Ha ha, beautiful work as always mate, and I love the Dexter theme! ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

A couple of days ago I said something wrong here. A sensible person would just stop posting at night when he's tired, but I'm not that person. I posted pictures of the gas tank and oil tank and said they were taken before sanding and polishing. I should have said they were taken right after shooting the red paint. The paint doesn't get sanded and polished, but the clear that goes on top of it does. The order I followed was primer, paint, clear, sanding, graphics, more clear, and THEN sanding and polishing.

After shooting color and clear on the fairing, I copied the fairing flashes onto masking paper and used it to decide on placement. Then I laid out the flashes, put a tape hinge in the middle, sprayed soapy water on the fairing, peeled off the paper backing a half at a time, and smoothed the flashes down with a squeegee and a microfiber cloth. The laser-cut graphics came from Lord Moonpie, and they're thin, vivid, and easy to work with. It's worth taking your time planning exactly where you want them, because if you try to lift them back up and move them around, they'll stretch out of shape. Once they're on, they're really sharp looking!

More shortly.

Since I'm running a speedometer, I wanted to contain the cable. Takashi made the fender brackets, and I made a cable guide, drilled and inserted it into the bracket, had it welded in place, filed the weld and did a little body work, and painted the piece.

Also in this pic, you can see the satin charcoal gray paint on the inside of the fairing. I thought that would be a nice contrast with the silver, the red and the black frame and cables.

Kickstand altered and powder coated. Pipes ceramic coated satin black by Engineered Applications in Los Angeles. Pegs and levers are a combination of parts from CBR900RR and CBR600RR.

Here's the polished gas tank, the seat, and the pipes. OK, and a few years of dust on the frame and oil cooler.

The seat was done in Italian leather over memory foam by The Upholstery Zone in Simi Valley, California.

Here's the fender, calipers, and fairing in place. The fork lowers were sandblasted and powder coated clear satin.

Well, that's it for tonight. Again: thanks for looking.

Hot damn, Vincent.  She's a beauty.  I love the classic livery.  I see you went with a slighly lower placement of the flash graphics on the fairing , but it balances out the absence of a green or yellow race number oval.  This looks amazing.

I've seen some unbelievable builds over the years on this site, all to be commended, but this bike takes it to a new level.  Your attention to detail is staggering.  Such an amazing bike.  You, sir, are an artist.

Thanks so much for the kind words.

Here are just a couple of pics for tonight. The tank and seat are Milano Red, a Honda car color. I looked at a million reds, but that one seemed the most appropriate. Wow, that sounds so businesslike. Actually, I think it's a beautiful red, and it really lights up when the sun hits it. The silver is a generic silver base, because my requests for the paint store were that I wanted a cool rather than warm silver, and I wanted very small flakes because I didn't want it to be too sparkly.

The seat and tank after sanding and polishing.

The two colors being introduced to each other.

Good night, all.

OK, This is where we are right now.

There are still some things to sort out. I'm having trouble keeping the battery up, even though there's a new stator, battery, coils, electronic ignition, and solid state regulator/rectifier. Must be something in the wiring, and I have only myself to blame. Also, the sound is race bike fabulous, but I don't want to be "that guy," waking up the neighbors and alerting nearby police every time I take a ride, so I'll have to figure out some baffles to take it down a notch. The rear brake cable is too long, so that will have to change, and I still have carb fiddling to do. But overall, I'm pleased. I'll be showing the bike at the AHRMA show at Willow Springs Raceway this Saturday, and it was accepted into The Quail Motorcycle Gathering in Carmel on May 5. If any of you are around, drop by and say hello.

Thanks for looking.

Hi Vincent,

I'll be at Willow this Saturday with my buddy Jay (Lossa Engineering).  I'll look for you and the bike.  Will you be firing it up to hear the harmonious 4-4s?

A very deserving participant at The Quail.  Congrats.  I had my 550F at the final Legend of the Motorcycle (which became The Quail) and it was such an honor to be on the same field with bikes like yours..and even cooler to be on the podium with it.

Hijack away, nvr2old, I'm always happy to look at someone's cool bike! Anything can happen, and it'd be a trip to be on the podium, but I'll be elated just have my bike on the lawn with all the amazing bikes that show up at The Quail.

Don, I'm not happy with the way the bike runs. When I first started it, it fired right up, idled, and revved cleanly. I don't know what has changed since then, but now it sounds ragged. Also, I have - maybe related - an electrical problem. My first ride was one mile long, and then I had a dead battery. Since everything is new, I don't know where to look. And working every day, I won't have a chance to poke around with it before Saturday. I'm hoping I can talk to someone at Willow who knows more about electrical system troubleshooting than me. Actually, sometimes I think that everyone knows more about it than me.

Thanks for the positive comments about the bike. I'm looking forward to making it run right and then taking it on all of my favorite rides. I've joked about putting an Aleve dispenser on the tank and popping one of them every few miles to ease my weight-bearing arms and folded up legs, but I know I'll have a big smile on my face the whole time.

I do have a short video of my friend Will revving the bike in my garage. How do I upload it? See, there's that tech thing again.

Vincent,
There should be MANY people at Corsa Motoclassica with some electrical prowess.  Many of them will be lured in by the looks of your bike, so don't be shy to ask.  My buddy Jay is racing but I'm sure he could offer some troubleshooting tips.

If your battery died that quickly, it likely is also negatively effecting the ignition, hence the running “ragged”.

Fully charge the battery overnight. Then deal with troubleshooting the electrical after the show.  :)

I spent the day at Willow Springs Raceway for Corsa Motoclassica.  The highlight of the day (which included seeing all kinds of race bikes being raced on a track) was meeting Vincent.  The next highlight was seeing his bike in person.  Like many of you, I have ogled this bike as it has been built.  But let me level with you, the photos do not convey what a spectacular bike Vincent has created.  His passion and exacting attention to detail are a wonder.  There was a constant crowd around his bike -- at least every time I passed by the bike show portion of the event.  So many beautiful details.  If you have the chance to meet Vincent, do so.  He's so passionate about his work on this bike and such a nice guy.  I know the the attendees and judges at The Quail (next weekend) are going to love this bike.

As far as I'm concerned, this bike should have taken the trophy for Best in Show today.

Re: CR750 replica for the street

I'm going to have to try to hire SOHC4 Cafe Racer Fan as my publicist! A good guy, knowledgeable motorcyclist, and tireless supporter. He was at Willow Springs bright and early and stayed for the whole thing, brought over Jay LaRossa and Dustin Kott to say hello and look over the bike, and wanted to hear about things that I wanted to talk about. Thanks, Don. It was nice spending time with you.

The show at Willow was a good time, but it made me really think about what I was doing and what I want out of my bikes. I didn't build the Honda for shows, I built it because I always thought the CR750 was the most beautiful race bike, and that nothing would be cooler than to have one and actually ride it around on the street. The response of people here on the forum as well as local friends made me think about trying to put it in shows. It was certainly gratifying to see people looking at the bike, and it was fun to answer questions and point out details. What I should have done was remember the lesson of my one previous motorcycle show experience. I have a 1970 Triumph Bonneville that I redid from the ground up, and although it's mostly stock, I did make a few changes. All the nuts and bolts are polished stainless, I replaced the chrome rims with shouldered aluminum Akront rims and stainless spokes, had a leather seat made to match the stock vinyl seat, polished the rocker boxes, and substituted a different red for the stock Astral Red. Everyone loved the bike, and I decided to put it into a British bike show. Guess what the judges didn't like. The rims, the seat, the rocker boxes, and the paint. Those things had "ruined" the bike for them. I had a lot of emotional investment in the bike, and I felt really bad, so I thought "That's it, no more shows." I went back to just riding and enjoying the bike, and getting thumbs up and smiles from people on the road. Somehow I wasn't thinking about that when I decided to put the Honda in the show at Willow. The bike attracted attention from the minute I pulled up. People watched me unload it from my pickup, and followed me as I wheeled it over to the show area. At the sign-in table, the guy put it in the Competition class. I thought that was weird, since there were real race bikes there, in the form of a couple of Yoshimura Yamahas. I didn't object, because I didn't really know what class it belonged in. It's not actually a competition bike, but it's not a regular street bike either. During the day they apparently changed it to Cafe Race Street class. What the heck, their guess is as good as mine, and it's their show anyway. When they gave out the awards, it came in second to an Ariel Square Four bobber. In Cafe Race Street. A bobber. So now I'm thinking again "That's it, no more shows." I don't want to be a whiny baby, but I guess this stuff brings out the whiny baby in me. I showed up not even thinking about an award, but then I was disappointed to place second. After a bobber. In Cafe Race Street. Maybe if I were a bigger, better person? I've already signed all the forms and agreed to be in The Quail, but I'll remind myself not to think about anything except being there on the lawn with all the interesting bikes. I hope it works. And then I'll just enjoy riding the bike with a big smile on my face.

Ilegitimus non carborundum
I probably butchered that but don't let the ba$tards wear you down. What matters is how your work rewards you. The fact that most of us here on the forum are duly impressed and recognize your superb skill is icing on the cake. Your Triumph is a thing of beauty as well

I'm kind of a guy that likes the stock looking bikes but the replica is a thing of beauty.
It's been a real treat to watch it unfold.
Keep on keepin' on!
