Its going to be silver, not sure if it will be exactly like my old bike. I'm painting myself, and to have the pin striping done is above my budget. A friend has a car graphic printer, so I may go with that.
I have to fix a few holes, brazing..........yikes

Pod or not to Pod that is the question.
Reading this forum I have found there two kinds of people in this forum, pod and non-pod people.
Rebuilding my 1976 CB750 I was bound and determined to install pods just like my 750 I had in 1974.
I wanted to bring the bike back to the old days and live on the edge by installing pods. I just couldn’t do it.  I’m getting close to retirement, thinking more about health, money, and watching grand kids grow up. I was too afraid the pods would lead me to a wild and crazy life, driving 5-10 mph over speed limit, getting a super size burger combo and most of all paying retail.
So I guess while putting the bike together I realized that I liked holding to traditional attitudes and values and cautious about change or innovation. So with the stock filter it goes.

But I’ll have to admit the other day I didn’t come to a complete stop and a stop sign, just  the rebel  in me.

Pod guy                                                                         non - Pod guy

Wheelies standing on the seat                                                        wheelies sitting on seat
Takes his bike to track day                                                              Rides his bike to track day
Buys all the carb jets he can find                                                      Buys new grips
Gets several opinions and advice on forums                                      Has cup of coffee and enjoys thread

Mingles with Non-Podders                                                                  Mingles with Podders
Know Pods, know peace                                                                     No Pods, know peace
Loves his pods                                                                                   Loves his stock filter
Wins bike shows in his class                                                             Wins bike shows in his class
Lives to ride, rides to live                                                                    Rides to live, lives to ride

The discussion on pods is,  your for them or not, nothing in between. Like a political thing. I say what ever floats your boat

When I first got my 750, I had no internet access.  Found some k&n pods cheap at a swap meet.   Spent several weeks swapping mainjets trying to get my bike to run half decent.  Gave up and put the airbox back on.  A couple years later I bought another 750 with some old falling apart UNI's.  I didn't have another airbox so I plopped those same k&n's on there.  This bike ran pretty darn good with 'em.  It would just warm up kinda slow.  When I checked the jets, they were the same as my bike with the airbox. :o :o :-\   I also have a cb350 twin that doesn't seem to give two #$%*s whether it has pods or airbox.
If it works good, it looks good...

That helmet looks great. A friend of mine bought one last month and I was able to try it on. Let's just say it may be next on my list as well.

Also, watching this build.  :D

Here's what I had to deal with. At on time someone took off the plate that holds the badges, in doing so rip the spot welds out and left holes. They filled with i guess was gas resistance putty that you could see oozing inside the tank, then covered with a ton of Bondo. I filled the holes by brazing them, all 7 of them. Squirted soapy water on the welds then slightly pressurized the tank, good thing cause there were a few pin holes were i welded. So here are pics after brazing and after body work primed.
Fixing this tank was like trying to make ice cream out of horse s*#t.
I am far from being a good body repair and paint guy, the bike is going to be a nice everyday driver, so good enough for me. I do have a lot of respect for body and paint guys, Its hard to get a gas tank looking perfect.

Good work on the tank. How did you get it smooth again? Is there some bondo on that tank?

Yes most definitely, there are much better body fillers out there than what I used, Bondo seems to be the least favorite.
I filled as much as I could with brazing rod.
I would have preferred to have an orig tank so to put on the badges. This tank was just too hack up.
An expert could could make it all stock and pretty.

Got the paint on, had more runs then my last trip to Mexico.
Color sanded with 600 until runs almost gone, the finished with 1500, 2000, 3000.
I bought a dual-action buffer from harbor freight used Meguiars swirl remover 2.0.
Looks good from far but far from good,  :-[

Nice looking color!

After all the sanding and buffing, why still not pleased with it?

I made some goofs when painting, it has different shades of silver from too thin in some areas and too thick in others.
I didn't notice all the small imperfection with primer, you can see them  with gloss paint.
All in all I'm happy with it, It's not going to be a show bike. Saved a bunch of money.
I got some decals on the way.
I had my CB500 painted professionally which isn't a fair comparison.
Anyway, a good thing this weekend its going on the bike and I'll be on the road!!!!!!!!!!!

Like the color as well. Are you going to shoot clear on it?

I bought a K5 a couple years back, had a horrid looking rattle can paint job with orange peel galore. We block sanded it, shot two coats of clear, and buffed it and it looked great! Consider it...

Opps guess I didn't mention I clear coated, that is actually what ran, I did put enough coats so i would be able to color sand.
I used Preval paint sprayer, It works good on small projects but gas tanks are to large of a surface to get even.
Next tank Ill invest in a gun.

Shes alive, rode around the block, I must say it has a lot more punch than my 500.

I did find one problem, the neutral light goes dimmer when in gear, normal when in neutral.
Ill be investigating tomorrow.

Still waiting for tank decals.

I am no electrical expert but sounds like either the switch is faulty or not quite seated right. There is also a chance that something is not earthed right but thats a slim chance.

By the way looks nice love the color.  Are you leaving the tank bare or are dome decals on the way.

Thanks for the compliments.
I was going to duplicate the pic of my old bike, changed my mind. The tank will be like an early model, side covers similar.
Yeah i suspect a switch problem also. ill let you know.
Also the clutch pull is a lot easier than my 500, both have new cables.

I did a ohm check on the neutral switch,
"0" ohm in neutral and 162 ohm in gear.
So the switch is bad.
Might be a stupid question but ...I going to loose crankcase oil with the neutral switch out, correct.
