Wrecked my baby today. I'm alright. Rush hour, left turn out of a parking lot to head southbound, someone was using the middle lane to bypass the back up, I was still looking for clear traffic slowly rolling forward and the front of his car caught my front wheel. The driver ended up fleeing the scene, they actually made a u turn in the south bound lane and ran southbound since all the northbound traffic was backed up due to the intersection light at 10 mile and dequinder was out.

 >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(  Murderous *%&king cager  !!!!   >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(  Did you get thrown-clear ?
Glad you're ok..

it basically got swept away from me and I landed in the push up position on the ground, wondering what happened.

I'm glad you landed in such a way to be 'ready for action'..;did the gloves cushion your palms a bit?

If you don't have access to a press to straighten those forks to get the internals out, you can cut them with a sharp hacksaw. Just rotate the forks slowly as you cut every ten strokes or so. When the blade finally breaks through, smack the tip of the bent tube on the ground to snap it off. You may have to unscrew the springs from the tubes depending on the degree of bend, but they don't look as bad as the set i worked on a few months back.

I was thinking about hooking the headers/exhaust up to my motor or to a spare junk motor, heat up the number 2 headers and try to hammer it back where it should be.

Seems worth a try at least.
Although I would go with the spare junk motor, just in case the force snaps a stud or something.

Still waiting on the rim to come back from powder. Got the forks together had to shorten the spacers but all went fine. My left turn signal position doesn't stay in place so I disassembled the switch mechanism today and the spring popped out and I lost the  u - channel type piece somewhere on the shop floor. I should have some spare switches somewhere so hopefully I can find a spare part. Installed the forks  the right way forward until I remembered that I changed the brake line hardware to work in the reversed position, so I had to pull the forks and swap them. Going back to the stock looking fender that I left off when the caliper reversal was made, unbolted the fender from its mounting bracket and reversed it. Bike won't be done until sometime next week.

As for the exhaust I'll put the scrap motor in the engine stand and attach it and work on the header that way, put some heat on it and put a ratchet strap on it and pull it back where it should be.

Phil got them out by time I got to the shop but yes, they are already installed in the new fork.

My tire is damaged from the accident which makes sense because there are metal bands in the rubber so why wouldn't it have damage. Didn't notice until I got it mounted on the rim and saw a wobble. Just ordered a 110 90 18 by mistake instead of 100 90 18 off eBay, the seller doesn't accept returns lol, I requested a cancellation and waiting on decision. Found another seller located here in Michigan so shipping will be only a couple days. My left turn switch wouldn't stay in position and I lost some of the  small internal components for the switch assembly, my biggest issue was cutting into another switch housing to run the wires on the outside of the bars but I didn't want to ruin another lower switch housing, so I swapped a new upper onto the existing lower. Im still in limbo for a front fender, the one I made a couple years ago doesn't fit the best and trying to get the offset gap correct with the caliper arms and this fender is kind of a pain in the ass, so i'm looking for new front fender solutions.

remaining:
tire
fairing
front turn signals
front brakes
sync carbs

I still have that fairing i had mentioned earlier, same as you'd used before but no windshield.
You can have it for shipping costs if you'd like.

I've got a Shoei fairing you can have for postage if you need it, it may be for a square headlight.

Here it is:

I found the same fairing at eastern Michigan cycle salvage a year or two ago, bought it, and stored it. It came with new hardware as well but the old hardware is not damaged. I'll be spray bombing it black. I wanted to take this opportunity to get my bike painted  but im worried timing will suck and it will keep me off my bike for even longer. Once I figure out a permanent fender solution ill powder the frame again over the winter.

The new tire should be delivered tomorrow ill have to get this bad tire off.

You can have it for shipping costs if you'd like. Thank you again for the offer, the reason I never took you up on that is bc of the box shaped headlight opening.

How everything going from the hit and run?

I tried emailing and calling the cop to get him to request the footage but they never reached back out to me. I was told to go into he police station and inquire but I never went in there. Im most likely putting it behind me and moving on. Since its basically been a month the idea that U haul still has the footage seems less likely which also discourages me from attempting it.

Maybe this post will make me stop in there.

progress post.

My original exhaust is too damaged to install again, the #2 header pipe is bent out of shape at the top 90 coming out of the motor and then at the bottom where #2 goes into the collector. The pipe folded in two spots being pushed closer to the #1 header pipe, I think I might be able to get it back into shape with a torch and straps. Right now I have the Yoshi replica exhaust fitted to the bike but Im missing two exhaust flanges to finish bolting it up, ill be reaching to a couple local guys to see if they have a couple flanges laying around for me. Ceramic coating quote for this Yoshi replica pipe was $175. Front wheel and brakes got sorted out yesterday, very nice roll and solid braking but my brake pads are low so Ill be ordering new pads and installing those. My forks are still squeaking when they compress so this confirms for me that it is for sure the fork internals considering these are replacement fork tubes and I honestly dont like the bike sitting 1/2 lower lol....so I might just spring for new appropriate length tubes.

My front fender situation must change, when running dual discs I genuinely do not want the fender mount to be combined with the caliper brackets, I dont want to deal with offset and washers....so Im looking for a fender solution. I was going to use the torozzi mount and create a kind of spacer to attach my fender to the underside of the brace.

Today Ill probably continue on the fairing, front fender, and flanges for exhaust...if I find flanges today Ill take the bike for a spin.

Tuning might change with this pipe as well, and Id still like to balance the carbs.

Found the two exhaust clamps I needed in a box so the Yoshi exhaust was bolted on tight and I started the bike, didn't ride it though. I took a dummy motor and put it in the engine stand and that way we can attach the damaged exhaust there and try to bend it back into shape. The only one that fits into the head is the number 4 pipe, number 3 wants to sit nicely but the damage to n#2 pipes throws it off and #1 won't fit either, I might have to put the exhaust in a vice and get them moved before trying to fit to the dummy motor.  When the petcock is flipped I'm getting a fuel leak from the #1 carb so there needs to be some more inspection there to find the source, thinking something came loose/misaligned during the impact and not completely sold on there being actual damaged to a carb body.
Below is  photo of my exhaust, you can see the spacing differences between pipes 1/2 and pipes 3/4, since the pipes were hot the metal just folded so im hoping the metal doesn't split when trying to shape it back. I'll get pics of the actual folds.

Was able to find my spare torozzi brace and now that I have the calipers spaced properly and mounted, mounting the fender that I have looks a little more straight forward. If I can get the fender and torozzi back in place I'll be a very happy camper. I like the look of bobbed fenders but I enjoy the coverage from a full fender in wet conditions more. Now that I've got all the hardware to mount the Yoshi pipe, I think getting it ceramic coated anyway just to have it ready to run on a bike and to prevent it from degrading anymore would be good.

I was able to place the exhaust in a vise get it cherry red on the bent header down at the collector, and move it closer to where it should be before trying to fit it to the motor in the stand. In the stand we got headers 3 and 4 attached first then got 1 and 2 cherry and got them in position and tightened up the bolts, it was way easier than I thought but I had help handling the torch while I moved the pipes. Synced the carbs and  took the bike up and down the road and it's great. The Shoei fairing got spray bombed and almost has all of the hardware swapped over and I have a plan of attack for the fender thanks to Godffery.

I'm super happy I was able to salvage my pipe, cant wait to ride this weekend.

replaced parts: entire triple tree assembly, fork tubes, fork lowers, front rim, (1) spoke nipple, (1) speedo/tach housing cover, (1) tire, Shoei fairing.

Pretty lucky to have one laying in the attic!!!

you have no idea what a relief it was to find it. I bought it cause I figured every 750 build I did moving forward I would want an 18" wheel, so I was looking around for a while.

thank you thank you im glad the progress on the bike went the way that it did. I rode all day yesterday, was still a little nervous and was second guessing some of my decisions but I think thats normal behavior when getting back on the bike. I rode my usual routes and usual speeds, just made sure to take turns at established lights and signals...lol.

I was feeling comfortable by evening.

I need a heat gun to get my windshield on the fairing and also need some new plastic 10mm hardware to bolt it together, the stuff I have is chewed up. I wonder if I can get away with half metal half plastic hardware to add some strength.
