Painted my triples and fork clamps. From the build thread...

PAINT!

Both fork holders needed paint after some run-ins with brake fluid.

Cleaned and prepped:

After two coats in the affected areas, then two coats over the whole piece to even out the slight difference in colour, all is hanging until I get to them on my next shop night, to install the bearings.

as i've had no offers of help with sorting the seized (sometimes) kickstart i thought i'd get started on the twin disc conversion. i've gor CB900F forks in stock CB750K6 clamps and i want to use the stock 750 wire wheel so......

got new through bolts (longer) to hold both discs as well as speedo drive - still too short, no matter they'll do for mock up, can get longer ones later. next problem - the thickness of the second disc pushes the speedo drive further out from the hub and therefore the hub is too wide to fit between the fork lowers.

tried several combos of axle, spacers, axle end bolt thingy but every time the result was the same- hub too wide.

the best result i can think of is to ditch the speedo drive completely, make up new spacers for the axle and fit a digital speedo (or maybe GPS speedo)

this also means i can turn the fork lowers round so the calipers will be on the front of the forks which looks better and cools better

i'm not in the slightest bit worried about originality (the frame and engine cases will prob be the only stock bits when i'm finished) so losing the stock speedo (and tacho for that matter) can only make the whole front end look neater and will be combining with the smallest (vaguely) legal headlight and indicators

got to work out how i'm going to mount the digi speedo trigger magnet to the wheel or disc and the reader unit to the forks but i'm waiting a response from someone who's fitted such a thing to the disc on his Vmax, so we shall see (might fit one the Vmax too - can't look any worse than the stock speedo 'pod')
i blame Terry

If I was a younger guy I mighta gotten pissed off. This damn close!! #$%*!!

Yeah, 1 link short a chain... One brick shy a load  ;) This is due to the 77/78 CB750F swing arm conversion. That's a damn good chain too  :'(  Notice the 'stop' piece for the adjusting bolt to push against in the open ended swing arm which the 75/76 does NOT have. Really only needed a half link to get it to sit down on the sprocket. That's as far forward as it will go. Time to source a strong 104 link 530 chain!! Wondering if I should go 106? Plenty of adjustment room still?? Any suggestions on a good site to look?

Hey Jerry, is that an RK X Ring chain? I've got a spare 10 links of new chain hanging in my garage from a chain I bought for my GS1000 but ended up putting on my CB750, if you can wait a bit, I can send it across the pond? Cheers, Terry. ;D

Tensile strength Evan, big differences in strength, that Diamond chain is about 6400 LBS, the better O/X/Z ring chains are up to 11,000 lbs tensile strength, they support up to and over 200HP, far stronger ... ;)

Gotcha. I guess like most things the better quality ones can withstand more force.

Why aren't standard roller chains made at higher tensile strength?

Probably because they are old technology now, O/X/Z rings hold in grease around the moving parts and help keep dirt and grime out, they naturally last longer, you still lube them manually on the outside though, like any other chain..  In the day of the old Honda's, the biggest Japanese bikes were lucky to have 80HP, some now have over 200HP.... ;)

Yeah, I'd stretch and or snap that Diamond at 6.600 lb in a heart beat. Thanks for the link though. Yeah, the thing used to be o-ring for those of us lazy enough to ignore the lube job. Plus they had to start making them stronger and lighter for the stronger bikes. Now they've gone x-ring and w-ring for less friction and additional sealing with the X and W configuration points. Probably more of a selling point but in theory........ don't we always want the latest and greatest  ;)

Terry, it is an RK. It's a strong MF'er (like me haha). Rarely have, errr, had to adjust it but that was with the puny 812 that was probably mid 70+ HP. I'm anticipating close to 100hp this go around. The offer is appreciated but I'll go ahead and bite the bullet and get one ordered. This will make a nice spare/replacement for the other bike from which it came.

I was just doing a little research and ran across a good deal on a Tsubaki Sigma o-ring 110 link at 10,000/10,600? It stated for 'off road'. Any idea why it's labeled that way vs 'and/or for street'??

Since I can't ride I'm now playing with adapting a 750 A solid state reg/rect to replace my original units. May be as simple as replacing the connector and combining or neglecting the extra red and green. I'll report back on this little project tomorrow. Couple fluid leaks to square away too. Oil line at engine? and either front brake caliper seal or brake fluid.

Standard chains? Strength? Not needed and PRICE point. No sense in overkill on a standard bike.

Welded up a hole that the road put in my 4 into 1 when I took a roundabout too quickly (was trying to keep up with my father who is a master at getting through them real quick - he's in his seventies so has had more practice than me!).
While I had it off, I repacked the noisy aftermarket muffler for the third time, this time not so tightly, but, like the previous two times it didn't make it noticeably quieter at all! :(
Looks like I may soon start work on getting the original one I scored for it to fit (the outlet of my 4 into 1 is too big to fit in the muffler so I'll have to modify it - or un-modify it I should say!) - but then I just know I will be complaining that it's too damn quiet! :)
