Saw a shooting today
« on: July 14, 2010, 02:07:27 PM »
I was on the way home from a bit of a ride (30ish miles) when I was nearing the end of my journey. This chaps were blocking traffic at a stop light, and then some guy ran up and unloaded 2 shots at these dudes. I was in front at the light, maybe 4-5ft away from the shooter. I dont think anyone got hit, but I certainly didnt wait to find out, I hit the accelorator, after the shots went off and I was clear.

This fact brings me to my next statement, I need to leave Chicago and the Midwest in general. I hate the heat, I hate the cold, and on hot days like this riding isn't even all that fun, considering I am going 60mph and all i feel is hot wind against my arms and coming into my helmet. I feel that what happened today is just another reason I need to leave.

I tend to like living in the country.  Sure you don't have some of the conveniences, but folks are friendlier, there are little to no crowds, and things are safer, as country folk tend to be armed, and defend their property and "stuff".....others KNOW this, and so it keeps honest people...honest.  Those that don't want to be honest end up in the State Pen.

I'd recommend the move....but make sure where you are going has work that you can get.  The Southwest is hot and the Illegals have turned the place sour.  Northwest is a great palce to live, but the winters can be cold.  Deep south, land is cheap, work can be found, but it is VERY humid, and again, illegals have invaded there as well.

When I lived in Minot, North Dakota, we had a saying up there, "20 below keeps the riff-raff out".

Never understood the appeal of Chicago personally.

Glad to hear you didn't become the victim of a stray bullet. :-\

....Haul Ass!.....

I'm sure this will feed the fight about gun laws in Chicago (not that laws stop CRIMINALS!)

It is very sad, the world has gone crazy. I live in Columbia SC. a moderate sized southern town. I picked up the paper the other day and there were three murders on the front page. A '91 year old man was beaten to death. A guy shot his "friend" and drug him behind a truck for 11 miles. A man allowed his 3 year old son to die from no medical attention and disposed of the body.....

I want to move too!!!

I agree about getting out of Chicago; the thugs in charge are pillaging the city and the entire state is suffering.

About leaving the midwest, though... I wouldn't. ;)

Guys, guys, guys.  You are all taking this thing the wrong way.

We are told that it was a very hot day.  Obviously the guy just wanted to show his gun to the other gentlemen and the excessive heat made it go off, twice.

Simple misunderstanding.

The Northwest is where I am headed considering that their winters are not as bad as here.  I looked up unemployment rates and Chicago and Portland are about the same, so its not like I wouldnt be heading somewhere where there is absolutely no work.

Yeah I know people sometimes make me sick. I agree with the gun law statement, no criminal goes out and waits the week to get approved to buy a gun, they go buy one illegally. In fact the gun this guy had, I couldn't even tell what it was. It looked like a revolver but he had it cover partially.

Gordon..  agreed.... Like you I'm glad he's fine....

Interesting thoughts on places to live though....

I've lived in most parts of the country except the Northeast....    Reno Nevada was actually a very cool place to live..., but they have white stuff on the ground in the Winter....  So Samsonite's required.... ( my theory is that if you see white stuff you pack your Samsonite and Move till you don't )

I love the South... but it's Freaking HUMID and can be wicked hot....  mostly we have three bad weeks both winter and summer.... after that it's an interesting place to live...   Work,  for people who want it.... not a lot of High tech... but Some... and frankly the people are simply kind to each other....   ( you move into Downtown anywhere you get what you get )

Anywhere in the Smokey's rocks.... again watch out for Samsonite....

Texas is Fun.... just outside Dallas would be a Hoot....

If we could get rid of the Californian's I'd love to go back there... but it's just to crowded....  Weather Rocks ....

Hmmmm

It's teetering on the edge, but not quite a "gun thread" yet.  We need one of the anti-gun folks to chime in with their scripted gun thread posts before it topples over for good.

Good point on the "Keith Turk" forum call.  Someone did mention the word "law", so this may be considered a political post now. ::)

Yeah im fine just a little pissed that it happened pretty close to my house. My bike is parked in my gangway every night which means it would be kind of easy for someone to steal. I have 5 dogs so I hope if anything ever happens that their barking will scare them away.

haha yeah, I did an adopt a gang program, sort of like big brother big sister program. It keeps them off the street doing their illegal activity in a safer neighbor hood.

On a more serious note, its just a walkway from the front of my apartment to the alley way.

Why not move to the burbs? We have easier access to better motorcycle roads, but the city is still close enough to visit!

Depends...

If by "in style" you mean all of the worst fashion choices of all sub-cultures of the western hemisphere of the past four decades lumped into one generation, then yes, that kid is in style.
