Web, is it possible the tank started leaking due to a change in the tank pressure? Maybe it had a vacuum and air was introduced? Or maybe the tank started warming up( sitting in sun) and built up pressure in tank.  Just thinking out loud.

Nah, that's not it. No sun, no temperature difference of any kind. Also there should be a vent, right?
The bike was sitting in a closed garage for half a day before I turned the fuel tap OFF, removed the tank, sat it down right next to the bike and that was it.
Half an hour later it started gushing out the tap outlet, with the tap set to OFF. Turning the tap back and forth didn't work, so I quickly turned it upright.

After cleaning up the mess (the house still smells like fuel today) I put the tank back on the next morning, and sure enough dry as a bone. I don't get it. The tap just spontaneously stopped working, somehow.

... and I will stop trusting fuel tank taps from now on, & always plug the outlet.

Did you set your tank on blocks or was the weight of the tank resting on the petcock handle? Enough weight can squish the o-ring to one side and make the valve leak but it is fine once the weight is removed.

That might have been a factor. The tank was indeed resting on the petcock. Not on its handle but still.

Got it off the bench and on the driveway for the first time as a motorcycle. Feeling pretty happy. ;D

I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Tire bending for next season!
My blue K6 will get this wheel back on later on this winter. (Its old tire visible in the background still on bike).
Pumped new tube/tire twice with 5 BAR, now 3 BAR.

I used same baby powder inside tire my mother used on us kids when really small. ;) Found when cleaning out their house before selling it.
Easier to wrap the tire on rim after rich lubrication with real tire lube on both sides of tire as well as rim.
I forgot to remove the tube valve before inserting it, had to waste some time taking it out so I could guide valve out thru the rim hole with allen tool from outside when tire was bent and pressing out the valve.

Convenient with an extra rear wheel. I have a new rear tire for the wheel on bike too. New front tire will go on when tank is off.
Dual front brakes take some extra sweat, tears and bad words.

Hopefully no pinched tube this time. I have tubes for mistakes but I prefer to use them with future tires.

Still 3 BAR after 24 hours :) :) Reduced to 2.5 BAR. Running presure is 2.1-2.4

Just for fun I will post this since I own it for awhile as I paid for it  :D  Sunday a west coast friend of mine called me in a panic and said a 1973 Kaw 900 Z1 had popped up on Facebook and pleaded with me to go check it out and buy it. So in the early evening an appointment was made and I grabbed a sack full of cash and took off to check it out. Backstory is it is an original owner and was last on the road in 1986. Owner has been dead for quite a long time and a son in law who is now divorced from the daughter had started taking it apart for whatever reason at some time. This was on a farm about 35 miles from my house and was in a real barn which is kind of cool but had been moved to the garage for viewing.Offers were already flying in from Australia, Holland and other parts of the USA. I left a list of the parts I could see like rear brake rods etc. that were still missing for them to look for.The widow is still looking for the title. The engine is seized probably from leaving the ports open as the pipes and carbs are off. Speedo shows a little over 32,000 miles.Dirt and dust was included at no extra charge. Has an original receipt from the dealership as well as the warranty paperwork and plastic card with owners manual tucked under the fender in its tray.To give an idea as to value I had to fork over $5,000 for it. This was bought in March of 1973 and I also took a picture of a picture of the original owner who was on a Northern Michigan trip with a pal. Other bike maybe a CB550/500 ? The lesson is you never know where these things are still hiding at !!

Hey Nick. Like a lot of them there is a fine crack across the two holes where the oil cooler could mount and along the side of the thin gusset plate. I need to take and post a picture of that so people looking at one know where to look.
I kind of hate to turn it over to the friend but he found it. Guess I have to live on Facebook and CL 24/7 to find these or get that secret app that gives alerts  ;) but I would need to actually get a smart phone first  ;D

Eric, you are a good friend. Unfortunately the past few yrs everything has become instantaneous for listings of bikes. Listed, bought within 15mins. My Z1, I bought unseen in person. Posted only a few minutes and I offered full price and pick up the next day as is was a 9 hour drive each way.

Got the bastard thing re-registered, had hassles as the vmax is on limited club rego and our club has recently joined the permit scheme so I wanted to change it over to our club
I was a member of the BSA club ( for rego reasons only though I did have a C11 which I recently moved on - thanks Terry ) but changing clubs is a right PITA, but luckily found an intelligent and helpful VicRoads monkey and got it sorted.
$79 and all good for 45 days riding in a year ( though it's taken so long to sort I've only got 10 months to use the days )
I'm a happy boy , I can ride again and it's going to nudge 40 deg C here tomorrow so a good day for a ride, even if it is just to stinkin' work
Also put new stickers on the shocks, a mate of mine is a sign writer and made me some stickers that say "Oh#$%*" in the Ohlins font and colours. I've got fake Ohlins on and rather than pretend they are the real thing I wanted something obviously stupid ( and yes they are fake, but still better than just about everything I've had before )
Anyway, a good day, except I found that my favourite summer jacket don't fit no more....
You fat bastard I hear you about.....and my reply is...... errrrr, yes
Time to give up the cider and pizza diet maybe
i blame Terry

Good job Spotty, and if you need any more log books sing out, I've got plenty of spares. Just photocopy the permit and stick it in a fresh logbook, and you're good for another 45 days, zimples!

I coerced the prospective buyer of my K2 into buying another Harley Sportster for me, which will be the "part trade" on the K2. It's a 2007 Japanese import 1200 with EFI, so it'll be good to have all 3 generations of Sportster, a 1973 "Iron Head", a 1994 early Evo carb XLH1200, and a latest generation "Rubber Mount" EFI 1200 with the "Buell" heads.

I better finish up the "Swamp Rat" so I can complete the deal......... ;D

That is magnificent Eric, the 1973 "Jaffa" Z1 is the epitome of cool, and over here a running survivor like that one will be soon, is worth $20K USD all day. You are a good friend to not tell your buddy that you're keeping it, but I know that you guys have lots of guns over there, so that's probably reason enough! ;D

Doobie, how do you like the modern Z1? Do you have the flat spot issue? When I was looking into buying one I read the first yr ones were.a tad bit restricted which caused a flat spot

After seeing Terry's nifty crane scale, I had to get one! ;D Cost $25 and change with tax delivered; reminds me of the cheap USB bore scopes someone here found a few years ago..
Anyway, I got to test it today on the Seeley. The Harbor Freight engine hoist wasn't really a good fit, as the legs were too wide, but it worked with some finagling. :)

Stared at it for about 10 minutes. Tempted to start tearing into it. Hook up a battery. See if the electrics even work. Managed to control myself (really want to get the garage fully organised first) and only wiped the dirt off the carb ID. Found 649A, consistent with engine numbers and airbox cover.

Good job Scott! Geez that's a fair bit lighter than a stock CB750 mate, I'll have to weigh the Swamp Rat now to see how much! ;D
