Glad you got down there Bill! I didn't realize Brenda was survived by her mom...Hope she is holding up ok. A parent should never out live their child...(actually that didn't come out right, A child should never pass before before their parent)

Did you get a chance to swing by and check on your dad's place? Also any movement on him getting his stuff back from S&S?

Dennis

Dennis, it was a very nice trip down and all. Only part that was upsetting was when I got to my Mother-in-law's. Just after we got there, she got tearful and I was afraid that she would, and I reassured her that we were doing okay. Only thing is, my Daughter Karla had talked to her the day before, on the phone, telling her that SHE was dong fine, but that I cried quite a bit. Well, I DO have my moments, but they are usually when I'm alone. My Mother-in-law (Lou) has always liked me, because I treated THEM like my own family and that is the way I thought I SHOULD treat them, because they had become MY FAMILY, and is concerned about ME as well. Anyway, we had a good talk, even though brief, cause my time was limited, I had to get back and pick up Karla, James and deliver Joey. I just felt that I needed to touch base with Lou and reassure her that I was making it, Slowly, but making it.

Dad's place is fine and, after taking about a month (or a little more) off from that, because of Brenda's passing, I have to get with the Lawyer and get on with this. It really is SAD when you have to go through steps to retreive a person's own things from one of their KIDS! >:(

I've got to focus own THAT more and get it DONE! >:(

good god, i hit the "new" reply icon and i started to read, got a bit of a jolt till i realized i was reading the very first post again. i got all confused when you had said that your brothers wife called   :D damn i need to pay attention more. how are you and the family Bill? all is well i hope?

Easy there Jeff,  you still woozy from that grinder explosion? ???  This HAS become quite large, hasn't it? Hopefully, we'll be through with the "Bad" part soon and be able to get on with things.

We are doing okay, Karla's still holding like a Rock (starting to talk more about what happened and such. ME, I'm doing pretty well, most of the time. Still find myself having those moments, which I expect will NEVER go away. There ARE times that I find myself just standing there, when I had the intentions of doing a certain thing. I will make it, It's just going to take time, I know. ;)

                                                                                                 Thanks for asking, Bill ;)

I won't pry Tim but did want to say good on ya for manning up and looking after your family! Whatever the situation, it is good that she has a bro she can turn to for assistance. All families should be like that but sadly all too regularly they are not.

Yeah Jeff, he's doing pretty well. Thanks for askin'. Just made 2 trips to Little Rock with in the last 2 weeks, to see that waitress at Denney's that used to wait on my Mom and Him for about 25 years. She still knew what he wanted (a Grand Slam/ 2 eggs over easy, 4 pieces of bacon and a couple of pancakes with a continuous supply of coffe in his cup. :D) Funny, when we first started getting things BACK together like they should be (last year), we went in there. I went to the rest room and came back. I asked him if he knew what he was going to get and he said, "She knows!" I thought, "okay, he's flipped!" ::) But, she came up, with a cup of coffee and asked him if he wanted his "Usual?" and he said, "Yes" Then she turned to me and asked what I wanted? I was still taking in what had just happened! :o

That's what I thought, after I realized that SHE DID KNOW what he wanted! Because, til I knew that , I REALLY was wondering if he WAS having some symptoms of ALZTHiMER'S ! Befor long, she was trying to get MY order in her head and it would work ,except sometimes I got a BREAKFAST meal and sometimes I DIDN'T! :) If I say I want Orange juice, she knows what I want to eat (French Toast Slam w/ 4pcs of Bacon and 2 3 Scrambled eggs. ;)

In the meantime, I have to tell you about an experience that I have gone through MYSELF. We'd been going to a place here in Fort Smith, called "Calico County" for a number of our meals out up here. We've had a few different waitresses there, over time. A week ago last Sunday, I was trimming my beard and  someone had (accidentally) bumped my trimmer and caused the attachment to be a little farther down on the trimmer. This caused me to mess up when I was trimming my beard and I ended up having to shave it ALL off! Well, I don't even recognize myself now! :o ::)  So, then, we went to eat and was preparing to leave, one of the waitresses, a cute little  (sorta) blonde came up and was just going on over how she didn't know we were there and I[/u should ask for her, from now own and her name is Jana].  Sure she has waited on us before, but wasn't quite so outgoing. I mean THIS time, she was just going on like old friends and patting me on the back and telling me to BE SURE and ASK for HER, from now on.  So, it seems that we just might be getting a WAITRESS of our own, right up here in Fort Smith (like my Mom and Dad had down in Little Rock @ Denney's! ;)  My Dad likes the way she takes care of us as well, so THAT'S got to be a plus! :)

I just thought that it was pretty ironic that, as Faye was going out, Jana seemed to be coming in!  8)

Oh Yeah, the Home Cooking type of place and mighty good eatin' as well. Got all kinds of OLD signs and such, on the walls. Even got a picture of an old (1930's) Indian Chief picture with a Hwy 66 sign as well. 8) Lots of memorabilia, even in the men's rest room, not sure about the women's. ::) Place does a TON of business.

I try harder Sam! ;D  Now, if I could just find a place that would have an old Indian motorcycle that I could take for a spin while I'm waiting for my food. :D ;)

Yeah, Dad's doing just fine. I asked him about bringing his card table with chairs, up to his apartment, along with a puzzle (he used to like to do those) and he agreed that it would be good to do that. So, I got the table and chairs, along with a (Brand new Unopened) puzzle from his Home and took them to the apartment. And So, I set up the table and chairs, opened the box (like I said, it was still sealed) and left it at that. I finally, last Sunday got him and Karla to sit down with me and we proceeded to try to put that puzzle together (all 500 pieces) and he was a bit slow to get into it, but after a while he started warming up to it. Now, we didn't finish that puzzle then. And he hasn't touched it since, he says he has looked over at it though.  ::)   Yeah, if nothing else, we'll get back into that puzzle this Sunday and see if it all comes together then, or  if it'll be later on. ;)

Well folks, tomorrow, we  go over to my Dad's apartment, I check his blood sugar, give him his insulin and we head to Little Rock for a "Retirement Party" for Faye (THE waitress who had waited on my Mom and Dad for years (about 25 for my Dad, my Mom passed away in 2002) The part will be at the Denney's in Little Rock, where she worked! For ME, Karla and Joey it is going to be a very long Day. For my Dad, it will be the last time that he will be able to go into THAT Denney's and have a waitress say, "Do you want your usual, as his coffee cup is filled (and SHE always checked that cup as she went by, topping it off if it was down by much at all). Now, on Sunday, as usual, we will be back here and going to Calico County to where we will be treated very well by that waitress there, Jana, who had told me that I need to ask for her. And, I've been doing just that. I have to tell ya, WE are treated very well by her and Ive seen her with other customers enough to see that she gives us more attention than the other customers. I'm not saying that she doesn't take care of the others, she just seems to go further with us. Karla, Joey AND my Dad really like her as well. I'll tell ya, if I was about 20yrs younger.....    But, I'm not!

You know, on another note here, when things changed for me on July the 1st, I figured that, as I got to where I could, I'd just have to pull it together, take care of business and go on.  Well, there have been some things that have happened, that have opened my eyes to the fact that I need some female companionship. I mean, even if it's just someone that I can be with, go out to eat, talk, go to a movie or out to a park and just talk or whatever. It'd be nice if whoever it was, would like to go for an outing on my bike, like take off down hwy 71 or up towards Fayetteville or such as that. Just someone I could go out with and have some fun, no strings attached and, if it went further than that, then so be it. Ah, you'll just have to overlook me, I was just thinking outloud! it's just that, now, when I see an older couple or one my age, and they are together, having fun or just doing SOMETHING together, it gets me to thinking, cause I really miss that. I'm reluctant to approach something though because, I don't know how long is acceptable and I have to consider Karla's feelings on the matter and all. When I met Brenda, all I had to consider was the two of us and hoped that the families would go along with us. Well, I've done it again, I started out to tell you all about the "retirement party and basically "Spilled my Guts!"

                                               I'm outta here,  Bill ::)

                                      Be back tomorrow evening :)

Thought I'd toss an update in here, since I hadn't done so sooner. ::)  I like to see update from others and never really thought about doing it myself. ::)

Anyway, Dad's still dong pretty well. I can always tell when he's feeling better than usual. Cause when I come into his apartment, I say "HEY" and he says "HEY" right back at me and then I say,"How Are You Doing?" and, if he's REALLY feeling good, he says "Anybody I Can and Some Twice!" ::) :D  That's my Dad! Yeah, I can always tell when he feeling real good, cause he get's feisty! ;D We're getting geared up for the Barber's Museum Event in Oct, got the room reserved and sitting on ready. ;)

Yeah, Dad's doing well and we've still got more to do, but, I had to back off in July (when Brenda passed away) and I've had a bit of a time trying to get back into it, but I AM getting there.

Dad's still doing pretty good! Matter of fact, we went to hid Renal Doctor last week for a check up on how he was doing He has some kidney disease that we already knew of. Each time I've had him down to Little Rock, he's always been maintaining his own. This time, I got the call about the results of his lab work and was told that everything looked good AND the report on his kidney indicated improvement! I thought THAT was cool! I told the nurse that I guess we were doing SOMETHING  right huh? Of course she agreed! 8) ;) So, we forge ahead! ;D

Thanks for that Mick. Fact is. I try to keep juices on hand for him. I keep some Orange juice, Grape Juice and Grapefruit juice in his fridge. (they have to be premixed with thickener and I use "Simply Thick" and fix up 4 small bottles of each juice and try to keep him supplied with those. He drinks them up pretty steadily. I also try to keep him a variety of sugar free puddings and a selection of some packaged fruit as well. And I keep some peanutbutter on crackers, cheese on crakers, Cheez-its & Fig Newtons. Occasionally I get some sugar free chocolate candies too. Yeah, you might say that he's getting spoiled. ::)

Sure felt good to hear that he had an improvement in something. 8)
BTW, he doesn't care about drinking water, Says it will rust your stomach! :D ;)

Yeah, water can get pretty boring. Most juices are mainly water and i drink lots of tea, as long as it is fluid it helps... ;)

we're all happy here Bill, to hear that your dad is doing pretty good. that has to be a blessing my friend.

Well, I'll tell you, they are still living in the house that my Dad is paying for.
I was in the process of providing the lawyer info so he could go after them and get my Dad's things back and, well, July 1st rolled around and went over ME like a "STEAM ROLLER" and I just haven't seemed to have gotten myself back in gear to finish that up. I will have to, but Brenda was my Driving Force, you know? SHE was my backup, My reason for Living, SHE was My EVERYTHING! I just have to get my act together, fax the lawyer the info AND get on with it. S & S knows what's coming, they just don't know when! With Brenda gone, I also have to make arrangements to make sure Karla and Joey are taken care of, IF I have to take  my Dad down to Little Rock to see the lawyer or do whatever. Before, I always had Brenda to take up the slack and she did just that (at a moments notice).  ;)

Yeah, every "Good Report" that he gets, makes me feel REAL good and also knowing that THEY (S & S) have NO CONTROL over him or his assets, is a GOOD feeling too! ;)

                                  Thanks ALL, Bill
