Yamiya sell NEW improved tripples without need of the spacer! With and without an additional hole in the horny part. What is the hole for?

It cost some to restore gauges. I have a complete K2 set shipping my way right now, hopefully no beginning of cracks. It need some new parts, bottom covers, faces, glasses, seals, fasteners ... Yamiya has it all.

The old gauge setup is a vital part of the specific bikes design.
Important to be aware of how the gauge is designed to be illuminated. I have a K6 restored tacho that has very bright white light while my stock speedo has a nice green light. I noticed that the inside of top steel covers has to be painted green which must be the answer.
The older gauges might have been painted inside too...

Just drain the wallet!! An old CB750 is like a prostitute, need money all the time and difficult to resist! ;)

Well there it is, no need to go wild making things when you can buy one already improved. With the hole is for the Japanese domestic speed warning light.

I can't make myself tighten up the pinch bolts. They are snug and the washer still floats.  I may need to remove the top triple before I go further and make sure there's no corrosion in the holes.

Don, I think the washers are supposed to float...that's why I don't think they really do anything.

The D washers tightened up on my K3. They do not move. Maybe check thickness, could be too thin. Yamiya stuff is good, if pricey. But hey, I'm not complaining.

My D washers always tightened up before too. Then I found one broken and broke the next one L0L! I bought a bike with a broken one and also got a bike that had no D washers, it was fine so who knows?

It's a new set Frank, I'm not sure I remember the source. Z1 maybe?
Checking the OD is a good idea. I bought this new set for another bike and decided my keeper needs the new parts so I did a three bike fork tube swap. K0, early K2, and drag bike.

  • So, what do ya wanna talk about today?
Thanks to another member here with sharp eyes, I scored a K0 triple in Texas with handlebar clamps and all the bolts for 135 bucks shipped yesterday, so I won't have to worry about welding up my spare triple for the next build. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

  Good deal Terry.

I got the gauges on and everything's almost all wired back up with dielectric grease and clean contacts. Why is it those perfect turn signals you've been saving in a nice dry box in a plastic tote grow pits and gouges before you get around to using them? I guess I was hoping they were perfect, close but not so much. As it turns out the two right side signals and one left all have the orange tag on the wire.

Headlight tomorrow after I vote for the Primary candidate representing least of my fears. Then I'm setting the old gas tank on and checking the float valves again before putting the painted airbox on. through filters of course.

My Yamiya order came today from Joseph F Marks. I really need to figure out the photo problem I have. curse the photobucket.

I got the wiring done, my only question was does white/yellow go into white. My factory service manual came out of the plastic bag but I saw no yellow in the diagram except the dyno and ign switch I think. I do have a Pamco but it all terminates at the coils. Anyway everything seems to work. Next, I tried to put on the headlight, I was sure the old one was tweaked and I'd nick paint so I used a new one I had saved for such an occasion. I left the halogen light assembled but off and put on an old Stanley sealed beam.
I gravity bled the brake with towels covering everything painted.

Just then I heard the front garage door make a loud noise and went up front to check. A torsion spring broke and unwound pitching off the cables. Menards has the correct one in stock so that's my tomorrow project.

I added fuel to the freshly cleaned carbies and they're spewing gas. At minimum it's the o rings on the fuel tees. I let them dry out over the winter. Bwwwaaaah.

Next up, testing the petcock rebuild.

I've never replaced those O rings Don, are they a special size? Float needles are my biggest bug bear, but I completely stripped the last set I installed, and used Simple Green to clean everything.

The SG was a bit harsh on the pot metal that the carbs are cast from, but it cleaned all the brass bits magnificently, and the only time they leaked was when I left it on the side stand for a week with the petcock on.

I've still got to drill the jets even bigger as it's still running too lean, but unlike the other set of carbs I had on it, at least the carbs aren't dribbling fuel everywhere.......... ;D

I actually own an ultrasonic cleaner so this is the perfect time to try it out on carbs. I bought simple green purple cleaner, I'm told it's easier on our carbs than the green, these things need a good outside cleaning anyway. The engine had a tweaked rocker cover that let some oil seep out and blow back.  I sanded it on glass and went back to the allen bolts.
The o rings are 7.8 x 1.8 mm. That comes in the harbor freight o ring kit so I have plenty. I'm told 8x2 mm works well also.

Thanks Don, I've got one of those generic O ring kits, so I'm guessing I'll have the correct size if I ever need them. ;D

The carbs are apart mostly, I'll heat up the parts cleaner tomorrow. We have a winter storm advisory for tonight and the am so the shop will be a good place to be. The good news is the petcock is holding a couple gallons (with a half oz of 2 stroke oil) when off and with a fuel line looped there are no seeps both on and res.
This k4 836 sure is an ugly motor. When rebuilt, it was going on an ugly bike. Now, the engine holds the bike back. I'm considering a bit of silver paint touch-up on the cases and barbeque black on the fins. I have the carbs off it won't get any easier anytime soon.

Don: send me your address, I'll send you some 2x8mm O-rings for those tees. The stock ones on the K0 with 1 O-ring each side was 2x8, and the later ones with doubled-up O-rings are the more commonly found 1.9x7.8 (or sometimes 7.9) size. I have about 100 of the 2x8 on hand, and they will usually stop the dried-out-leaks problem.

This must be the craziest color to photograph. In some pictures it's too dark and too green. In others it looks light and blue. This is under LED light.

Thanks Larry. The paint that looked so dark indoors in winter really comes alive in the sun. It's got green in it now too. It still needs a set of 300's.
