto parts that can currently read codes for you is Auto Zone. They lend you a reader then you take it back into the store and they hook it up tu a computer and then it will spill the beans. They will also give you a print out.

Santa Maria should be easy to pass, they are kinda new to require tests.

I could go on and on about smog crap in this state,  it Pisses me off............and this is the wrong thread for that!

Good luck Scottly,  you should do fine.

My nephew bought a used Toyota Tundra from the dealer with headers and a cold air intake, and when it was time for a smog check, he took it to a "Star" facility. They rejected it on the visual inspection due to the cold air intake because it didn't have a CARB sticker. He took it to a test only station, where it passed. If a dealer sold the car, it would have have to have been a legal mod.
Actually, CA has lightened up in some areas; cars older than 1975 or so are now exempt, while in PHX only cars older than '66 are exempt??
Do you remember the retroactive smog law in the '70s? It required cars as old as '55 to have smog equipment added. There were two types of kits: one had a thermostatic valve installed in the upper radiator hose that disabled the distributor vacuum advance until the engine reached operating temp, and the other "affordable" kit consisted of a rubber cap to block off the vacuum port, and a decal that went on the speedometer that read "Caution do not drive over 55 MPH or engine damage may result" ::)

One rear wheel pad slap in the driveway with hand tools, since it was only ten degrees out, and the other wheels are quiet, then broke a stud off at the end of the project.
Checked the power steering pump for fluid, found plenty with lots of bubbles.  Asked my son, who drives the car ('02 v-6 Alero) how long has it been making these (associated) noises? "What noises." Oh yeah, you can't hear them cuz you ride with the stereo cranked all the time!  "Do you want to fix these problems, or just drive it into the ground?" There was a long pause, and a sort of grunted answer in the affirmative for future repairs.
Not gonna bother with the pissed off thread, it's par for the course!

I remember when I got my first car in 1974...a 69 Chevelle SS396. I took it to a guy in our neighborhood that always helped me and my friends out with our mechanical problems. I told him the Chevelle seemed to have less power than it should. This was in San Jose, Ca. He said they had put some kind of kit on it (probably what you're talking about Scottly). I don't recall exactly what he did but he moved some hoses around and put a BB in one hose. He said what he did was bypass the kit but left it there for visual compliance. Then he put the timing back to where it should be and told me to go try it. The difference was like night & day.

Yep, I had a 1974 Aussie built Ford XB GS Falcon with a 302 Cleveland engine and no "Anti-Pollution" piping fitted, and it went like stink. I "Upgraded" to a 1978 GXL Fairmont with 351, expecting more scary fun, and was sorely disappointed.

Absolutely gutless compared to the smaller 302. I swapped it for a 4 cylinder Datsun for the wife, which felt about the same power-wise as the strangled 351, albeit with much better fuel economy.

Eventually I bought a 1971 Ford XY GS Futura with a worked 4V 351, and life was good. (I wish I still had it) ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

Here's a nice one that the owner of a smog shop back in Modesto, Ca. owned a couple of years back.

Those hood stripes are for the '70 model right?  Most '69's that I've seen recently dont have them.

Rumor has it that the 396 big block actually put out more than 375hp, Chevy was purposely under rating them for insurance reasons [thought they would lose customers if premiums were very high].

I read that on the internet so it must be true!

I drove the new-to-me Chevy Sonic the 600+ miles from Santa Maria to Humboldt today. ;D
I drove the Civic to SM on Thursday, and put the scanner on it when I got to my Mom's house: no codes, all monitors including evap reset, and a green LED. Nephew Kyle and I went to a smog check place, and got a cert in exchange for a $50 bill. Next stop was AAA for the title transfer and reg. Everything went smoothly until after the physical inspection of the VIN and odometer reading, when the gal asked I pop the hood. She looks and says there is supposed to be an emissions sticker under the hood, and the CHP will have to sign off on it. (The sticker is most likely missing from collision repair before I owned it.)
Kyle took the car to the CHP, and the guy that does the inspections was downright pissed off; not at Kyle, but at AAA because they keep sending people to him with such crap!! Since AAA produced a form, the CHP guy has to address it officially, and he wasn't able to do it Friday. He reassured Kyle he would get him squared away tomorrow, and he will put a stop to the AAA nonsense once and for all. ;D

I'm not sure how it is now, but it used to be no cost to get the sticker from the dealer. Might want to check into that.

Congrats on passing the smog test..............and you didn't even have to study for it!😆

I'm thinking about replacing the spark plugs in the wife's Hyundai. I haven't changed them in the 17 years that I've owned the car, and I doubt if they were changed in the first 5 years of it's life before I owned it, because the PO only had one oil change conducted in 60,000 miles.

It's developed a little bit of a stutter off idle so I'm a tad disappointed that the plugs have sh@t themselves after only 22 years and 160,000 miles, but I guess that'll teach me for buying a cheap import........... ;D

Actually, I had to do quite a bit of studying for the test! ;D
Kyle talked to the CHP guy today, who told him to go back to AAA; they were waiting for him. He got his plates and an apology! I mentioned about getting a sticker from Honda, and he had found the same thing online. It may or may not help the next time a cert is needed?
I took the Sonic in today and got AZ reg and plate; they don't even require a VIN inspection anymore when a vehicle is transferred to AZ, especially when it comes from CA!! The clerk told me that CA is so nit-picky, there is no reason to question the VIN. ::)

Changed the oil and filter in both my wife's T&C and my Taco.

Bought the 5 qt jugs from Orielly's, went to open the jug and it was used oil.

Took it back, and they accused me of trying to get one over on them......sheesh..!!!!

They came though and gave me another jug.

Good thing I didn't drain the oil in both vehicles at the time, used to wife's van to go back.

My CJ7 Jeep is back on the road.  I finished rebuilding the steering column, you have no idea what a pain  in the arse is to replace bearings in tilting steering column.

it used to be the great aussie tradition to use old oil to paint the wooden fence with, the oil would soak into the wood and preserveit, the carbon would stay on the surface and wash off , soak into the soil and kill off all the grass that you couldn't mow along the fence line, win win

Yeah mate, when I was a kid I went to a Catholic primary school, and remember watching an old homeless dude painting the school fences with sump oil. The nuns used to look after him and give him food and shelter in return for his labour. It must have worked pretty well, I don't ever remember seeing them replace those fences right up to when I left town to join the Army.

The good thing about recycling old sump oil is they can make .8 litre of diesel out of every litre of sump oil, so I can blow clouds of black smoke all over greenies in Prius' at the lights.;D
