It is nice, I do hope I come up with something as good or better ;D

Been polishing bits and pieces, and cleaning the motor. Just about ready to paint the engine. Next week should be about right.

No doubt, Carpy's builds are a site to behold but, I gotta tell ya that there are some pretty impressive bikes here as well. Just one more comment on Carpy's 750 w/ the Tracy body, of course it is his to do with as he wishes but I can't help thinking that (like EC said) get papers and it will sell easier. Why spend $8000 for a bike that has no papers? ??? That's all about that.

seaweb, There is no doubt in my mind that your 750 is going to be one DAMN impressive bike! ;) 8)
From what we've seen on your previous work, we know your caliper of work and attention to detail. I'm about (not quite, I'm sure) as anxious as you are to see the end results of this one. ;) You take care and I'll catch you later on.                                 Bill :) ;)

Picked up the bead blasted and the 836 bored out parts today. Have been working on sanding all the access pieces down to 800 grit ready for paint and polish. ...........and keeping a hand at continuing to clean the engine.

             Hey seaweb,
Like that "Sophisticated Fixture" that you have propping the motor up. ;D ::) Seriously though, keep up the go work there. ;) 8)

1 step forward 3 steps back.  Nothing on these #$%*es comes easy!

I had turned the above motor over and about a few times this past couple weeks cleaning it after we had looked inside and at the sump and all looked good.  2 days ago I removed the pan again to clean and paint it, and in the corner I saw a nice piece of steel sitting there.  The guy who is going to do the 836 build for me is a 4 hour trip so I mailed him the piece.

Just as I thought....it is a gear tooth that had finally fallen all the way down. Now the bottome end has to be split ::)
I have now cleaned 2 lower ends with a tooth brush and varsol and sand paper and still do not have an engine to use.

Going to drop off this one to him and hopefully between the two lower ends we can make one good one.

as my 13 year old daughter likes to say..........good times............

8K for a Carpy-bike seems like a lot, but that body kit does look nice, although I reckon it'd be nicer on a "Dirt Track Racer" inspired bike than a "Cafe". Apart from that though, I can't see 8K, so I can see why it didn't sell............ :-\

Hey Derek, make sure you clean those beadblasted parts in plenty of hot soapy water mate, and get into all the nooks and crannies with a range of brushes and "pipe cleaners" etc, that stuff gets in everywhere and clings to any old oil or grease, but I guarantee it'll fall back into your engine first time out, and turn all the expensive internal components into mangled paperweights, ha ha! Cheers, Terry.  ;D

I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

I do know the hazards of the beads. I did tell the machine shop to mask off the iny and outy ports and they have done this work on bikes before. Thanks for the upbeat post ???

You still haven't answered my PM?

Sorry mate, I went for a ride on my K1 just after that last post so have only just read, and answered, your PM.

My "Upbeat" post wasn't meant to upset you, just to warn you Derek, don't just trust a bead blaster who's "done it all before", put that cylinder block in a big tub of hot soapy water and scrub the hell out of it, and you'll understand what I mean.

Up to you of course, but glass beads are measured in microns, so no amount of plugs alone will stop it's ingress. Cheers, Terry. ;D

Crap, Crap and more Crap!!!!!!!!!!!!

The second bottom end is hooped!  This build is testing my patients.  I have now cleaned two lower ends with a tooth brush and varsol and sanded ready for paint.

Now looking for another bottom end. The other choice is finding an aluminum welder to fix the problem. Seems a chain breakage in the past has cracked the casing ::)

I installed the tapered steering bearings today and all went well. "All-Balls brand" quite happy with the product. Purchased from Cycle-X.  I noticed a bent lock out on the triple tree on disassembly but did not think to much about it at the time.

Then noticed today the one of the forks does not squeeze all the way in the same without fork oil as the other onei. It binds about 2 inches from complete compression compared to the good one.

I also noticed on doing a mock up fork Assembly the neither forks likes the left brace align and the good fork slides effortlessly through the right triple trees.  So thinking of the phisics that would bend the steering lock on the bottom, I can only assume some POS ran it into a curb with the steering all the way to the right!  Wrong side of the ROAD dude!!!!!

Now I find myself on the hunt for another lower triple "polished or chromed would be great" and a new front fork, just the top end,  but perhaps the whole unit would be a good idea.

Hey Seaweb,yeah....I'm in the process of my frontend work (still). Came to find out my tubes are rusted to hell & back but only under the head lite ears. I just started a new job so when I get caught up on my bills, its forks by Frank...here I come. I bought the same kind of headlite ears you put on your 78 and I am ditching the gaiters for the regular dust boots. I'm gonna order the all balls kit from Z1. Which spacer did you use? It seems like most people are going with the thick one. Anyhow....I figure to have it all back together by mid May.

As for the washer..... I called Cycle_X and told them my application of a 72 CB750 and they indicated they use the thinner of the two in the kit so I did and it worked out great.

Great that is if you realize I now have to hammer them off and re-install them on another bottom triple.^&%$$##@##

Not getting you Breeze?  I used the thinner washer and it would have been fine if not for the bent stuff.

Worse thing is that straightening the frame will probably damage the chrome plating, chrome plating is expensive here, but it might be cheaper to find a straight frame and get it chromed? Cheers, Terry.  ;D

If the plating was done properly in the original instance, and the frame is warmed up thoroughly (note: warmed, not heated) prior to starting, the plating should survive.
