1982 Suzuki GS1100ES
« on: October 28, 2010, 06:40:18 PM »
I have been looking for a winter project for some time now. Went and looked at a couple, but finally pulled the trigger today
on a 1982 Suzuki 1100E.

Also had to buy a new camera today as my old one was hooped.
It may take me a while to figure out how to pull photos ;)

Suffice it to say, the bike is in amazing shape for having been ignored for 6 years. Bought it for beer money 8)

I'm happy to have something in the shop that needs attention :)

BoooYa! I have an '83 GS 1100E.

Awesome bike. Pulls like a freight train. Corners like #$%* (at least compared to my CB500) but an absolute beast, nonetheless.

Check the stator. It's probably shot.

On the list of awesome, leave us not forget the shaft drive.  Gotta love that!

Nope.  Like this one.  Chain drive, not shaft.

Well, you can't have everything.  At least you got it in red.  That adds 15mph top speed, right?

Just a winter project detour is all........... ;)  I needed something to keep me busy.

Hasn't been run in 6 years. Put away by owner. He says the clutch, brakes, chain was all done just before storage.
Who the #$%* can believe what they say in the driveway though.

Gas tank inside is spotless. I'll start digging away tomorrow.

P.S. $500.00 cdn

AND a fuel guage....

AND an oil temp guage....

AND a gear position indicator.....

AND self canceling turn signals......

I just thought it looked pretty ;D  Who knew?

Actually I had an 82 Yamaha Seca 900 at one point and this bike seems to fall into the same Sport/Tour design from that period.

Yeah, that's primarily what I use mine for. 300+ mile days, no problem.

The early 80's are pretty fuzzy for me, but as I recall, the 1100 series was Suzuki's flagship. The "E" series had all the bells & whistles they could come up with.

It's really kind of a dual personality machine: under about 5k rpms its quite calm & sedate, but whack the throttle up around 7 or 8k and HOLD THE #$%* ON!

Gobs of torque, too. It really is like a freight train. There is nothing subtle about them.  8)

A sixth gear would have really helped, tho.

You #$%*.

82 1100e was my last bike before the 750. I paid $1150 USD for mine in 2000. You got an awesome deal running or not. Wish I still had it and it's not as much of a pig as you might think  ;D

+1 on a sixth gear. That would have made it incredible and I might never have gotten rid of it. Probably shouldn't have in retrospect  ::)

What pipes are on that thing?

Seaweb, spend some time over at the GSResources board. Not quite as active as this one, but also not quite as full of "personalities" (reminds me of how this board used to be a couple of years ago). Some great help. Read "the Stator Papers."

Also, Shop Manual:
