I will stick by what I say. A stock cb will not beat a sabre/magna, nor a mild cb. It takes quite a bit to do it. Can it be done? Yes it can, at least in a drag. Once you throw in hard corners? Well I don't think so but I doubt there is any road race between the 2 so it is a Q that will probably never be answered. If there is proof, then link the source, not just a quote.

Now if there is this much work going into the cb, what if the same was done to the v65? While hard to find any data on v65 engine work, I would bet the v65 would consistently beat the cb then.  Just like I would be pretty sure a busa would beat the v65.

Does this mean I do not like the cb? Of course not. I just like the v65 as well. Clearly that is not a crime as many here have bikes other than the cb.

This is the last I will debate it. I stand by what I say as there has been no linked info otherwise, just possible copy/paste.

Here's a bike called The Executioner. It had a 900cc kit, stock 1970 cam. The gas tank is fiberglass Bondurant ( 3.2 gal ) and the bike weight 380 pounds. Owned by Bob Exley

380 pounds? Thats close to dropping 1/3rd the weight of the bike? At that rate, everything had to be lightened. Lot of custom machine work it sounds like. I mean, I suppose if the motor lost weight, it would be down to about 180 pounds or so? That still only leave 200 for everything else. Do you have more info on how that much weight was saved?

I ask that not so much for myself but many here go on the weight loss quest and this might help them out. besides, it is interesting.

750 motor weighs 175 from the factory...I've got my 75F down to 430 wet, from 530. All I did was change the exhaust, went to a fiberglass seat, some different signals, cross drilled and lightened front brake rotor and a few other small things...no major surgery required...

I would like to know more about how you got to 430 wet. I've put my 78 750k on a diet and I've gotten down to approx. 455 lbs dry. Unless my digital bath scale is wrong?? My 4 into 1 exhaust is only 13 lbs 2 ozs., removed the stock air box for pods, cut the rear foot pegs brackets off, took just over 5 lbs off the stock seat, drilled the front rotor,shortened both fenders quite a bit, have very small turn signals and tail light, no ctr.stand and replaced the stock foot pegs with cbr 1000 r foot pegs, no tach or center light cluster. Granted my rear wheel and tire might be heavier - 16" rim and 5.1" wide tire. I'm really having trouble find places for weight loss, and your down 100 lbs wet. I'm impressed.

Yes I can't quite see the changes you mention adding up to 100lbs.  Stock exhaust was already a 4-1 although a heavy one no doubt.  How confident are you with those before and after weights?

Sorry if I'm being a skeptic here but I strongly doubt that the bike in magazine pic is anywhere close to 380lbs.  I would add atleast 50lbs to that number!. . . . .

I do have to admit that I weighed the bike on a WSDOT truck scale, with a half tank of fuel, I just whipped in off of the freeway to find a rough weight on the bike... now I have to go and weigh it on a certified scale somewhere...

That seat probably weighs 30 lbs.

If I remember correctly, the engine is actually close to 200 pounds if not over, including starter. That was actually posted here a few times. Something like 214 pounds.

Thank God for that, I thought I was losing my strength, as I get older I'm finding it harder to pull one out of the frame and lift it up onto my work bench!

W/o carbs, but with starter, is closer to 168 lbs than 200 lbs..

I found something Bob posted about a year ago and the weight was listed as something like 176 with oil. So that is significantly less than 200. Dump the oil and starter and stator and I would guess the weight is closer to 120 - 130 pounds. Hell that is less than the EQ rack I get to lug around once in a while!

Thanks for that 1080. I like the style of the seat on this bike. I prefer this type of fiberglass bodywork compared to the Tracy bodywork. Amazing paint job as well. Thanks for posting! Keep them coming if you have them  I like the mods and history of a bike if you know it.
