My Bike got a box of new oil today. 12 bottles American oil.
Spectro Heavy Duty 20W-50 mineral as I have read about here in a serious thread about the good lubrication. Fully loaded with zinc...
Thanks to this post http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php/topic,119643.msg1700716.html#msg1700716

Ordered from Germany. I can order locally but shipping from Germany is often cheaper than Sweden domestic.
I recommend this seller for us in Europe in need

Hey I recognize that cover Danny, but I better not comment cause I am an ass !  ;D
Since I knew they weather called for freezing temps and ice and snow storms here in Michigan this weekend I brought a homework project home from the shop. I restored the gauge cluster on my Yellow F'er 750 project. Pretty much the last piece of the puzzle to get the front end all back together officially. Used some Rustoleum semi-gloss black and they came out very nice after a bunch of prep though my pics are crappy. Forgot to take a before pic but you can see in the last one what one of the gauge plates looked like  ::) Black housing had rust and corrosion as well. Bike has very low miles but lived in a shed at one time. Lots of elbow grease and paint and polish will have her lookin' good again.  Won't be too much longer and I will have my second F,er done this spring and move on to something different.

How did you get the chrome back plates to look so good starting with the plate in the last pic?

Well Lash that one in the last picture will be going to the scrap pile. It is too far gone. I luckily had an old loose pair of 1976 K gauges in my stash. At one time the owner had just cut the wires instead of unplugging them and the speedo was showing around 36,500 miles on it. Luckily they were in pretty good shape and the plates are the same as the F1 Supersport so I used those. 69-75 K plates are different.

The gauges look really good! Did you open them and cleaned inside too?

Nope PeWe. I broke down the overall gauge assembly and the instrument backs.Taped off the lenses and bodies  after prepping for paint and shot some primer and semi gloss black. Painted the mount and cleaned and waxed the chrome plates, nuts etc and put it back together. Probably a total of 5 hours or so of futzing with them over the course of an afternoon/evening. Exciting Saturday night !!  :D :D Never had very many gauge problems with these 750's so fingers crossed that the guts are good. Too many other things to do on this project to take too long on one thing   ;)

Set the valves on the 550. Fired right up and idles nice and clean. I also managed to break the tach drive and housing. I installed a new o-ring and apparently it is just a bit to fat and when tightening the housing bolt it snapped in half and broke the tang on the drive gear too. Total destruction. Fortunately I was able to retrieve my last spare from my storage unit before it closed so I will install it tomorrow.

Got the carbs on the 750 thanks to 3 brand new Honda insulators Moto Guild had in his case of misc stuff. Tony sold them to me for $25 plus some good beer to be provided. Decided to replace the 125 main jets in the carb with the replica 105's in the carb kits I bought. They'll do to get it running.

I also confirmed the starter button is destroyed, but I ordered a replacement last night in anticipation,  should be here next week. Managed to lose the little ball bearing, so I need to track down a replacement. I might have a right switch in my stash, but I can't check until Saturday due to the stupid hours Public Storage  is open during the week.

Hopefully you have a starter switch that uses that plastic housing. I repaired one on a K6 last year. Earlier 750's then that did not use that housing and had a different set-up for the button. Hopefully your spare 550/750 is of the same type. That ball bearing is a teeny little thing !
I was working on my yellow F1 project today and put all the wiring back together from a complete front end tear down. All the lights, blinkers etc worked great but nothing from the starter button. CRAP- Did some testing and swapped out the solenoid and all good now. Must have froze up. Thought I was going to have to tear my button apart but luckily not so.

Mine will turn over when you short across the solenoid. My switch does have the housing,  that's what's left of it in the 2nd picture.

Those 2 pictures look like my bike.............

I see now, I have the harness wrapped to the wrong frame part.

My carb tops hit the wires when opened to full throttle.

Can you post a pix of how the throttle cables are routed?

Thanks

Danny, anytime you short out the two large posts, the starter will turn over... this isn't testing the solenoid for proper function, however. You need a +12vdc jumper from the battery + to the + side of the solenoid small actuation wiring. That will energize the relay in the solenoid, and then turn over the starter if your solenoid is functioning properly...

I had a good idea my solenoid was bad when I put a 12v cheapie probe with a light into the yellow with stripe wire connection coming off the unit and ground the clip of probe to the engine fins. When I pressed the start button the light lit up and went off when I let it go so knew it was getting power there.
Even though I swapped it with another and it works now I will have to open it up and check it out. Think it worked a couple years ago when I first got the bike and checked out the engine to see if it was a 'keeper'.

Thanks Charlie, I did actually know that, I was just lazy with my reply. I'll check the solenoid for actual function this evening. Hondaman has a tutorial on how to rebuild the solenoid, so if it doesn't seem to be working properly I can try a rebuild first before I replace it.
