deer kill
« on: October 31, 2010, 08:25:56 PM »
On the way to the racetrack sat AM a switching engine train spooked a 10 point buck deer, it bolted toward my truck and 28' trailer, it fell on the pavement and slammed into the side of the race car trailer, There are small dents down the side and a big dent in the aluminum bottom trim. Worst part was his head and antlers went into the wheelwell, under the axle 5 points broke off one antler and punctured an 8 ply trailer tire! I was shocked at the impact caused by 150-160 lbs animal. I could only think, if I was on the bike, WoW.

Happened recently in Washington  state.

Victoria man killed in Washington state motorcycle crash
timescolonist.com October 31, 2010   A 67-year-old Victoria man is dead after his motorcycle collided with a deer while he was travelling in Washington state.

The Washington State Patrol said Alfred H. Picard was about 72 kilometres south of Forks on Highway 101 Friday afternoon when a deer ran into the roadway. Picard was thrown from his Yamaha Roadstar.

Police responded about 4:50 p.m.

“CPR was started right away on scene before the medics got there,” said Trooper Todd Bartolac. He said he did not know whether it was a passing motorist or another bystander who was able to start first-aid.

Despite the efforts to save him, Picard was declared dead at the scene. Police said he was wearing a helmet, and was determined to have been going about 70 miles per hour in a 60 mph zone.

Bartolac said deer have been an issue on roads in the coastal area he covers. Forks is located in the northwest corner of the state.

“This time of year we’ve actually had a lot of different collisions with deer, just migrating and coming down for food. We actually had one of our troopers on a patrol bike get hit by a deer also.”

I know 101 south of Forks.
Goes along the coast--perfectly straight for several miles.
He was probably going faster than 70.

perfectly straight and lots of heavily wooded areas.
surprised the first one he saw, he hit.
after seeing a few of them, you would think he would slow down a little.

We did that ride in August. Not much room at the road sides for warning or avoidance. Beautiful road to travel on though. Didn't see any deer, must have been the deer whistles on my bike that kept them away.

101 south of Forks? It could've been 800lb elk? There are lots of them are they are huge. I guess the outcome would be the same :-\

Deer worry me more than anything else on a bike. They're completely unpredictable when you cross paths with them, and they come up suddenly no matter how fast you're going. Only thing I can think to do is to watch the sides of the road really carefully where I've seen them cross before and try to see them before they get to the road.

I used to like deer. Now I see them as the massively stupid meat bags they are. My pop's hit two in the last 5 years bolting out of the bushes. He describes it much like this but not as funny  :D

I wonder about Moose, they may feel your trespassing and try and take you out as opposed to running in front of you.

 ah, I love it.

I hit a deer a couple of years ago at 70mph. It wasn't real fun, but I killed the farkin deer.  ;D
The worst thing is, I was on crutches and couldn't run away from these fellows.
I kept my glasses on so no one would recognize me.

Someone has been shooting them dead and cut the head off one in an upscale neighbourhood here in Victoria. They're more like vermin here.  Cliff.

So, the strategy is to lie to people you are asking for help?

I think I'll be busy going for a ride.

Good luck!

'tis the season. The big meatbags go into rut and they don't care about roads, cars, nothin' if they scent a doe in heat. :P

11:15 am, Bright sunlight. Smoke from leaf burning. He ran because of the freight train moving through his bed-down area, it is a rarely used siding and they would not be used to the noise and vibrations. good luck.
 The tire is ruined also.
