Hey... I didn't notice it mentioned... What kind of rearsets are you using? They look pretty sporty.

I'm happy with them but their supply of manuals is pretty confusing. They sent me ones for my 78 which look like the ones for the 77 in the manual. Oh well.

Just curious....are you saying that the Raask rearsets for the 77 are different than the 78?  I sort of figured they would be the same since the frames are the same, right?  And if you don't mind, where did you buy them?  Thanks!

Yep, something seems a bit funny with the model info chart.  It shows "CB750 K7 four" and then right below it "KZ750 four '78-on".  I'm assuming the "KZ" is a misprint and there is no way the picture of the '78-on would fit the K8.  So I'd say you got the correct ones.

Finally good some results with the sanding:



Took it down by hand to 80 grit to remove all the scratches from the orbital at 120. Worked my way up to 3000 grit. It looks so much better in person, it has a nice reflection to it, I'm really happy with this.

Now I'm considering doing the same with the hubs but I'm wondering if it's better to just drop it off at the polisher and save myself some time.
The hubs are aluminum correct? Will it act different than this sprocket?

the chain doesn't chip the paint off?

I considered it but want to keep black as minimal as possible

I'm almost certain its original. Check the before and after photos from page 1

I've done a couple of rebuilds and I tend to replace both sprockets and chain so you start with an all new final drive to go along with the "new bike".
They do have a life expectancy.

 As I indicated, I have no idea if yours were worn or not?

Well havent got the bike together yet, but I masked off the teeth.

good point. I forgot I actually worked on the sprocket first bc if I messed up I could just get another one.

I did have trouble locating new sprockets that matched this one though. And yes I'm definitely getting a new chain.

Ok so I just went to the bike shop near me to pick up my day to day bike (they were attempting to reupholster the seat) and talked to the guy about the sprocket. He said that I don't necessarily need to get a new one. He also told me to bring it by so he can check it out. Obviously though I'll be getting a new chain. I just put so much work into the sprocket that getting a new one is annoying.

So far this bike doesnt look like a budget build so if you are going to replace that sprocket i suggest going with these guys. As you seem to like the custom look.

You can anodize or the should polish up nice as they are aluminum and real light. I have one on my 550.

Oh cool. You're right on this not being a budget project, so getting a new one isn't a problem. I'll match the specs on the current one but I'm actually at a loss when it comes to ordering a new chain, do you know what I should look for when ordering?

As far a chain you just need to get the right length and kind. I think the 750 is a 630 style chain. somebody will chime in.

630 I'm pretty sure is right, I was talking about it with the guy today. But length is what gets me. I want to learn how to determine what length to get.

That's the cool thing about a project like this is that you have to tackle all of these obstacles you have zero idea about. Last week I didn't know a thing about tires, now I have a pretty good grasp on what all the numbers mean and what to look for. Very fun.

If you keep the stock gear ratio then the stock chain length is what you need. It is in the manual. You have downloaded the manual right? Via ebay it looks like 88 links but you could always do a swap to the 530 chain
