I don't think that Derek's chrome is all that good Crispy, and anyway, I had a Suzuki GS1000S frame straightened a few years ago and this consisted of both heat from an oxy-acetylene torch to soften the frame at the damaged tube/s while hydraulic pressure was applied via a super rigid straightening jig. I doubt that even good chrome would survive this ordeal, but I guess it could be done cold.................  ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

"Crazy is a very misunderstood term, it's a fine line that some of us can lean over and still keep our balance" (thanks RB550Four)

Re: My new 750 Tracy Project!/wheel bearings"are they rebuilt already?"
« Reply #102 on: April 17, 2007, 06:19:41 PM »
Hit the wheels today to clean and surmise what needs to be done besides paint.
Based on what history I know about this bike, someone had started to do some work on it. The wheels spin very freely, but I have taken a couple of photos and the info from the seals. Perhaps someone knows if the text on these sounds NEW!

Rear Wheel
Text on the bearings:
Romainia, Peer, 6304-RS

Front Wheel
Text on bearings:
Japan, KOYO, 6302-RS

Would you take the sh&t all apart?

Got a call from the guy doing my 836 rebuild. Can't find his phone number to call him back "due to a computer melt down"

He said on the message that I needed to get a lighter "fly wheel" for this build.

Is this waht he is refereing to?

 LIGHTENED ALTERNATOR:
Early K Model Hondas had heavy alternators hanging off the end of the crank.
This caused  crankshaft whip. During full power shifts and off throttle hard
riding the crank twisted. Pictured is a lightened alternator (approx 3 to 4
pounds lighter). Comes with the tool to remove  your alternator. Even though
Honda lightened their alternators somewhat on late years, we still  like the way
the bike rev's to the moon with this modification!
$ 65.95  Exchange  ( specify electrics start or kick start only)   # EN-608

I would assume a lightened rotor &/or crank. If you need a lightened crank Big Jay's APE can always do that but plan on a 3 month wait unless you can pull some strings with Jay.

Where is your rotor ad from? Do they make any claims as far as output?

Wow.....with all the 836 builders here I would have thought I would have had a number of opinions on this?

Is it necessary? Pros/ Cons?

Derek, I didn't come in on this one because, have you not noticed I rareley comment or give advise on anything electrical or to do with road going bikes. If I don't know anything about a subject, I do my best to keep my mouth shut. :-X :-X :-X ;D ;D ;D ;D
I have not worked on a road bike for many years, and in the case of generators, that's the first thing that goes in the bin if a motor is to be used for racing.
Untill Chris asked me to help him build the CR, I had never seen the inside of any sohc 4. All my work has been on the 125 and 150 Benlys.
Regarding small generators for the CB750, I do know that you can get a shorter lighter version from Mark Mcgrew at 3M racing, but it's quite expensive and I am not sure if it would cope with the needs of the rest of the electrical system of a road bike.

Seaweb,

I really like your new chatroom  ;D

I missed that piece on CycleX last time I looked. I know where a Yoshi rotor is just like that but I ain't telling! I intend on probably using it on my lightened crank from Big Jay. My thoughts are that with a lightened rotor we would lose some of the flywheel effect. Yes it will crank up faster but it will also roll off the throttle faster due to the compression without the extra weight pushing the crank. An example is my buddies VTX1800 with a lighter flywheel vs my Fat Boy. He's a Honda rider so he likes to be in front. He rolls off the throttle, no brake light coming on, and I about roll over his ass when I let off my throttle (if I'm not careful) from the Harley's big heavy flywheel continuing to propel the bike. Thats something we can get used to. My main concern is will a smaller rotor create enough/sufficient/the same voltage?! 3 ohm coils suck enough out already that I'll probably never see 13+V anyway so can I afford less?! The rotor doesn't look like it will go into the stator very far compared to a stock rotor. However this is an easy modification to do then undo if necessary. Someone posted a system in the past 6 months on EBay that had a smaller rotor but the case for the rotor, etc had been cut down to allow the rotor to fit inside the coils. That seemed more logical.

I'm hoping we can find someone that has done this.

DO IT BROTHER!!     How about lightened crank, lightened flywheel, AND aluminum rods in that 836?! One fast spinning powerful mother!

Well, the frickin tires probables won't show up....... so on with the games.

I received a call today that my chrome frame has had the "frame mod" installed and another call that the lightened fly wheel came in and my 836 engine is finished so I will be picking up both in a day or so.

Here are the photos of the completed 836 engine and the frame with the "pull off frame mod"
All in all I am very happy with the way it came together. I have a nice set of (ready 836 modded carbs)  to go on and lots of goodies yet to find.

Yes I did the polishing and painting.
(Polishing) lots of wet sanding and time on the buffer.
(Paint) tooth brushed clean, sanded, painted with Engine enamel Rattle can.
