Filled the tank and went for  ride.  Headed out to the freeway so I could experience my new exhaust at 70 mph.  Rode out about 30 miles, turned around and headed back.  The bike was running great.  About 10 miles later the front tire blew at 70 mph.

Here's some pics of what she looks like now.

I'm a little scraped up, but not to bad.  My helmet and the Vetter fairing saved me.  Anyone got a Vetter fairing they want to get rid of?

Oh CRAP MJ!! Glad ur OK!
Can I have a motorcycle when I get old enough?
If you take care of it.
What do you have to do?
Lot’s of things. You’ve been watching me.
Will you show me all of them?
Sure.
Is it hard?
Not if you have the right attitudes. It’s having the right attitudes that’s hard.

Holy cow!  Glad you're not hurt too bad.  Were you wearing gloves as well?
Any idea why the tire blew?

550 Battery too low to e-start after getting gas. Glad to have a kick starter.
Pretty sure I just got a bad battery off the shelf. All of the charging numbers added up but it just won't hold.
Looks like I'll have to charge it up one more time and take it to the auto store so they can load test it and hopefully exchange it for a good one.

Not today, but over the weekend. Rode the little 400F from Pittsburgh to Mid-Ohio and Back.

The riding group.

All interstate travel, and one bad mishap. My 70's Nylon sprocket gave up the ghost 10 minutes from Mid-Ohio. luckily, we were only 10 minutes from one of the largest swap meets in the country. 3rd booth I came to sold me a 360 sprocket for a whopping $10.

The poor Tuff-One:

During surgery:

After replacing the sprocket, I put another 5-600 miles on her with no problems.

One huge benefit of the sprocket death, I took the opportunity while sitting in the parking lot to check my oil. Dangerously low. Oil added, additional crisis averted.

Took a short ride on my K3 this afternoon. Man it is amazing how NOT cold blooded a SOHC 4 is when the temperature is 102 degrees! LOL

I don't have a motorcycle, sold it ('85 Yamaha Venture Royale).  Haven't had a CB750 for over 40 years.

Thanks guys, I'm doing OK.  A bit of road rash on the back and stiffening up a little today.  Had a field trip this morning, High School Cheer Leaders to Alma Collage.  About 103 miles one way.  It was a drop only, so we didn't have to wait and bring them back.  Round trip with loading and unloading, plus stopping for breakfast on the way back made for almost a 6 hour trip.  There were two buses, so I had company and I had no troubles at all.

I did have some time to think about what I was going to do about the bikes.  My first thought was to strip the front end off the 73 and put it on the 72.  After more thought, I realized that I had no idea of how badly damaged the 72 was.  With the forks twisted like that, maybe there is some frame damage, a twisted head tube or something like that.  So I'm going to put the 73 back together (the clutch and the throttle cable I pulled off and put on the 72).  I'll put the carbs and front brakes from the 72 on the 73 and should have a runner.

I originally bought the 73 so I had something to ride while I restored the 72.  I might just as well do exactly that.  The 72 just needs a lot more restoration now.

When I got home from the trip, I proceeded to pull off the fairing and luggage so I could assess the damage better.  I also was worried about the engine and wanted to see if it still ran.  The terminals of my ammeter were shorted to ground, killed the battery and blew the fuse.  My #1 plug cap was shattered so I put an old one on. Found that the ignition switch took a hit as well and had to solder my red wire back on.
With a battery charger hooked up and using the kick starter, she fired right up and purred like a kitten.

Here's some pics.

Got most of the way through checking the 550 charging system.  No luck so far...

Polished my front brake caliper assembly using a 350 grit sanding sponge produced by 3M.  Installed new caliper seal, bled her out and road tested her.  Three hours start to finish.  It now looks as good as it performs.  No more drag.

Changed the air filter and repositioned ground to make frankens cover fit better.
