for anyone who wants to chime in, has anyone tried a front MC with a bore smaller than 14mm to handle dual disc work up front?

I have a Nissan MC that has a 1/2" bore which is about 12mm, 2mm shorter than the amount recommended for our piston diameters....I think im gonna try it out anyway because this amazon MC is just not up to the task anymore and the lever is never consistent
I tried one once on my F with dual discs, never was able to bleed up enough of a lever.  I don't know if this was my error, or the fact that it was a used Nissin bought off eBay.  Anyway, I ended up with a used '90's era Nissin 5/8"(I think that was the bore size) that has worked great for several years now.  Just the other day I used that same 12mm that wouldn't bleed to push the pistons out of a 750f rear caliper I am working on.  Those 750f rears are 2 piston calipers but smaller than the pistons on the front.  So I don't know what's going  on lol
A 12mm or 1/2" will work with dual discs if the calipers are the earlier models with the 38mm Pistons.
The F and later model K has a larger Piston, (42mm I believe?) so the Master Cylinder would need to be in the 14mm, 5/8" range.
If we're talking Radial Master Cylinders; Then those would be in the 20mm to 24mm range.

As for sources and brand; I've had best results (and prices) with used Nissin or Brembo threw E-Bay. Just need to pay close attention to the condition.
(Stick with brand names for access to rebuild kits)

I ordered a 16mm master cylinder to see if I can achieve a firmer lever for my dual disc. I'll swap the 1/2" Nissan onto my cb500 with single disc and see if this a nice fit.

If I had put an ounce of thought into how the brake system is functioning I would have figured it out sooner, this 16mm MC did the trick, nice firm lever and zero over travel. I have so much more control over this beast now.

Before I would get a firmish lever then it would require me to compress it some more…that didn’t apply well to the real world.

Problem solved, moving on.

edit:

While I was able to improve upon my breaking I still think a swap over to a two pot Beringer caliper would be better performance and less weight.

rotor is $660
caliper with mounting arm $600

I imagine one of my SS lines will work and Maybe a stock MC or the 1/2" Nissan off the CBR may work.
New standard fork legs and internal springs from race tech are on the menu over the winter, Ive been eye balling a used set of Öhlins online for one of my bikes as well.

Wrecked my baby today, I'm alright. This was during rush hour making a left turn out of a parking lot to head southbound, cars let me out across them to make my way into the middle lane but someone was using the middle lane to bypass the northbound back up. I was still looking for clear traffic slowly rolling forward and the front of his car caught my front wheel, just the front of my tire was crossed over the middle lane line. The northbound backup was due to a malfunctioning traffic signal at 10 and Dequinder, the driver ended up making a U turn in the southbound lanes and running from the scene heading south. I ended up with light damage to my right hand visually but with some deep bruising and swelling.

Hey all, thanks for the kind words. The front of the wheel took most of the damage. The car basically pushed the bike from under me to the right and I fell to the ground in the push up position. I have a bruised/swollen right hand and a scratch on the inside of my right knee from the bike moving that direction.  I was able to have it flatbed transported to Phils shop this morning,  Immediately starting stripping the front end. Most of the force was to the wheel as my rotors and calipers sustained no damage and the damage to the fork lower is from scraping the ground. My headlight and bucket is fine and working which is great cause that thing costs 300-400 bucks now, the motogadget turn signals are ok, all of my switches levers and cables are untouched. The right fork might not be bent at all, the lower is not damaged and assume the internals are ok as well. The triple tree, gauge mount, the outer housing of the speedo, fork ears, rim and spokes are destroyed. Phil looked at it and said the frame is not bent so Im just rebuilding the front end. I already have a triple tree replacement with some fresh tapered bearings, im looking online for some fork tubes and should have a set of lowers floating around the shop that I can make look nice. Building a new wheel and getting it coated black is gonna be most of the expenses. Im am fully prepared to install parts I believe to be in ok condition and realizing something is off about it so I won't be shocked down the road. Maybe the hub is damaged but I won't see that until the wheel is disassembled.

I don't carry full coverage, I only carry coverage for if I hurt someone else or damage someones property and coverage for any passengers I may have, so to get my bike out of the yard today cost me $405 bucks, usually insurance pays that. As for the driver I don't event know how I feel about it at this point, I woke up today feeling fine and no surprise aches or pains, the swelling in my hand had reduced even, I worked on the bike all day today alone...the point is now this #$%*ing idiot is facing a 5 year felony, I'm not sure I even want this person found because a 5 year felony is life altering.

Gonna be looking for a DID 18" front 40 spoke rim and fork tubes tonight.

Glad to hear you're whole and rebuilding.

I can't help but wonder if the sheared fork drain is why those eventually disappeared from most forks?

The amount of people driving around with active warrants is staggering, that driver may have other reasons to run and hide.

GOOD LUCK!!!
18" 40 spoke hole rims are hard to find.  I found one on ebay - it was undrilled.  Had Buchannan's drill it for a honda hub and spokes.  Worked out great but, the wheel will not fully true due to being some bangledish special.

I went into my attic and remembered I purchased a DID 18 inch rim laced to 750 hub with a rotor back in 2021/22', it was sitting in a box.  I deconstructed the new donor wheel and the damaged wheel today, my spokes on the damaged wheel are still usable, the one spoke I thought was broken was actually just a broken nipple sheared off at the shoulder the tire and tube both looked to be in good shape. I polished my original hub, cleaned and polished the original spokes, and dropped off the new 18" rim at the powder coater, he said it should be ready on Monday/tuesday.

Found a set of 550 forks in my garage which is good because the lowers are same so I have a set already polished ready to go.

Shtonecb500, how's your Winton Kit CB750K1  :)

That bike is still sitting in the shop and was supposed to get the motor taken out this month. Phil has three small bikes on his lifts right now and I was waiting until those were finished, but this black bike kinda ate up half the budget for that winton motor rebuild, I may have to push it off a little more.

400 bucks to get the bike out of the tow yard and another 160 for some fork tubes then I gotta pay Phil to lace my wheel, I guess I could try lacing myself to save a little change but I gave up last time trying to true my wheel.

The fork tubes I have are only a half inch shorter than the damaged set, so ill just be using these measuring 22 1/2". The replacement fork lowers are polished, front hub is polished, spokes are polished and have sourced a nipple to replace the broken one, new lower triple is installed with my steering lock in place and top triple is polished although I might sand that and polish again, replaced the back cover for my gauges. The severely bent fork tubes needs to be straightened in order to get the fork internals out, thats about the only thing remaining stopping me from having everything all laid out on a prep table.

I was able to source all parts from boxes around here and in my storage so this rebuild is costing me nothing so far.

How’s the wheel?

you are correct, after more observation all the car hit was the front of the wheel and the damage to the fork lower was from the ground. Thats why the triple tree tore the way it did. The rim is SUPER crooked. The damage really did stay within the front suspension system though and the bike sustained zero damaged from the stem back.
