This 'solution' did not survive for long, you mentioned the reasons why. Back in the early 70's the Honda disks were one of the larger ones. These were endurance bikes and they tried to gain braking power without applying to much pressure so the riders would have a easier task during their long runs. Did not work.

Better sorry for failing then for the lack of trying.

Hey Terry, those Cerriani's i have for you have a brembo on them as well but you don't want that do you mate.... ;D

Mick

Ha ha, you know I do want it Mick, you big teaser! ;D

Terry, think I lost that pic in time. But to show that there are more solutions here what Japauto did with 4 AP calipers to a CR front.

Cheers, Rob

That looks magnificent Rob! Yeah, yeah, I know, heavy, impracticle, blah blah blah, but it has a "cool" quotient of 9.95! Anyway, I need the extra weight to keep the front wheel down! ;D

there is another method to mount brembo or ap calipers to the oem fork legs: in the 70ies, I remember, I weldet small brackets to the fork leg fitting to the calipers. pure and simple.

mec

That's right Mec, over here in Oz, Rex Wolfendon (TRex Racing) welds brackets onto CB750 legs to mount period Lockheed and Brembo calipers (and maybe AP as well?) to his CB750 based Post Classic Racers, as the rules call for original frame and forks, but there is some flexibility on brakes, if they were available "back in the day". Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

a bit late jumping in to this but hey, just came back form holidays!

as many racers here, got tired too from my stock twin disc set up, going for brembo's for next season.

with it being a 500, the brembo's F05 looked good enough, many racers here are using them, and their pretty cheap too.
+ a 3 lbs /1.5 kg less un-sprung weight is not bad either.

I also tried to see if the bigger, F08 brembo's would fit but if you are using a twin disc like me, there's no clearance to the spokes unless you go for triple clamps with bigger distance between the tubes or totally different hub. dont have time/money for either

The idea is basically the same as in the "hales honda" but with my setup i didnt have to machine the slider as they did. the deep milling in the bottom bolt (fender stay bolt) is quite a critical as it really weakens the area where one of the spindle studs attach. also the shaving of the fork doesnt look so safe to me but maybe on a 350 it's acceptable.

hadnt run it yet, will tell you how it works after my first 2009 race in about three months....

Cheers
Tg

Hey TG,

Good solution! Agree with your comment about the 'hales' solution, though the forces on that lower attachment point not so not big. The shaving off the lower leg concerns me on a heavier bike. Followed another route, using the lower legs of a DOHC 750 ( almost the same as the F2).
Keep us informed about the progress on the circuits.

Cheers, Rob

Hi, Vox. About those DOHC 750 forks... Are they 35mm, and are they the same length or longer than the SOHC CB750K?  I've collected a few sets of '77-'78 "F" forks but I really don't like the look of the ridged lowers, especially with AP calipers.  I know I can use CB1100 calipers with their bracket on the "F" forks as well as the late GL1000's but I'm getting interesting in adapting some of my AP calipers and iron rotors to Honda forks.

Any pics of your setup would be greatly appreciated.

BTW, are you planning on going to SPA this year?  RR

So, how's everybody's brake upgrades coming along? I am still on the fence with my setup and am having second thoughts on the GL1000 front end. My main issue is just liking the CB front fork styling better than the GL. And my front fork assembly, headlight, ears, etc are all in very good shape. And I was thinking, if I have to make an adapter plate anyway. . . I might as well just shape one to match the CB forks?

I don't know. I need to figure this out though, and SOON! It was 68 degrees here in Seattle today!

Direct fit no mods!!! you have to email him though as its not a regular check out item on his page!!! its a WAY better rotor than the stock one comes pre drilled the rotor surface is made out of better material and its the correct thickness and its a floating rotor so it is less likely to warp!!! anyways i love the look and i wanted to "paint" Inner hub to make it look like the stock part ;)

I so want one of those rotors... is yours all functional yet, or still in the works? I would love some feedback on these rotors before I drop that much coin.

Well here is  my take although not a nice as some of the other hangers but I
guess i like the rough look/tooling marks etc. this set up is a Brembo and a FZR600 rotor/EPM wheels
The second is a GL wheel with ZX6 6 pot calipers with Titanium hangers
with RC51 Rotors.

And I did have to shave the back of the ZX6 calipers to work with the stock GL wheel
The clearance from rotor to inside of fork leg is a safe .250.

Besides this rotor from Dynoman is there a 320mm rotor from another bike that will bolt up to our 750 hubs?   I have a set of R1 calipers left over from a V-Max project that I would like to use.

look:

I rebuild my M/C with the 77/78K honda kit
installed braided lines
rebuilt my caliper (new piston and seal from ebay)
put EBC kevlar reinforced pads

after all that my brakes feel MUCH more confident (besides my front end dive :( from sagging springs ) i feel great pouring my bike at 70+ into a 25mph sharp corner the brakes feel great the feedback is awesome! ya its not a modern brake system but it sure does stop GREAT and i did the same with the EBC drum shoes and buffed up (scratched) the drum and i have my adjustment nice and tite! i can lock up the rear @ 80+ its all in how you maintain everything

I am planning on getting that rotor from dynoman i dont like the stock one at all its heavy and its made out of infiriour metals as far as other rotors that fit its hard to say the cb750 spoked wheel doesnt give much clearence for bigger brakes!

Wow! That rotor looks bad ass! How long has that been on the market? I remember calling EBC a few months back to ask them if they had an early CB750 replacement rotor and at that time they didn't. Stoked  :D
I'm going to try that out first before I try fabricating/spending lots of time figuring out the GL swap or modified stock setup. Path of least resistance  ;D

Jim: Man, you've got some nice set ups! Race ready!

Hi, Big Jim... What forks are you using with the EPM wheels?  And what diameter are the tubes? Thanks!  RR

Hi Andy;

Is this a direct bolt on? Any mods required?

The EBC rotor is a direct bolt-on, no mods.
The braking surface drilling is a bit different than the photo posted earlier in this thread.

Bike Bandit also offers the 77-78 CB750 EBC rotor:

http://www.bikebandit.com/product/10494?mg=990&t=1&td=1

I installed it over the winter along with SS Hella lines, 2008 Kawasaki EX250R (Ninja) master cylinder, and a Pazzo billet adjustable lever.
Front brake performance with the OEM single caliper is very good; I suspect my single disc set-up would compare favorably with a vintage dual disc.

Toxic I just fit Ducati floater 320mm on a Yamaha mag. Bpattern is same for the Ducati, Yam, Honda on the 6 bolt type.

I believe centre hole on Duc is larger & may need spacer to move off set out. Weigh about 4 lbs with steel centres.

So. . . there any difference between early cb750 brake setups ie 69-76k and 77/78 k bikes? I just want to be certain before shelling out the dough that this setup will work on my CB750 K4.

Might help explain why the EBC listing doesn't show anything for the early K bikes. But is there really any difference?

You WILL need to space them out if you are putting them on a Yamaha wheel.

The 320mm Ducati rotors were designed with small tolerances in mind. The calipers need to be removed from the stock Ducati before the wheel or anything can come out. And you can barely fit a credit card between the calipers and a wheel spoke on the mid 90's mag wheels.

Even if you use the whole front end off of a Ducati, you will need to shave your calipers a little to clear the spokes if using a wire wheel.

Never tried it using a Yamaha front end though. Can't Imgaine that'd be any easier.

Also- I have these available as well.
Free shipping.

EBC Standard Brake Rotors

75-76 CB750F
77-78 CB750K
Front or Rear: $189.99

The only downside is they'll immediately be put on back order.
So if there's enough of a demand, maybe they'll ship em faster.

I'll discount the pads also with the rotor purchase. None of which will be on back order.

75-76 CB750F Front: $28.00 pair / Rear Pads: $25.00
77-78 CB750K Front: $28.00 pair / Rear Shoes: $35.00
