Pulled the ignition switch out for a quick repair.  The key had gotten almost impossible to turn, now all is well just gotta put it back in.

Out in the shed going over the wiring on the 550 this arvo. Should have gotten some insulation tape, eletrolitic(sp) grease and contact cleaner last week. Seems the old reg is charging a bit better due to cleaning contacts but something fishy going on with the rh indicator and light switch in the rh switch block. Out of the hell I tried a DOHC CB750 reg/rect but instant battery drain. On looking closer at the it looks like it had fried sometime in its past so I'll cut the wires for reuse and biff the rest. Luckily no damage to the loom this time.

Couldn't figure out why she wouldn't fire. Fuel and plenty of spark. Finally the penny dropped. Took a while though. I'd connected the points wires around the wrong way last week. So back to square one.  I'm really enjoying the tinkering and I'm sure Ronda is enjoying the fondling I'm giving her too. No in any hurry to get her out on the road though. Good things take time.

Was rolling no front caliper for a bit. Found my solution on a parts bike I picked up.

Made a final determination, the OEM rims have got to go... too much damage due to rust and pitting!

The build just got more expensive  >:(

Looks good Picasoo!

I found a stand to hold my XL250S frame while I installed the tapered bearing races.  :)

I keep a variety of different sized PVC fittings for installing bearings, seals etc.
Handy and cheap!

Got the ignition timing DEAD on. It was sooooo out of whack I'm surprised it even ran.

Still need to unscrew my carbs.

Last weekend I got the oil passages on the lifters elongated to improve oil flow to the lifter bearings. I also added oil holes to the cam towers like is described in Hondaman's book. I got the pistons back on and put the cylinders in place, only to find out that I missed 4 small gaskets under the cylinders. In my defense, they were not included in my "complete" gasket kit though. Better to figure that stuff out now I guess, so the cylinders will be coming back off as soon as the new gaskets come in. Made the rear fender mold a bit stronger so my giant hands won't break it when I go to make the actual fiberglass fender. Mounted the handle bar controls and the headlight and I think it's all coming together nicely. Yes it was a good weekend of work!

Rode it around a bit with no rotor in the alternator.  Runs great on a fresh battery.  I brought my air mix screws all in 1/2 turn, the throttle is way more linear now :)  I put on some poorly painted black side covers just to see what they look like black.

Loaded Goldie into the back of a truck and waved goodbye, she's off to a new owner in Sydney who fell in love with her and will look after her. As much as I miss her I like the extra room I've got in my garage, and the extra bucks in my bank account so I can rebuild my K1 hotrod engine and continue with the K6 resto. Goodbye Goldie! ;D

I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Ha ha, thanks mate, I'm sure he will, I was lucky that it was p155ing with rain as we loaded it onto the truck, that way the driver didn't notice the tears rolling down my cheeks as I looked at it for the last time..........  :'(

Replaced my old stock shocks with some new ones from Ikon. :D.   They measure the same length when the bike in on the center stand (13 inches), but the bike feels like it is higher now; they must not compress as much.  Much firmer ride and not as  bouncy.

At last, someone actually replacing the craptapulous OEM shocks with a DECENT set of shocks. Not Redwings, not YSS, not Old Bike Barn specials, but REAL shocks that actually work! Well done mate, I don't know you personally, but I know that you are an intelligent man. Enjoy those excellent Aussie shocks! (no bias here, I like Hagons too, but Ikons, with their adjustable damping, are better.............) Cheers, Terry. ;D
