this is what was shorting under my seat, which led to my ignition switch harness completely melting.

I noticed I have a 30amp fuse in there so i switched that to a 20amp.....I STILL would have thought it would have blown that 30amp instead of melting it like this....geez.

bike is fixed, the missing rubber under my seat has been replaced and everything is covered.

I would say, I've never experienced panic like that, all I could think about was a video ive seen of a motorcycle going into a slide and instantly turning into a fireball.

Now that Im thinking about it, im just happy it didnt turn into a fireball while riding. Im thinking about carrying a fire extinguisher on my bike now.

thank you for the compliment.

Glad it didn't turn into anything worse. Great looking bike!

im VERY happy my bike didnt burn up, thank you for the compliment. I just took apart my front fairing to refurbish it and I stepped on the smoke screen and cracked it. Repairing it shouldn't be too bad and since its a smoke screen repair of the damaged areas should be easy to hide. This has me thinking about a new fairing, one better looking and also go me thinking about storage, how to mount my phone for gps, more pockets, fog lights mounting off the bottom, found a nice highway bar in the corner at the shop, going to polish it up and put it on my bike.

maybe see if you can adapt a cb400f front fender...might be too hard to find or pricey

Have you fitted one before, any mod advice? I purchased one on ebay but I havent take it out of the box yet.
I imagine I need to re drill some holes if the brackets should be close enough, or I remove the rivets cut and weld on mix match parts of the brackets and put the cb400 fender back on.

It definitely needs to change because the gap over the tire makes the tire look larger than it is and its' bothering me, it gives me the same issues having the 110 kenda gave me. The front end is already looking "heavier" than the rear.

I've accumulated a little over 600 miles on the bikes current trip, the idle wanting to rise fixed its self around 400 miles, sits pretty at 1100rpm with no hick ups or rising. I love it. I was able to adjust the clutch at the lever and that cleaned up what I was dealing with, I'm still buying some new EBC plates and replacing them. After the freeway riding this weekend I've decided I do want a permanent fairing, I took the one I have apart but stepped on and broke the smoke screen, It's repairable but it's got me looking for a new one entirely. I fluctuate between 200-210lbs and my ideal weight is 185-190lbs, with the wind resistance I experienced w/ no fairing, I will 100% need an 836 kit. I'm comparing this to a 78' R80 I took on a trip and I was never left looking for more power.

I for sure need a riser about 1 1/2" and for the bar to come towards me a little bit too.

couple things I might want to change, the motor cover that covers the front sprocket I think I want to paint black, I might want to drill or slot the chain guard cause its a lot of chrome.

Here it is after riding out through some nice riding in Hell and parked in Ypsi to visit a glass shop.

edit: I think im going to paint the chain guard gloss black, Im getting a new seat too.

I have never mounted a 400f fender on a 750 fork or had a 750 with an 18" front.  I just knew that 400f was only sohc4 with an 18" front.  I would think drilling the rivets would br the way to go.

Anyone ever refurbish one of these oil pressure gauges? I love this stewart warner on the bike right now but the face is so so dry and dusty, rusty. I love the size of it. I purchased one of those marshall gauges from California, its so dang small.

Found some highway pegs
Those led lights showed up too for behind the gauges

I got that same old stewart warner...old as #$%*.  Has never been accurate since i have had it.  I can tell when pressure is high, medium, low or zero.  It needs to be setviced.

Hi, on the road all day, no problems, Nice and hot. I installed the highway pegs and just enjoy how shiny it is, Ill enjoy that more when I have something to lean back on during my long trips, otherwise it needs to get extended and moved forward a little bit.

I sourced a 750 rear grab bar, its got some rust on it and needs to get cleaned up. The mount holding my tail light is welded onto the fender and the 750 grab bar sits in just a little closer than the 550...so it didnt fit. Easy modifications to fix that.

Just ordered my GIVI 30L top case, aluminum finish, with the plastic generic mount. Ran me 387 delivered.

This means its time to build myself a custom rack to mount this on or I use some stock hardware that I have sitting around. Going to replicate the one pictured down below and use as template.

Im thinking im going to attempt a custom set up to incorporate a nice sissy bar with back rest and license plate mount, I would like to get it up higher for better visibility. I might have to rethink how everything is mounted back there...but thats the fun. I almost bought the Ohlins shocks I want but decided not to spend that much right now, going to sell some parts to fund those.

blasted and painted just for mock up and then will get to powder when the frame mods are done. I have no idea what that first two fins are top and bottom on each side, one hole in each one...i can't figure it out. I love this swing arm, multiple axle positions, multiple shock positions, stock and extended swingers option, fitted right into a 72' 750 with a chain guard. I'm geeked. Ive been researching custom box swing arms for 750s and they range from 500-1500 most of them discontinued. I basically got this for free in this deal.

I am often amused (even amazed!) at the swingarms that end up on these 'racing' bikes, often sporting the same phenolic bushings that made them flexy in the beginning. The K0-K6 swingarm is mighty strong, just didn't have great pivots. Once they were changed to bronze, and properly toleranced, they made terrific arms.

I wrapped some rubber inner tube around the spine of the bike for dampening, also found some less worn out tank rubbers, that took care of all the squeaking and what not. Since that tank is blown up, it does sit on the rubbers snug. I bought some felt, some fiberglass patch kit, ill take a sanding bloc to the fairing, paint it, felt line the inside, install the rubber around the opening so there is no bleed over from the head light. I also backed off the preload adjusters one line, backed off the rear shocks one turn, seemed a little softer on both ends afterwards.

My case gets delivered tomorrow, Im goin to use this rack pictured below as a template to make my own and then make changes from there. Its going to have a higher sissy bar for a back rest pad maybe, I might have a removable option. It will for sure get a couple more LED brake lights incorporated.

The stewart warner oil pressure gauge ended up winning me over, although rusty, it just speaks to me. Phil like the marshalls gauge so I gave it to him.
waiting on the damper bracket from doobie, still need to order the damper.
I really, really, really, want to use this unicorn triple that I purchased, Im thinking I could get a custom mount 3d printed or just make casing around the gauge body with fiberglass, make sure I make a groove on that, then maybe make a new band that holds it in place if it needs to be bigger.

Ordered new plugs and new caps, bike is due for an oil change, my exhaust sits right under the drain plug. Ive been avoiding dropping money on new pistons and brake pads, new brake lines up front, thought about stealing the dual brake lines and MC that just went onto my 550, but Im not going to do it. I have this cb400f front fender for an 18" front wheel that I need to fit, Ive taken this frond end apart 4-5 times trying to get things right, im tired of doing it.

new pistons and pads
fit new front fender
new brake lines
new fluid
mount refurbished fairing WITH WORKING TURN SIGNALS (i mounted this fairing twice and didnt hook them up, was annoyed after each time)
try to fabricate a custom mount to utilize the unicorn triple

I was considering the fairing pictured below and the pro taper bars instead of risers and keeping what I have.

I just happened across this bike/thread.  I spent 20 minutes or so going through the WHOLE thread. (Trouble is that I'm supposed to be "working").

I'll echo what's already been said.  This is a very nicely turned piece.  I am a stickler for detail.  Small details cumulatively make a BIG difference.  This bike has all of that.

And, yeah, while you need a fender, the original one ain't gettin' it.   Not sure about the fit on a SOHC CB, but the early 80's CB900 Custom fenders have a nice shape.  I have one on my 78 GL and really like it.

Smoking hot bike.

I met Rudy, Dr. Ru, way back when he was beginning. He painted the boss’s CL450, a couple times I think. I don’t have pics, I didn’t even own a camera back then. But psychedelic was big and it was done in that style, and done very nicely. Rudy’s younger brother Marty worked at the Honda shop with me and was a pal. Marty had an HD74 with an SL100 peanut tank fitted, looked great, lotsa gas stops. Marty offered me the bike one day for an errand but I was too skinny to kick it over and not so proud that I wouldn’t ask for help. I had a little ride on a real big bike and was careful not to stall it. Fun times. And I still remember that ride.

This thing is nice, lots of space, helmet for reference. Can’t wait to mount this puppy. It smelled like a new car when I opened it, lol.

The dampener mount showed up as well, thanks doobie.

Rehabbing the fairing - wish i didnt cut and and drill these holes into this thing, would have been that much less work. Not even sure the bondo will stay in there, after letting it dry i covered the back with gorilla glue super glue, then there will be felt behind it. I bought black paint, will clear it and it will be all done.
