I understand your predicament. After I built the 550 for Deb, her cherry 400F sat under a cover in my shop. Even properly stored it doesn't do them any good sitting untouched. Eventually they're in the way and something falls on them & dents the tank or a pipe...

They are built to be ridden, someone might as well enjoy them. As much as I hated to, I sold the 400 that had been in my possession for over 30 years. Tintop bought it and won BOTM.

End of story.  ;)

I find these" having to sell my pride and joy" stories just heartwrenching . Every now and then I think perhaps thinning the heard could be a good idea, then , the idea of seller's remorse kicks in.
I know that I would only get another project bike so I could do basically the same thing all over again (maybe some improvements along the way). So I've never thinned the heard, not one, but I have made changes to a few of the machines I don't ride if they've been sitting around awhile. Keeps me busy , the machines current with no sellers remorse, and no buyers remorse either.
Bike storage space  for me hasn't been much of an issue for me, but  I think if it ever was, the first thing I would do would be decorate the inside of the house with them. Next would be the purchase of enough sheds, or an overseas container to house the collection. Hell, I 've already made bills of sales out to my kids should anything happen to me, they just register them in their names , so these mechanical members of my family get instantly adopted by my own flesh and blood, no lawyers, no BS state restrictions or taxation. But that's just what I do.
Again, I'm feel really bad for you, makes me all teary.
Wouldn't a nice piece of glass over the top of it in the living room make a nice table/side-stand or bar?
   Just heartbreaking.

Thanks everyone.

I wish I had a heck of a lot more space and time to ride all of my bikes, but when you are in the process of building a "better than" bike of the same model, and a new modern bike, you feel less attachment.  I do love this bike, and at times I have not -- like some relationships, right.  Getting it to this point taught me more than a few hard lessons.

For now, I am working on cleaning her up and deciding her fate.

Don, how about a swap? I've got 4 kids and a wife up for trade. You may choose the pick of the litter. All are housebroken, all can clean up after themselves, some are handy with tools, some are better with brooms, vacs, and pans...

You decide! I do deliver and pick up. Shall we say next Sunday to give you a good long last weekend or two for a goodbye ride?

Nine Lives will go to a go good home, well cared for, looked after with only the best materials and loving hands. No children will ride her and scratch her up. And you can even come visit in the autumn to pilot her through the foliage on the Blue Ridge Parkway. How could any deal be better than that?

Ride my motorcycle in a velvet smoking jacket and vest???  I never would have considered in until I knew it was for a worthy charity.

Here's a video just released from the Los Angeles Distinguished Gentleman's Ride, Sept. 28, 2014, covering the Griffith Park gathering and ride to Deus, via Hollywood, Sunset Blvd and the PCH, as well as our second leg down Hwy. 10 to DTLA and the final wrap party at the ACE Hotel.

An estimated 480 riders raised just under $50,000 towards Prostate Cancer research, making Los Angeles the number one fundraising city in the US and fifth in the world. LA was third, behind London and Sydney is terms of participants. Worldwide, the DGR raised $1.5 million.

Nine Lives won the Best Café Bike award!

I noticed I had a sizable paint chip on the seat where it meets the rear frame rail.  Since I am contemplating selling the bike, I mentioned it to my painter Bondo and he sanded, re-sprayed the back (feathering in the missing paint) and re-clearcoated it.  Freaking flawless.

Took the Nine Lives bike out to the 1st Annual Seal Beach Vintage Motorcycle Show -- http://tankfarmco.com/motorcycle-show/

Lots of great bikes, including a meticulously restored K4, Yamaha and HD trackers, , Deus Ex Machina TA250 racer, Roland Sands Indian street tracker, a Kawasaki H2, BMWs, Triumphs, a '33 Crocker, '48 Panhead HD, and an over-the-top Hazan custom with outrageous metal work and a supercharger.

The H2 won best Japanese bike and Hazan won Best in Show

I noticed some spots on the top of my gas tank near the seam on which I had panels welded in to replace pinholed metal.  It looks like not all of the rust/cancer was isolated.

My painter Bondo is taking those portions down to bare metal to investigate.  If necessary, the tank might need an expanded patch, some body work and feathered-in black paint.

My painter Bondo called. He stripped the paint where the spots were (on the top of the gas tank) down to metal. No rust/cancer evident! We can only guess that it might be a pinhole causing gas to push out toward the paint. So the tank will get another coating of sealer to address any lingering pinholes, than a little paint touch up. I hope to have the old girl back on the road soon.

That's great news Don! I'm sure it'll be good to get everything buttoned up and have it back home again.

A buddy of mine, Jeremy Lacy, is an industrial designer and a pretty outstanding illustrator.  He just sketched my 750 based on a photo.  I thought it came out pretty damn awesome.

A hearty WOOOHOOO!!!  The replacement headlight bucket arrived in the mail this afternoon, and it FITS!!  I should have this baby back on the road tomorrow!!!  I cannot wait.

CB750 Cafe Racer Fan...
I know this is an old post, but do you have any recollection of what bucket you finally purchased that worked and where you got it.  I'm wondering if it's still available to house my new Truck-Lite.

Thanks,
Mark

Mark,

I do not recall exactly who I purchased it from but it is an Emgo Chrome 7" headlight bucket.  I believe the part number is 66-64312.

You can find them for around $40.
