A good reminder. As much as I hate to see it, it's probably something I should see every spring..

That guy needs to learn how to ride, i didn't see the front of that bike dip at all whilst braking which leads me to believe he was trying to either stop only using the rear or was too scared to use the brakes in a corner , that is a recipe for disaster. He really wasn't going that fast.....Take the time to learn how to use your brakes guys, accidents like that should never happen.....

Kinda hard to tell but it sounded like he pulled the clutch just as he was at the lead guys tail, I think he just freaked out, instead of downshifting and braking hard, he thought he couldn't do it or didn't know what to do, and so he didn't. No power going into the turn means a straight line to the ditch, following too close? not paying attention? the guys behind him probably slowed down real fast and the people not paying attention behind them did the same thing. It's easy to fixate on the person in front of you and forget someone's behind you...and it's a hard choice when you're cruising along enjoying the beautiful day and all of a sudden notice a bunch of traffic stopped dead in front of you...this ditch, that ditch or slam the pile?
My hurt bones are cryin for those folks, hope everyone's recovering well.

Agree with the braking comments, like he just took it into the rock as part of the Sunday ride.

The be careful thread came around and was posted about a year ago after a forum guy wrecked or saw a wreck.

Once I was hearing something that sounded like a revving camaro in a driveway as I walked out the house gate. Kind of strange that it's not a motorsports neighborhood, paid little attention until I heard a crash. That was enough to send me to the nearest phone without seeing anything. I walked out and told the 911 operator the first thing I saw as wal=king out. There is  a guy writhing on the sidewalk, but sorry , I still don't know what the F#$% happened.  Dad followed me out, saw the guy, shaded him with a blanket, but still hadn't noticed the Kawi cruiser cold- forged into the front of the neighbor's truck.

Oh and there was a couple other stories, but work on the pics for this one first.

Looks like serious inexperience created this mishap. He downshifted before the corner, it seems like he pulled the clutch in instead of hitting the brake like you guys said.

They didn't appear to be going that fast into the turn, I guess he just freaked out when he came up on the front guy's tail.

how on earth did he manage to crash ,  as mick said he needs to learn how to ride . its people like this that keep  insurance high and give us all a bad name .  there is no excuse these days if you cant ride there are plenty of good track schools that can help you out .

As a volunteer fireman in a rural area I can say that in the last five years we see an increased incidence of crazy get-offs. In a lot of cases it's a "returning to my youth" type deal on the first ride out in the country.

I'll keep my mouth shut on a potential cause of this one, but as mentioned it does nothing to help the industry.

I hate to armchair quarterback that but I would never make a "he's hurt bad" comment around anyone that wiped out.  My wife made a comment about "hoping I didn't sever an artery" once when I accidently stabbed my wrist with my car keys (long story...).  I fainted and had to be taken to the hospital by ambulance.  Mostly just because she freaked me out.  Fortunately, I only ended up with stitches (and ridicule at the hospital).

I don't think thats armchair quarterbacking, that is a good lesson. Making comments like that (help me out EMTs) I would think could send someone into shock. I would think they would be better off with keeping them calm and telling them help is on the way.

First nice weekend here in Michigan. Two riders die in two separate rear end accidents on Highland Road. Both accidents sound like rider error.

It's been 5 months since I've been on my CB. I'll be taking it slow and easy.

 2011 riding season off to a somber start     :( :( :( :( :(

I was rear-ended almost like that 20 years ago.  Fortunately I came away better than he did.
