Enjoying the lovely aroma of 45 year old fork oil again today.  Nothing quite like it.  Front tire mounted, I will probably jinx myself now, but it has been years since I pinched a tube.  Nothing like a good set of spoons to make life easier.......

Coming along nicely, that's going to be a sweet bike. Those last couple bites when mounting tires always worries me. It seems like if you have just the right amount of air in the tube then it just gets pushed out of the way and all is good.

The last tube I pinched was on a road bicycle far from home, I pulled over in someone's front yard under a nice shade tree and was working in a hurry and got careless. A nice lady came out and let me sit at her picnic table to work and gave me a Pepsi and filled my water bottles after seeing me struggle. Luckily I had a patch kit in my seat bag also and ended up fixing the original tube.

Applying Caswell Sealer to inside of the tank currently.  Of all of the products out there, in my humble opinion this one is far superior.....

I haven't tried the POR-15 but I, too, have had great results with Caswell.

My own personal experience; por-15 didnt work on a NOS gastank with a high dollar paint job; instructions were followed to the T. I won’t ever use it again. I will try caswell.

Well for all intensive purposes, another one done.  I am still waiting on a seal beam, low beam burned out, and that is it for parts.  I put about 15 miles on it this morning on back roads and the bike performed beautifully.  I am going to add a few more miles and change the oil one more time since it sat for so long, then it is going up for adoption.  I sent the former owner final shots this morning and she is very happy to see her Father's bike up and running again.  No more for a while, depending on how long I can postpone a new knee I have a lot of other projects to get too.  I left Lowes a few minutes ago with half a truck load of assorted "Honey Do" items that I have been putting off for way too long.  I also have my Chopper on the lift for an entire re-wire with a new style rectifier/regulator upgrade and clutch plates.  I am going to turn a blind eye to those evil places called Craig's List and Facebook Marketplace for quite a while.......

Britman, it looks great. You did a great job with this one. Knee surgery is pretty painful, but usually you are in so much pain before the surgery it doesn't hurt as bad as before and once the surgery pain dulls you are doing great. Then just an issue of rehab'ing the knee to get the mobility and full range of motion.
If you have snow and ice where you live avoid getting it done when it is icy, a slip on icy pavement you would not want an injury from that compounding the knee recovery time...

http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php/topic,180400.0.html

Thanks Steve, but I sent a PM saying that I respectfully decline.  Foremost, the award should go to someone who builds a bike from the ground up, me, I just get them running and try to make them pretty.  The bike should also be a keeper, sadly this one is going up for sale shortly.  For those two reasons, I won't be entering the contest but I really appreciate the thought my friend.....

George,

For the record, not all BOTM entries are built from the ground up.  And, yes, your bike sure is PRETTY.  That said, we'll respect your wishes in not going forth with the nomination.

Agree, 100%

In my mind, nothing better than taking one of these bikes and getting it running and back on the road!

That’s really nice and turned out amazing! Congrats on a good job. Hope you don’t mind me asking, how did you deal with the rust on the chrome and frame? Looks brand new!

Fine steel wool and a good chrome polish.  The rust pits are still there, but it does clean a lot of the areas to make them presentable from a distance.  I am still looking at the bike everyday waiting on the shipper.  Hopefully they will be contacting me soon.

One trick I have heard used is to clean chrome and de-rust pits and spray silver paint then polish silver paint off leaving paint in the pits. Not sure how that works.

I got a chrome paint pen from an art store. I used it on the back of gauge lenses, but considered trying it to touch up some chrome. If I get good results I'll post it.

At 7am yesterday morning a 53 foot tractor and trailer pulled up in front of my house and the bike was loaded on the second tier of the rig and sent on its way.....The pick up company was "Haul Bikes" very professional and showed up right on time.  I now actually have some room in my garage, feels pretty good, but I will probably start looking for something before the snow flies.
