A new development has occurred in this last week though... I went with a friend to get some CX 500 parts for his bike this last weekend and the seller had an old CB 750 (minus the engine and other stuff) in his shed. He said he'd like to get rid of it for a fair price. Bam! I may have myself a dual front disc brake! Me and my friend plan to get it this next Wednesday.

Otherwise, I'm still waiting on my crank.

Does the 750 have a clean title?

I didn't ask, and I doubt the seller cared because he bought it without an engine and I think he just wanted to scavenge parts off of it. I plan to ask, but I doubt it's titled. If it's not titled, I may just take the frame (alone) to the police and see if I can title it. A titled frame would be nice, but I was more interested in the other parts. And the price he wanted was more than fair, even if it's not titled. (Been thinking about a dual front disc for a long time....)

I don't really know, and I'm afraid to venture a guess, because the old-timers that know better would probably laugh at me.

Maybe somewhere between a 10 to 35 percent increase...? Any number I give would barely be better than a guess.

Thank you Scott. It's a SOHC4 patch on my 20-year old jacket. I thought it might make for a good picture.

Just got word from APE that my crank is done and will ship today!
I should get it in about four business days!

(Forgot to ask how much they charged and what all they did though...

That's what happens when you're too excited.)

I know they lightened and balanced it though, which was the main objective.

I picked up this guy Friday.

Yes, I know the engine's missing.

Anyway, the idea was to get that front disc brake and make a dual front brake on my project bike. D'oh! The K6 has a different fork and brake (and fender mounts). So if I want a dual front brake, I'll have to put this front end on my K4, and use the K4 stuff on the project bike. I'm not keen on the idea of a K4 bike with a K6 front, but I'm considering it.

This K6 has some other stuff I can use though (not much, but some stuff...).

As a "parts bike" it looks to be in pretty good shape. Nice find.

So, just curious, how much weight were you able to get off that clutch basket? (I'm afraid everything I own would look like that if I had easy access to a drill press.)

Well, poop. After three beers, I learned that the front brake on a K2 is not interchangeable with the front brake on a K4 which is not exactly symmetric with the front brake on a K6. (The front brake on a K6 should fit a K4 bolt pattern, but the brake itself looks different, and I'm a stickler for symmetry.) => No dual front brake for the time being.

Doctor_D, I have learned that I am not a patient person... I usually dive right in, and only after several holes are drilled, I think, "Hey, maybe I should've weighed it before I started drilling...". So I don't know the initial weight of the clutch basket. I was planning on weighing the entire assembly afterward, and comparing it to the entire assembly of the spare I have (I was going to weigh the entire assembly only because I'm too lazy to disassemble the spare). However... I do have a final weight for the clutch basket - it currently weighs 949 grams. But you have to keep in mind, on rotating parts, it's not only the decrease in weight that counts, but also the decrease in the moment of inertia. Ultimately, it is the moment of inertia that governs how fast it can spin up.

By the way, are you a doctor in real life? So am I. I have a Ph.D. in physics.

Will the decrease in strength to the clutch basket have any effect on how long the part lasts or is strength not important in this situation?? Also will everything still oil properly??

I'm overeducated, but not a Doc. But, my folks wanted a doc in the family, so my little brother's first initials are M.D. and mine are D.R. Closest I got to it was being Army medic, of which I was one when I was in ROTC in the late '80's and early '90's.

These are good questions that I don't have the answer to. My hunch, of course, is that there will not be a strength issue. And, of course, I'm also assuming it will have a minimal effect on any oiling considerations. But the nice thing about having a spare, is that if I flocked it up, well... I have a spare.

However, if there's an old-timer that's shaking their head looking at that basket, please speak now before I get myself into trouble. I'll be the first to admit that I tend to jump into things without fully considering the implications.
