Yeah those are the ones ive been looking at as well, 100 bucks for 2 shipped from the UK doesn't seem that bad once you consider the alternative of buying OEM ones.

Great thread and site.  I just picked up this 77 last week. 20,000 miles on it and it ran well.  I am completely going through the bike.





Can anybody tell me if this is true.  The 77-78 F2's were notorious for top spring retainer failure, causing severe damage.  While I have the motor out getting a good going over I want to fx any potential issues.

When I bought my F, the PO had already bought new ones. Dont know where he got them, but they fit perfect. Have you tried asking about these? I have no experience with them, just offering another location ...

I have been searching through posts since I got the bike because I knew I would need new side covers, some people like these and others say they are a hassle to get the right fit, all just a matter of preference I guess.

I too have recently acquired a 77 750 F2.  Please elaborate on the "top spring retainer" failure.  I have not heard of this.  I am tearing down my bike for refurbishment, engine is fine as far as I know so I don't plan on getting into the internals unless there is a good reason.

I have read that the valve spring retainers are stamped steel and have been known to fail.  This can lead to engine damage.  Read link.

I am not sure if I am going to mess with mine or not.  I may just ride it and if there is a problem do a 836 down the road.

I believe the right side covers are the same for the 75-76 and the 77-78 CB750F's. (Other than the colours). The left side covers are different. Hope that helps.

What was the color on the 76 f1? The pictures look like it was a flat black, i was just wondering if someone knew for sure.

   Right about the 75/76 side covers though the 77/78 side covers were the color of the tank/rear cowl. And as mentioned earlier the right covers fit all 4 years of F's while the lefts are particular to either 75/76 or 77/78 making the lefts for either, one of the harder to find F parts...original anyway. I've heard nothing but good things about the LPM covers and they're cheaper than just about any originals you'll see on feebay. A few years ago there was a real feeding frenzy on the 77/78 left covers and they were sometimes going for as much as $100. They might still be but I no longer look...because I don't have to.

I recently ordered a left side cover from LPM.  It arrived from England in less than two weeks, is very good quality, an exact match to the original, and fits the bike just right.  It comes in black.
