Replaced starter switch, and watched a mechanic get the bike to roar to life after sitting for a year. Now if I can just figure out how to unf@ck the previous owners handiwork...

Guy sold these carbs to me for 35 bucks. All I needed was the emulsion tubes.

So cleaning and reinstall, will try to start today.

...good deal!

Thanks fire, will only run with a hot wire running str8 to the coils.

And kslrr, I noticed that threads were still showing, so I got a wrench and tightened, learned my lesson.

Man she sounds mean, but, a lot of work still needed.

took a ride for a couple of hours, then did the oil and filter, just out of interest i use old hard drive magnets on the forward end of the cartridge, they trap extra ferrous crud, might prolong the life of the filter?i still do it regularly before its due anyway.
i mustave bumped the camera mode switch,,a bit pink photos?

wipe of the fur and good to go again on a new filter

Yesterday I worked on replacing the old super stretched out chain.  I figured while I was in there I'd clean things up a bit.  First I drained the oil and took out what was once the oil filter.  Pulled the shifter plate, the front sprocket cover, the front sprocket, and chain guard.  Everything got a good soak in degreaser as I cleaned up 33 years of chain wax and grease out of the front sprocket's house.  That was not fun.
After everything was clean, I sprayed a coat or two of black on the chain guard.  Buttoned everything up, new oil, filter and o rings, shifter plate gasket, new chain etc. Did my best to adjust the chain as I have never done this before.  In the middle of all this I also put a few coats of Rustoleum Trim and Bumper Black on the air box.

I didn't have time to get everything back together, as we had dinner reservations and I was a filthy mess.  I'll post some pics when it's done.

They looks the same in the pics I have been posting.  They are just much cleaner looking in person.  Ha you missed the pics?  I'll post em again for ya.

I went with the black behind the clear diamond instead of the silver.  It looks better at different angles.

I trailered mine to the "The Shop" in Bay View, Wi for some carb tuning after reassembling the motor. Started this cb550K0 build January 11 and will have it on the street in a week.

Nice ride through the neighborhood for about an hour, oil change, then took the clutch cover off to shim the springs.

Found out that my reserve works. I was only 2 blocks from the gas station, but it was nice to not have to push it that far.

Put on another 100+ miles Sunday. Beautiful ride down Lake Shore Drive from beginning to end, then kept following 41 to indiana before cutting back to Illinois to head back to my sister's where I have been working on the bike. Ran like a champ and averaged 46mpg so far. But, blew out a 34 year old fork seal on the left tube. Those get ordered today so I can replace them before the relay hits Chicago Saturday.

Put a rectifier from the 750 stash on the 550, then adjusted the voltage regulator to proper output.  I may ride this one on the street soon.  Took the 750 out for a sunshine ride...yeah spring!!!

I stared at it with the fascination of young man seeing his girlfriend's tits for the first time..
Also, I  sanded down the stock headlight housing to get it ready for paint.

Got mine running with a wire running from the battery to the coils to get spark. Runs strong but, sucked down 2 gallons of gas while adjusting the idle.

Decided to try a spin in the yard, pulled the clutch in, shifted the lever into first, (heard and felt the gears slightly grind), released the clutch lever and .......and......nothing. Damn thing would not move.

So, now its digging into the clutch time.

But, at least I know it runs......................good thing, so complete tear down will start soon.

I wiped off the wet spots, jumped on her back, squeezed tight with one hand, twisted with the other, and flipped that little knob up and down with my big toe....

In the mornings I've been giving it a couple of kicks, choke on and ignition off, to prime the carbs for starting.  Well, this morning I do this and the bike moves forward on me, collapsed  the kickstand and down we went. :o  It was still in gear! ::)  Note to self: always turn ignition switch on to verify the bike is in neutral before kicking!  Just prime with kill switch off.

I made a stensil and gave my new  750 k3 wings.  I hated the color, but somehow rattlecan wings and a nice "750" (a blown up version of the 750 from the original badge)  on the side covers make me smile.  I probably just dropped the value of the bike by $100 but i'm gonna ride it all summer and restore it next winter... and i just hate it when bikes have one color paint with bondo where there should be badges. :)

Despite a 50% chance of Thunderstorms forecasted today, i rode the little 350/4 to work today.  Parked it in the 'unused half' of a Honda GL1800 parking spot, under the overhang, just in case it rained.

Came out around 10am to recheck that I had turned off the fuel petcock, and what did I find, but a small group of other employees from the building, all huddled around my bike, talking about "the good old days when they had one of them...."

Its really kind of cool to find out you have such a noteworthy little bike.   :)  It made me wish I had brought out my ignition key.
